Most furniture design starts with a question: How do people sit? Aleks Forystek Studio started with a completely different one. What happens when a heavy sphere presses into a structural loop? The answer, it turns out, is a chair. But not just any chair. It’s Dooal, and it might be the most conceptually satisfying piece of furniture I’ve seen this year.

The premise sounds almost too simple. A sphere meets a loop. The loop yields under the weight, compressing and curving into a form that becomes, all at once, a backrest, a seat, a leg rest, and a rocking base. One gesture, one cause-and-effect sequence, and suddenly you have a fully resolved object. The audacity of that economy is hard not to admire.

I’ll admit my first instinct when I saw the images was purely aesthetic. The black and white photography does everything right. The curves catch light in a way that makes the chair look more like a cast sculpture than a functional object, and the close-up shots reveal a fine-lined ribbed texture that layers real depth onto an already commanding silhouette. Shot in near-darkness, Dooal looks cinematic. It has the kind of presence that makes you stop mid-scroll and just sit with it for a moment.

But the longer I looked, the more the concept started doing something to me. Forystek’s Chicago-land studio describes its work as committed to “destabilizing the familiar,” and that phrase lands differently once you understand the logic behind Dooal. The chair is familiar enough, a seat you can rock in, a shape the body immediately recognizes. Yet the process that created it is almost foreign to how we typically think about furniture. No separate components engineered together. No piece-by-piece assembly of form and function. Just a single physical interaction, preserved.

That’s a philosophical statement as much as a design one. The studio’s whole methodology centers on finding the latent potential within ordinary objects, pushing past the surface of what something is to explore what it could become when a single variable changes. With Dooal, that variable is weight. Pressure. The simple, undeniable force of a sphere doing exactly what gravity asks it to do.

What makes this feel significant right now is the context we’re sitting in. We live in an era of maximal complexity, where products get layered with features, materials compete for attention, and design often signals effort rather than intelligence. Dooal does the opposite. It argues that constraint is where creativity actually lives. That stripping a design down to one decisive action can produce something richer and more resolved than a process built on a dozen competing decisions.

And it’s not just theoretical. The rocking chair is one of the oldest, most human pieces of furniture we have. It exists in farmhouse porches and modernist living rooms with equal ease. It’s comfort distilled into motion. The fact that Dooal arrives at that form through a logic of compression rather than craft tradition feels both subversive and strangely inevitable. Like the chair was always there, waiting to be discovered rather than designed.

That sphere at the base of the loop is easy to overlook in the photographs. It’s small, nestled low, nearly swallowed by shadow. But without it, none of this exists. It’s the cause the entire object is an effect of, and the fact that it remains visible in the final form is a choice that rewards people who look closely. That kind of embedded storytelling, where the origin of an object is literally written into its body, is rare in furniture design. It elevates Dooal from chair to argument.

Aleks Forystek Studio is not a household name yet. But Dooal is the kind of work that earns attention quietly. Not because it’s loud, but because it’s precise. Because it asks a stubborn, specific question and then answers it completely. Whether you care about objects for their beauty, their ideas, or the story behind them, this chair has all three. And it got there with one moment of contact.

Forget Tracking Kids After School, This Cute Device Lets Them Check In

Working parents of school-age children face a particular kind of worry during the hours between the end of the school day and the end of the workday. Phone calls get missed, text messages go unread, and the ones that do get through usually carry just enough information to confirm a child made it home. What they rarely carry is any sense of how the child is actually doing, and that gap tends to get filled with parental anxiety rather than reassurance.

Keylo is a conceptual companion device designed around that specific gap. Rather than giving children another screen to manage or another app to navigate, it offers a single, tactile interaction: a tap that lets them express how they’re feeling. No typing, no calling, no notification chain. The child touches the device, cycles through a color to represent their emotional state, and the parent’s app receives it.

The system consists of three physical parts. The main companion unit sits on a home dock, usually somewhere a child passes when they get home. A smaller key fob clips to a backpack and travels with the child throughout the day. Both are made from soft matte silicone and deliberately avoid any screen or complex interface, giving the object a quality that’s closer to a familiar household item than a piece of consumer electronics.

The four emotional states Keylo recognizes are kept intentionally broad. A soft orange glow indicates the child feels relaxed; bright yellow signals something more playful or energetic; a neutral white tone signals a preference for quiet or personal space; and a calm blue light carries a specific message from child to parent: I’m thinking of you. Each one is simple enough for a young child to understand and expressive enough to actually mean something when it arrives on a parent’s phone.

That arrival is handled by the companion app, which mirrors the same color language as the physical device. The distinction the project draws between this and conventional parental monitoring is deliberate. Rather than showing parents a location, a screen time report, or a camera feed, the app delivers a single emotional moment. A notification that says a child is feeling calm and playful carries a different quality of information than a location ping, and it asks for a different kind of response.

The device is designed to work without any input from the child beyond that single tap. There are no prompts to answer, no questions to read, and no follow-up required. For a child who has just walked in the door after school, the low threshold is significant; the gesture stays small enough that it doesn’t feel like a chore, which is probably the main reason most family communication apps get abandoned within a few weeks of being set up.

What Keylo explores through its design is how much emotional information can be conveyed through the simplest possible interaction. A color chosen by a child carries less data than a voice call but far more than no contact at all, and it arrives without interrupting anyone’s afternoon in the way a ringing phone does. The project makes a case for the idea that the volume of communication matters less than whether it happens at all, and on terms that feel natural to the person sending it.

