The Apple Watch Series 10 is more like a lifestyle companion than just a piece of tech, offering style, functionality, and peace of mind for those who prioritize their health.

Apple’s latest wearable, the Apple Watch Series 10, makes meaningful advancements, especially in health tracking. With FDA-approved sleep apnea detection, Apple has expanded the watch’s role from a daytime fitness companion to a 24/7 health monitor. After wearing the Series 10 for a few days, I’ve noticed how seamlessly it fits into all aspects of my life—from workouts to sleep. Let’s dive into the details.

Designer: Apple

Design That Catches the Eye

The first thing that immediately stood out about the Series 10 is its sleek design. The watch seemed to mold perfectly around my wrist, like a missing piece of a puzzle that fits seamlessly into place on a canvas. Apple’s attention to detail is evident, especially in how they’ve managed to slim the watch down to just 9.7mm, making it the thinnest Apple Watch yet. This reduction in thickness doesn’t just look good on paper; you feel the difference instantly. The Series 10 is almost weightless on your wrist, ideal for day and night wear.

The aluminum model is about 10% lighter, and if you opt for the titanium version, it’s nearly 20% lighter than the stainless steel models. The 1mm difference in thickness between the Series 9 and Series 10 may seem minimal, but it feels significant when worn. The slimmer profile, particularly with the 46mm model, makes it easier to wear for extended periods without any bulkiness. The watch never felt intrusive, whether I was working out, typing at my desk, or relaxing.

Apple Watch Titanium (Natural)

I had the chance to test both the Jet Black aluminum and Natural titanium models. The Jet Black is sleek and modern, offering a bold yet understated look. The Natural titanium, with its polished finish mimicking stainless steel, adds a premium touch. Both finishes provide something different, depending on your style.

Apple Watch Series 10 (Jet black)

Apple also offers aluminum models in Rose Gold and Silver, and the titanium versions come in Slate and Gold, catering to various personal preferences. Whether you want something striking or classic, there’s a finish to match your personality.

Display: Bigger, Brighter, and Easier to Love

The Series 10 boasts the largest and brightest display Apple has ever made, even surpassing the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The wide-angle OLED display curves seamlessly into the edges, giving it a sleek, modern look. The display is 40% brighter when viewed at an angle, making reading notifications in direct sunlight easy and hassle-free.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 vs. Apple Watch Series 10 (Titanium) vs. Apple Watch Series 10 (Aluminum)

I’ve worn the Apple Watch Ultra for its flat display and rugged feel, but I must admit that the Series 10’s curved screen brings a level of elegance that’s hard to ignore. The Ultra’s flat display offers practicality, especially in terms of scratch resistance, as I’ve noticed my older curved models tend to pick up scratches more easily over time. The Ultra’s ruggedness and industrial look are great for outdoor activities or those seeking extra durability.

Apple Watch Ultra 2

However, the Series 10’s curves make it feel more refined and contemporary, elevating the overall design into something more than just a piece of tech—it feels like a stylish accessory. Whether you prefer the Ultra’s rugged protection or the Series 10’s elegant curves really depends on personal taste, but there’s no denying that the Series 10 fits seamlessly into more aspects of my day-to-day life.

Straps That Match Your Lifestyle and All-Day Comfort

Straps can make or break your comfort, and Apple has updated several designs to complement the Series 10’s lightweight and ergonomic build. I fell in love with the Solo Loop in green. Its flexible, buckle-free design offers a snug yet comfortable fit, making it ideal for workouts and sleep. The Milanese Loop and Link Bracelet have also been redesigned to match the polished titanium finishes, offering a sleek, all-metal look for those who want something more formal.

For a more active style, the Sport Loop is breathable and made with 45% recycled materials, perfect for intense exercise. Whether you prefer something functional, stylish, or both, Apple offers