The $599 AI Guitar That Finally Makes Playing Easy

At some point in their life, almost everyone has picked up a guitar, struggled with a C chord for ten minutes, and quietly put it back down. The fingertip pain. The out-of-tune strings. The YouTube tutorial that somehow assumes you already know what a fret is. Learning guitar has always had a steep and slightly humiliating entry curve, and most of us just gave up. The TemPolor Melo-D thinks that’s a problem worth solving, and the design it came up with is genuinely hard to ignore.

Designed by inDare Design Strategy Limited, the Melo-D is billed as the world’s first generative AI guitar, and even that description barely scratches the surface of what it actually is. On the outside, it looks like a guitar that a product designer and a tech enthusiast co-parented together. The body is sleek, the finish is pearl white, and it has a foldable build that makes it compact enough to take almost anywhere. But the real story is what happens when you turn it on.

The neck is embedded with LED lights that illuminate exactly which notes to press, removing the guesswork for beginners entirely. A built-in 2.4″ LCD flip screen on the body handles chord guidance and ambient visuals without you ever needing to prop up a phone nearby. These feel like small details, but they represent a real design philosophy: the instrument itself should carry the full experience. You shouldn’t need a separate ecosystem of apps and accessories just to get started.

What makes the Melo-D genuinely interesting is the AI engine running underneath all of it. The guitar operates in three modes: solo, sing-along, and AI creation. In AI creation mode, you can hum a melody and the guitar transcribes it into a guitar solo. You can type a text prompt and it generates a song. Upload an audio file and it converts the music into playable tabs or chord charts. It even generates personalized backing tracks using emotional tags, so the sound starts to feel like yours rather than something borrowed from a practice app.

The “AI everything” wave has made it easy to be skeptical every time a product slaps the word generative onto its marketing. But the Melo-D doesn’t read as a gimmick dressed up in smart-instrument clothing. The six-string silicone system allows for real, note-by-note playing, which means it isn’t just a toy approximating the feel of music. It’s an actual instrument with training wheels you can choose to remove. The goal isn’t to replace the skill of playing guitar. It’s to lower the barrier enough that more people actually get through the door.

inDare’s design work here deserves its own mention. The studio, known for thoughtful human-centered industrial design, brought a lot of restraint to a product that could have easily become overcrowded with features. The foldable form factor, the integrated flip screen, and the silicone strings all feel like deliberate decisions, not afterthoughts. The Melo-D has also earned recognition at the iF Design Awards, which makes sense, because from a design standpoint it reads as a product with a clear and confident point of view rather than a collection of specs looking for a shell to live in.

At $599, it’s available for pre-order now with an expected ship date in September 2026. For a piece of hardware this layered, that number asks you to take it seriously, which feels appropriate for what it’s trying to do.

Learning guitar used to mean a real commitment: years of practice, a teacher, calluses, patience, and a certain willingness to sound terrible for a while. The Melo-D isn’t trying to skip all of that, but it is offering a more honest entry point for people who actually want to try. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who has quietly given up on the guitar more than once, it meets you where you are. And sometimes, that’s exactly the invitation you need to actually show up.

This 60g Titanium Pen Doubles as a Pocket Repair Station With a Detachable Flashlight and 3-Slot Toolbox

The humble pen is one of the most perfectly designed objects in everyday human history. It’s a simple, durable, pocket-friendly cylinder that most of us carry without a second thought, right up until the moment we actually need it. Its form is so familiar that we rarely stop to question its potential as anything other than a writing instrument. But what if the pen’s silhouette was actually the perfect chassis for something far more ambitious? What if its main job wasn’t to record problems, but to solve them?

TiMate, the Redwood City-based EDC team behind the BoltLite and CoreLite, spent three design generations building toward exactly this: a Grade 5 titanium pen organized around a four-step repair workflow of illuminating, marking, cutting, and repairing. The body is CNC-machined, IPX-8 waterproof, and houses a detachable flashlight, a three-slot magnetic toolbox, a dual-tip marking system, and a utility blade, all in a 60-gram, 5.31-inch frame. The VeroLite also writes. That’s almost a punchline. But genuinely, it writes well.

The flashlight module runs a Cree XPG4 LED at a neutral 5000K color temperature with 70+ CRI, which is the difference between reading a wire’s color accurately and just guessing. Three modes cover the range: 9 lumens for close inspection, 150 lumens for repairs and outdoor use, and a strobe for emergencies. IPX-8 waterproof, it charges over USB-C in 40 minutes, running 12 hours on low from a 100mAh lithium cell. The module detaches completely from the pen body via a magnetic joint rated at 3.8 kilograms, redesigned after users flagged the earlier version as too loose. Clip it standalone to a carabiner, rotate the dual-direction clip to aim the beam, or separate it so both hands are free for the repair.

Previous TiMate pens dedicated this midsection to a fixed blade; the VeroLite converts it into a three-slot magnetic platform for standard 4mm screwdriver bits. The compartment is sealed, waterproof, and ships with a Y3, PH2, and PZ1 set. Any standard 4mm bit fits, so your existing collection is already compatible. The clip end functions as a pry tool for paint cans, stuck lids, and loose nails. The tungsten carbide tip doubles as an automotive side-window breaker, so the same tool scribing tile in the morning can shatter a car window later. TiMate calls it a pocket repair station, and the label earns itself.

The body is CNC-machined Grade 5 titanium, 134.9mm long and 14.6mm wide, available in Titanium Gray (sandblasted matte) and Tactical Black (PVD-coated, scratch-resistant). At 60 grams, it’s 15% lighter than the CoreLite, a change driven directly by user feedback about hand fatigue. A recessed contour at the grip zone gives your fingers a natural landing spot, so it feels like a tool rather than a tube. Both finishes share the same machining process, so structural quality is identical. A leather sleeve option swaps the clip for a cleaner desk-carry profile.

The VeroLite retails at $119 and is currently available at a discounted $85 for a single unit. Add-ons include a 20-piece alloy bit set, extra graphite and tungsten tips, replacement blades, a stainless steel necklace for neck carry, and a leather pouch. A Leatherman Skeletool costs around $90 with seven tools, but lacks an integrated light, a marking system, or modular storage. TiMate’s argument is simple discipline: fewer tools, all of which you’ll actually use, organized around a clear workflow. Bang & Olufsen’s New Speaker Concept Is a Ritual, Not a Device

Most speakers are designed to disappear. They sit on a shelf, blend into a bookcase, or hide in a cabinet, quietly doing their job until you need them and then fading back into the background. Mårten Malmnäs, a graduate from the Umeå Institute of Design, designed something that pushes back against all of that.

The Beosound Tableau is a wall-mounted audio object developed in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen. Malmnäs calls it “a fireplace for music,” an instrument not just for listening, but for living. The moment I read that, I had to stop. Because I’ve never heard a speaker described that way before, and suddenly, I couldn’t think of a more fitting comparison.

Think about what a fireplace actually does. Yes, it produces heat, but that’s almost beside the point. A fireplace creates presence. It becomes the thing a room organizes itself around. People pull their chairs toward it, conversations happen because of it, and its absence is genuinely felt. That’s a completely different design brief than “fits on your desk” or “connects to your phone.”

Malmnäs started the project with a design probe, a research method that explores the relationships people have with their homes, and from that came a set of experiments around values and behaviors. Eight experimental directions emerged from the ideation phase, spanning different input and output formats. Three of those directions clearly answered the design responsibilities he’d set for the project, and their shared qualities pointed toward one resolved object.

Here’s where it gets interesting. The original concept for the Tableau was screen-based, but a method called Wizard of Oz testing, where a human simulates the system to observe how people actually interact with it, pushed the design somewhere more honest. The interaction model shifted from screens to navigation by sound. And the principle that came out of it became the foundation of the whole concept: the most honest interface for a music object is music itself.

That’s a provocative idea. We’ve spent years layering more and more visual UI on top of audio experiences. Every streaming service competes on the complexity of its recommendation algorithm, the visual polish of its playlist covers, the grid of album art. Malmnäs argued the opposite, that sound should speak for sound. The result is the Sonic Token, a physical object that mediates between the listener and the Tableau. Tactile, intentional, and completely different from scrolling a touchscreen.

The Tableau is positioned as a focal thing for the home. An object to gather around and tend to. That language is deliberate, and it’s also a little radical. “Tending” to an audio object implies care and attention, a relationship rather than a transaction. You don’t tend to a Bluetooth speaker. You don’t gather around an app.

Bang & Olufsen has always occupied a rare space in the audio world, where design and sound hold equal weight, and where a product can belong in a design museum and still deliver extraordinary sound. But even by B&O’s standards, the Tableau concept asks a genuinely new question: what if the speaker were the focal point of the room, rather than just a feature of it?

There are fair questions about how a concept like this survives beyond a graduate show. The hands-on, material-driven process Malmnäs used, with 1:1 mock-ups and rigorous testing of the Sonic Token’s form and function, suggests this isn’t a vague idea dressed up in renders. It was built and tested as a real object. Whether it eventually reaches production or stays as a collaborative concept between a student designer and one of the world’s most revered audio brands is another matter.

But the value of the Beosound Tableau isn’t only in whether it ships. It’s in the question it refuses to let go of: why have we settled for speakers that ask nothing of us? The alternative, a speaker that earns its place on the wall, makes music feel like a gathering, and treats sound like something worth being present for, sounds like exactly what the living room has been missing.

Storyteller’s new GXV Wild is built for luxury off-grid camping without compromise

Storyteller Overland added Global Expedition Vehicles (GXV) under its umbrella in 2022. The tale for the two adventure camper and overland rig manufacturers, respectively, has been around about on the same lines. Continuing in a combined form factor now, the new 2027 GXV Wild is introduced to upscale the idea of overland living from Storyteller’s lens.

The adventure truck is based on the Ram 3500 single-cab chassis. That leaves the Wild catering to only a couple on the road. It can, we will learn later how, accommodate up to four people at camp. But what’s actually fascinating about the truck, beyond the overlanding compatibility and off-grid preparedness, is how the interior is designed to permit a congenial harmony between the inside and outside.

Built on the Ram chassis, which draws power from a 6.4L HEMI V8 engine delivering 375 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, you already have a capable machine. To keep it performing at its best, Storyteller has kept it lightweight but tweaked it to add an AEV suspension kit with a 3-in lift and forged-aluminum wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. The camper part is made using laminated insulated fiberglass walls and floor. The roof uses insulated panels, and windows feature dual panes (again for better insulation), ensuring year-round operability.

With the modifications to the chassis, the rig – measuring 23 feet long and 11.3 feet high – has a payload capacity of 1,000 lbs and a 14,000-lb GVWR. The Stroyteller GXV Wild can also tow up to 10,000 lb. if you have additional cargo to cargo, in the FlipOut Deck. Some of the truck campers this size we have seen compromise with bathroom space, but that’s the difference with the Wild. It has a dedicated bathroom, next to the alcove. It features a cassette toilet, sink, and a shower that gets water from the 189 L fresh tank and also has a 76 L gray water tank onboard.

Opposite the bathroom, you have the kitchen with a portable induction cooker, a stainless steel sink, and a flip-up counter space extension. 116-L Vitrifrigo fridge/freezer, microwave and other appliances are aligned next to the convertible four-seat dinette with leather seating. When you want a little more space, the FlipOut Deck drops down and opens up your camp. On the far side is the main bed in the cabover loft. Together with the convertible dinette bed, you can have a sleeping space for four people in the Wild.

GXV Wild maintains off-grid convenience with the 400W of solar panels (expandable up to 800W), 12-kWh electrical system, and a 4,500W inverter. For all-season convenience, the insulated interior is furnished with a 13.5K-BTU rooftop air conditioner and a 14K-BTU hydronic heating system. Storyteller Overland is planning to sell the 2027 GXV Wild starting at $299,898. What do you think?

Stanley doesn’t make gym equipment… but this stylish kettlebell proves it should

Fill a Stanley tumbler with a yogurt-based smoothie from bottom to top and you actually end up getting an arm workout. A 40oz Stanley cup can weigh close to 4lbs or upwards of 1.5 kilograms if filled to the brim with something dense like a smoothie or a thick latte. Jane Morelli just decided that if she was gonna give her arms a workout, why simultaneously rely on ugly looking kettlebells? Morelli superimposed Stanley’s design language onto kettlebells and the result looks just gorgeous.

Every gym equipment I’ve used has looked boringly functional. The kettlebells at my gym come in bright colors, but that’s just a color-code so you know the difference between a lighter and a heavier kettlebell even if the number on it wears off (it almost always does). Morelli’s design merely bridges two worlds together, and I won’t lie – the results look like the most seamless collab ever imagined. My only gripe is, I wish these kettlebells were actually tumblers too!

Haute gym equipment might not be a category but these kettlebells definitely make a case for it. Each one is styled with chic curves, and a color palette I’d only expect from companies like Hermès or Stanley. Subtle pastel shades, punctuated by just one hot pink color for the yoga-moms who need their gym equipment to be as flashy as their gym outfits. Each kettlebell has a lacquer-like sheen on it, along with the Stanley logo emblazoned on the front, larger than the weight units below it because that’s what matters more. The style statement.

I get that I can sound a little ironic, but I’m all for brand crossovers. (The only time I really object is when Tesla does stuff like manufacturing vodka or whistles because they seem to be obsessed with side quests and not really making any cars). This one piques my fancy because Stanley isn’t just a social statement, it’s perfect for fitness-freaks too who love chugging protein shakes from their 30-40oz cups, or sharing Strava stats superimposed against their Stanley cups just to paint a picture of how much ‘aura’ they have.

Morelli’s done a pretty remarkable job of simply yet effectively distilling Stanley’s brand language onto a piece of gym equipment, without necessarily caricaturing the Stanley cup’s silhouette. The kettlebells have a separate, distinct character, and the dual-band colors on each individual kettlebell represents a palette that feels distinctly high-fashion yet accessible. Quite like the company’s big, beautiful, nearly indestructible tumblers.

Your Phone and Laptop Stand Could Be Made From Recycled Coffee Grounds

Every morning, millions of people brew their coffee, toss the grounds, and move on. It’s such a routine act of disposal that few of us stop to think about where all that spent coffee actually goes. MOFT apparently did think about it, and the result is one of the more genuinely interesting design stories to come out of the tech accessories space in recent memory.

The MOFT MOVAS-E Coffee Collection is a new line of accessories built from a bio-based leather crafted from recycled coffee grounds. MOFT combined spent coffee grounds with waterborne bio-based polyurethane to create what they’re calling a new generation of bio-based leather. The material replaces both conventional leather and traditional synthetic alternatives, which makes the origin story feel less like a marketing angle and more like an actual shift in how the brand approaches materials.

MOFT has already built a strong reputation for thoughtful material choices. Their MOVAS vegan leather line has been a staple in the premium accessories space for a while now, known for that soft, slightly textured finish that feels surprisingly luxurious on a phone MagSafe stand. The MOVAS-E Coffee Collection takes that established foundation and adds a genuine layer of purpose to it, pushing the material story well beyond aesthetics and into something more intentional.

The collection includes products like a laptop Carry Sleeve, all finished in warm, coffee-toned colorways that look like they were pulled straight from a specialty café mood board. The tones are earthy and rich without veering into something overly minimal or clinical. If you’ve ever wished your tech accessories matched the aesthetic of a beautifully lit coffee shop corner, MOFT seems to have designed this one with exactly that feeling in mind. The tagline for the collection is “Brewed for Flow,” and it’s hard to argue with that framing.

The packaging is also part of the story. MOFT went with a frosted, minimalist design they describe as food-safe, durable, and fully recyclable. It’s the kind of packaging decision that often goes unnoticed by most buyers, but it signals that the sustainability angle here isn’t just surface-level. When a brand puts the same thought into the box as the product inside, that’s usually a sign the commitment runs deeper than a trend cycle.

I’ll be honest: the sustainable materials conversation in tech accessories can feel exhausting. Every other brand is slapping the word “eco” on something and calling it a revolution. MOFT’s approach feels different, not because they’ve reinvented the wheel, but because the product doesn’t sacrifice anything to get there. The MOVAS-E Coffee Bio-Leather still delivers the same premium tactile quality that made their original MOVAS line popular. It’s stain-resistant, smooth, and has that matte finish that photographs well without ever looking cheap. The material carries its origins gracefully.

The MOVAS-E Coffee Collection doesn’t answer everything, but it’s a compelling and well-designed start.

Gage Roads Just Turned a Surfboard Into a Beer Tap

The last debate you expected to find at the heart of a design story was a surfing one, but here we are. For years, the surf community has been at odds over something surprisingly technical: should surfboards be measured in volume, using litres? It sounds like a niche argument, but for shapers and surfers, the stakes are genuinely real. Leave it to an Australian brewery to turn that argument into one of the most interesting design objects of the year.

Gage Roads Brew Co. partnered with legendary board shaper Chris Garrett of Phantom Surfboards to create the Beerboard, a custom single-fin surfboard built with a sealed internal chamber capable of holding 10 litres of Gage Roads Summer Ale Single Fin. Yes, it actually surfs. And yes, it actually pours beer. That’s the whole glorious point.

The concept itself is brilliantly simple, but the execution was anything but. The engineering challenge of making a surfboard capable of storing pressurised beer without leaking, or worse, imploding mid-session, required serious work. Garrett’s decades of experience as a shaper came into play here in ways that go well beyond surface aesthetics. He’s been crafting boards since 1979, and Phantom Surfboards has been his life’s work since 1984. Designing the Beerboard meant rethinking the interior construction entirely, embedding a food-safe chamber that could handle pressurisation while preserving the board’s hydrodynamics. The build process reportedly came with a few explosions along the way, which is either alarming or just the most Australian development story imaginable.

The board draws inspiration from the iconic Greenough Spoon, a shape dating back to the 1960s. Choosing that reference wasn’t accidental. The Spoon was itself a radical rethink of what a surfboard could be, and the Beerboard follows directly in that spirit. It doesn’t look like a novelty item. It looks like a real board, clean and purposeful, and that restraint is exactly where the design succeeds. A gimmick slapped together for a social media moment would have felt cheap. This doesn’t feel cheap at all.

Once the board was finished, Gage Roads called in Olympic surfing medalist and part-owner Jack Robinson alongside legendary free surfer Brendan “Margo” Margieson for sea trials. The fact that professional surfers actually took it into the ocean, rode it, and then presumably poured a cold one from it afterward is a key part of why the Beerboard registers as more than a marketing stunt. It works, both as a surfboard and as a beer dispenser. That functional integrity is what elevates the whole project.

Is the Beerboard a practical product? Not remotely. You’re not about to wax this thing down and paddle out for your morning session while worrying about keeping your lager cold. But practicality is the wrong lens here entirely. The most interesting design objects rarely exist to solve a purely utilitarian problem. They exist to reframe one. The Beerboard reframes the entire surfboard volume debate by making it physical and playful, by literally filling a surfboard with the very unit of measurement causing all the fuss. It’s design as commentary, and it genuinely lands.

It also matters who made this. Chris Garrett isn’t an ad agency prop designer. He’s a craftsman with nearly 50 years in the industry, someone whose boards have been trusted by some of the world’s top surfers across decades. Bringing his expertise to a project like this gives the Beerboard a credibility it wouldn’t have had otherwise. It’s the difference between a concept and a creation.

I’ve seen plenty of branded design collaborations that felt hollow or performative, where the “design” was really just a logo slapped on a limited-edition container. The Beerboard isn’t that. It required genuine engineering, real craft expertise, and the confidence to commit fully to a ridiculous idea until it became a remarkable one. That, I think, is what good design actually looks like. Sometimes it just happens to come with a tap.

During normal use, HealingFit TWS functions as a premium pair of true wireless earbuds with Bluetooth 6.0, Hybrid ANC, and five tunable sound modes built on MobiFren’s own MSTS sound tuning system. The shift into wellness mode happens when you attach the Magnetic TES Link, a cable that snaps magnetically onto both earbuds. There’s no separate gadget involved, and no new category of hardware to carry.

TES, or Transcranial Electrical Stimulation, is a non-invasive approach widely studied in neuroscience. That three-mode framework reads differently from the perspective of a digital health platform. Platforms like Samsung Health, Apple Health, Google Health, and Fitbit have become genuinely capable at detecting sleep quality, stress levels, recovery readiness, and daily activity. They generate scores, flag patterns, and surface recommendations. What they don’t typically offer is a connected, device-level way to act on those signals in the moment they appear.

HealingFit TWS addresses that with an open Bluetooth LE interface that developers and platform teams can connect to without a licensing fee or a proprietary SDK. The technical entry point is UUID 0xBE00, and documentation is publicly available through mobifrenglobal.com. The intent is clear: the earbud becomes the intervention hardware, while the app or platform provides the health context that determines when and which session a user might benefit from.

Think about what that could look like in practice. A sleep app detecting elevated pre-bed stress could suggest a Sleep session. A recovery platform flagging low readiness after a demanding training week could prompt a Healing routine. A focus tool that spots declining concentration before a deadline could surface the Study mode. In each case, the platform has done its analysis. HealingFit TWS handles what comes after.

The core architecture places a TES-generating circuit inside one earbud, with electrodes on the front of each earbud that contact the ear canal, and a TES Link cable that connects both earbuds. Detached, it functions as flagship-grade wireless earbuds; connected, it transforms into a wellness device designed to support sleep, stress relief, focus, and memory.

What makes the TES architecture appealing to hardware teams isn’t just the open API. There are also registered patents in Korea and Japan, as well as a published application in Europe. FCC certification was granted on July 1, 2026.

Heo founded MobiFren in February 2002, originally as a contract developer for Samsung Electronics feature phones. The company started building its own Bluetooth audio products in 2005 and brought its first Bluetooth earphones to market in 2006. MobiFren has maintained an ongoing relationship with Samsung through smartphone software verification work ever since. That two-decade grounding in Bluetooth audio is what gives HealingFit TWS its engineering footing.

The choice to build this platform on earbuds specifically is, in that context, a deliberate one. Earbuds are already the personal technology closest to the human body for most of the waking day. They’re phone-paired, habitually worn, and typically owned by the same people most likely to be using a health app. Embedding TES therapy into a device people already carry daily removes most of the adoption barrier entirely.

The hardware reflects that audio-first foundation. Alongside the TES system, HealingFit TWS delivers up to 6.5 hours of playback and up to 4.5 hours in TES mode, with Hybrid ANC, three microphones per side, and wear detection for auto-pause when an earbud is removed. Both earbuds and the Magnetic TES Link cable dock in a cylindrical charging case finished in anodized aluminum, designed to carry without fuss.

What Heo is ultimately proposing is a platform category that doesn’t quite have a name yet. His comparison is to how true wireless earbuds, from AirPods to Galaxy Buds, turned personal audio into a mainstream daily habit. The more compelling case might be for the health platforms themselves. What they don’t yet widely offer is a hardware path from that detection to user-controlled action. HealingFit TWS was built to be exactly that path, and it’s open to anyone willing to test it.

That’s a bold bet, and the category he’s describing doesn’t fully exist yet. The Floating House Built From Strangers’ Wishes

Most houses start with a blueprint. Jisoo Yoo’s Dream House started with a question: how do the dreams and desires we carry shape the landscape of the world we inhabit? The answer, it turns out, is a floating structure made of clothing.

Yoo, a Seoul-born artist who lives and works in France, has been quietly building one of the more compelling bodies of work in contemporary art, one that orbits around the domestic, the ephemeral, and the barely-visible structures that hold our lives together. Dream House, her latest installation presented at (F)ESTIVALES at Les Tanneries, Centre d’art contemporain, is exactly the kind of project that makes you stop and genuinely reconsider what a home actually is.

Here’s how it works. Participants are invited to contribute a garment, something personal, something worn, and mark it with handwritten texts and drawings. These pieces of clothing then become the literal building blocks of the structure, each one a personal archive, each one a load-bearing element. The result is a house that floats, literally and conceptually, held aloft not by concrete or steel, but by the private wishes of strangers.

That’s a beautiful idea, and I mean that without a trace of irony. We spend so much time thinking about homes in terms of square footage, property value, and interior aesthetics that we rarely stop to ask what a home is actually made of. Yoo forces the question. Her installation suggests that the answer has less to do with materials and more to do with desire, with the accumulated weight of what people want, need, and imagine for themselves and for each other.

Art that treats the domestic as a lens for examining social and cultural forces is nothing new. But Yoo brings something specific to it. Born in Seoul and trained in France, she operates between two very different cultural frameworks around the idea of home, and her practice reflects that quietly felt tension. Her works often feature spaces that feel familiar but refuse to stay solid. Rooms that waver. Houses that float. Structures that appear and then dissolve. It’s a recurring language across her portfolio, and with Dream House, it feels most fully realized.

Dream House is not trying to comfort you. It’s trying to make you notice something. The garments contributed by participants carry real personal weight: literal handwriting, actual drawings, the residue of real lives. And yet the house they form is temporary. It rises, exists briefly, and then it’s gone. Yoo describes the floating structure as embodying both the creative force of desire and the fleeting nature of existence. The house briefly emerges through people’s dreams, and that, apparently, is enough.

I think that’s the most honest thing any artist has said about housing in a long time. We build our ideas of home from desire, from inherited images of what shelter is supposed to look like, from what we were told to want, and from what we quietly imagine when no one is watching. And all of it is more temporary than we tend to admit. The average person moves multiple times in their life. Neighborhoods change. The house you grew up in gets renovated beyond recognition or torn down entirely. The physical structure of home has always been more fragile than we want it to be.

What Yoo does is make that fragility visible without making it tragic. The floating structure is genuinely striking to look at. The garments create a soft, almost organic texture that reads as intimate rather than architectural, which is exactly the point. You’re not looking at a building. You’re looking at a collective act of imagination, briefly held together by shared hope. Jisoo Yoo is an artist worth paying close attention to. Her work doesn’t announce itself loudly, but it asks questions that stick. Dream House is a reminder that the spaces we live in are not neutral. They are built, always, from something we wanted.

Forget Smart Homes, Moooi Is Designing Homes That Feel Alive

Light moves through trees. Shadows stretch and shrink. No two afternoons ever look quite the same. Moooi wants your living room to borrow that same restlessness. In a conversation with Yanko Design, the Dutch design house laid out a vision for interiors that respond to time, mood and the people living inside them, rather than staying frozen in one fixed arrangement from the day they’re installed.

It is a strange kind of ambition for a furniture brand to have. Strange but brilliant. Moooi has spent 25 years refusing to make boring things, and its next chapter looks less like a product catalog and more like a philosophy for how homes should feel. Not smarter. Not more automated. Just more alive, in the same unpredictable way the outside world already is.

The concept has a name, The Living Room, and it started as a simple question the brand kept circling back to. What if an interior never sat still, but moved through a day the way the world outside a window does, gradually and without announcing itself. Lighting could soften as morning turns to afternoon. Objects could shift subtly in response to who’s in the room and what they’re doing. Nothing about it reads as gimmick or gadgetry, which is deliberate, since Moooi keeps insisting this has nothing to do with sensors or automation. It reads instead like weather indoors, a mood that drifts rather than a setting you toggle. That distinction matters more than it sounds.

Atmosphere has subtly become the real product Moooi sells, and everything else follows from it. The brand says its process now starts with a single question, how do people want to feel the moment they walk in, long before anyone picks a fabric or a finish. That thinking explains why Moooi’s catalog has crept well past furniture and lighting into wallcoverings, carpets, ceramic tiles and even bespoke scent. Each addition exists to thicken the sensory layer of a room rather than decorate its surface. Building a mood board was never the goal. Building an entire world was.

Personalization is where the philosophy stops being poetic and starts getting genuinely strange, in the best sense. Moooi’s collaboration with EveryHuman uses AI to translate a person’s mood into a custom room fragrance, treating scent as another material a designer can shape rather than an afterthought sprayed in before guests arrive. That same instinct extends to digitally printed carpets and layered surfaces built around individual taste instead of a single house style. The brand frames this as giving creative tools to people rather than finished products, which flips the usual furniture relationship on its head. You are not buying a chair here. You are being handed the freedom to keep shaping a space as your own taste evolves.

None of this would land without Moooi’s oldest habit, which the brand still describes as an ambition to stop the boring business. That mantra showed up loudly at the brand’s 25th anniversary installation in Milan this year, a mirrored, multi sensory environment built at Superstudio Più with choreographer Yoann Bourgeois, layering light, movement and scent into something meant to be felt rather than simply viewed. Marcel Wanders has said there’s no one who walks through a Moooi installation feeling nothing, and that stubborn refusal to be neutral is the connective tissue between a 2001 startup and a 2026 AI fragrance experiment.

Where this goes next is of more consequence than where it started. Moooi has been clear that technology should function as another creative material, sitting alongside craft and color rather than steering the whole show. If The Living Room concept ever leaves the realm of installation and lands inside actual homes, it will be a genuinely different pitch than anything coming out of the smart home industry right now. Not a house that watches you. A house that keeps you company.

These MacOS-inspired flip flops are weird, playful, and sadly don’t come with Apple “Find My”

The mind of David Delahunty is something no LLM can capture. With the speed most marketing teams would be envious of, David churns out idea after idea on his Instagram, turning brands and visual icons into fun products that creatively challenge how you look at logos, shapes, and designs. We’ve covered a bunch before, including an MS Paint-inspired makeup kit, along with this Finder icon-inspired backpack. A recurring theme in Delahunty’s collection, the Finder icon ‘finds’ itself in a new avatar this time – interlocking flipflops.

A lot of his designs lean on heavy visual puns, which make for great eye-candy on Instagram, but on rare occasions they make for great products too! Delahunty’s made MacOS Finder-inspired necklaces (which you can still buy, btw), and it’s about time that these flipflops enter the production hall of fame too. They’re fairly uncomplicated, molded as a single-piece polyurethane flip-flop, with left and right units being blue and white respectively. And no, a Latina mother throwing these at a misbehaving child wouldn’t classify as ‘Airdrop’.

When Bill Hernandez and Steve Jobs designed the original Finder icon, I doubt they realized what meme material it possessed. The icon is innately memorable, but it’s also easily reproducible as different products – Delahunty’s flipflops are a great example. The icon is split into two, making it perfect to turn into flipflops, although that weird jagged central cut is a sort of unique challenge when it comes to wearability. However, with a fair amount of planning, it’s easy to account for the fact that the flipflops aren’t entirely bilaterally symmetrical. I guess that’s the beauty about them.

Each shoe is made the same way Crocs are – molded as a single piece with no interlocking, stitching, or gluing of extra parts. This makes each flipflop incredibly strong, fairly comfortable, and long-lasting. The flipflops in question come with cutouts that depict the Finder icon’s face too, which I think is a great idea because they serve as ventilation, so your footwear doesn’t smell like death because the polyurethane isn’t particularly breathable. The cutouts are great for airing the footwear out after a day at the beach too, although try not to get sand into them through the cuts – it’s no fun dealing with gritty shoes rubbing against your feet like literal sandpaper.

Delahunty’s mind works much faster than most people’s hands, so a lot of his ideas get mocked up using AI (it’s honestly one of the best examples of AI enhancing someone’s workflow). That being said, a lot of tweaking needs to be done before these shoes hit production. This Floating Waterfall Off Madagascar Wants to Power a Nation, Heal a Society, and Become a Resort — All at Once

Off the southeast coast of Africa, more than 500 kilometers into the Indian Ocean, lies Madagascar — a country defined by extraordinary biodiversity, vast natural wealth, and a deepening energy crisis that leaves the majority of its population without electricity. It is here that designer Ahmad Eghtesad has set his most ambitious concept: the Baobab Waterfall, a floating mixed-use infrastructure that proposes to generate clean energy, rehabilitate society, and eventually evolve into a thriving resort — all from the open ocean.

The concept was developed as a competition entry for the prestigious Jacques Rougerie Foundation, which challenges architects and designers to imagine the future of maritime architecture. Eghtesad, working alongside collaborators Mohammad Aghaei and Nastaran Fazeli, drew his primary inspiration from the baobab tree itself — a native Malagasy symbol of resilience, capable of storing water and sustaining life in the harshest of environments. The architectural form mirrors this logic: wide at the crown, deeply rooted in its purpose, built to outlast the conditions that necessitated it.

At its core, the Baobab Waterfall operates as a continuous deep-ocean waterfall system. Ocean water is redirected and channeled through the structure on a massive scale, generating renewable electricity in volumes comparable to natural hydrological forces. The structure also integrates transparent greenhouses into its central tower, layering agricultural function into what is otherwise an industrial power plant. This dual programming — energy production and food cultivation — reflects a design philosophy that refuses singular solutions.

What makes the Baobab Waterfall genuinely provocative, though, is its social dimension. The structure is initially conceived as a rehabilitation center — a response to Madagascar’s overcrowded correctional facilities, themselves a symptom of poverty and energy-driven economic hardship. The idea is architectural optimism taken to its logical extreme: design not just infrastructure, but the conditions for social repair. As crime rates decline and the rehabilitation program matures, the complex is designed to seamlessly transition into a multipurpose resort and green energy hub, leaving behind a prosperous legacy rather than an institution.

Rendered with cinematic precision using Autodesk 3ds Max, Rhinoceros 3D, Grasshopper, and V-Ray, the visuals alone communicate the project’s ambition — dramatic contrasts between raw ocean forces and human engineering, scale that feels both monumental and quietly inevitable.

Whether or not the Baobab Waterfall ever leaves the realm of concept, it asks a question worth sitting with: what does it look like when architecture refuses to solve just one problem? Eghtesad’s answer floats somewhere off the coast of Madagascar, shaped like a tree that never stops giving.

The Fortune Cookie Redesigned With Braille Is Pure Genius

Fortune cookies are one of those small rituals that carry more weight than they should. You crack it open, fish out the slip of paper, and read whatever odd little prophecy is inside. It’s silly, sure. But it’s also communal. The whole table does it. Everyone compares fortunes, laughs at the vague predictions, and tucks the good ones into their wallets for luck. It’s a shared moment disguised as a throwaway snack. And for visually impaired individuals, that moment stops at the crack of the shell.

Korean designer Hyerim Yoo’s response to that gap is Fortune Dot, a tactile device that lets visually impaired users independently read a daily fortune in Braille. But describing it that way undersells what makes it genuinely remarkable. Because Yoo didn’t just solve the accessibility problem. She solved it beautifully.

The object is shaped exactly like a fortune cookie. Same rounded form, same warm beige palette, same satisfying heft. A small translucent tab sticks out from the side, the only visual tell that this isn’t actually food. That tab is the “fortune paper,” a design detail so considered it almost makes you laugh. When you pull the two halves apart, the gesture mirrors breaking a real cookie open, and what you find inside is a refreshable Braille display with raised pin cells arranged in neat rows across a recessed panel. The message is there, waiting to be read with your fingertips, exactly as Yoo’s tagline describes it: today’s luck, felt at your fingertips.

The engineering inside is worth pausing on. The exploded views of the device reveal individual Braille cell modules, each capable of raising and lowering their pins to form different characters. It’s a compact, mechanical system tucked into something that looks like it belongs on a dessert plate. The bottom edge carries a USB-C port for charging, nearly invisible from the outside. The whole thing is small enough to drop into a pouch alongside a pair of AirPods and a lip balm, which is apparently exactly what Yoo intended.

What makes this design stand apart from most inclusive design projects, though, is the color system. Fortune Dot comes in three variants named Soft Bake, Signature Bake, and Dark Bake. The names follow the logic of actual cookie baking, and the colors range from a pale cream to a deep chocolate brown. It’s a playful, smart branding decision that does real work. It removes any clinical association from the product. It makes Fortune Dot feel like something you’d want to own and carry, not something assigned to you by necessity.

The branding extends outward into a full identity system. The Fortune Dot logo uses a dot-based pattern that quietly references Braille without spelling it out. It appears on a branded coffee cup in one of the campaign shots, wrapped in wired earbuds, Fortune Dot perched on top. That image alone communicates something most accessible product design never manages to: that this object belongs in the texture of everyday life, not apart from it.

The packaging holds up the same way. A light blue box lid features Braille text running across the top, the Fortune Dot wordmark sitting below it in clean type, and a cutout that reveals the cookie silhouette inside. When you lift the lid, the device sits nested in a cream interior, the translucent fortune tab pointing upward. It’s the kind of unboxing that feels like it was designed to be experienced by touch as much as by sight, which, of course, it was.

I’ve seen a lot of inclusive design work that gets the intention right but misses in execution, products that function well but feel set apart, designed for a category of user rather than a person. Fortune Dot doesn’t feel like that. It feels like something a designer fell genuinely in love with, in the best possible way, the kind of love that shows up in every detail, from the baking-level color names to the translucent paper tab to the way the hinges split open just so. That level of care is rare. When you see it, you notice.

Hario’s V60 Gets Its First Real Upgrade in 20 Years for $23

The original Hario V60 is the kind of object that earns its own mythology. Released in 2004, it became the face of the third-wave coffee movement: a simple cone of heat-resistant glass (or ceramic, or plastic, depending on how serious you are) that turned the morning cup into a ritual of patience and precision. Baristas loved it. Coffee nerds obsessed over it. And somewhere along the way, it became as recognizable as a kitchen object can get without appearing on a museum shelf.

That legacy makes the V60 Dripper NEO an interesting proposition. Hario could have left well enough alone. Instead, they spent two years quietly engineering a redesign that touches the one part of the V60 nobody talks about but everyone deals with: the ribs.
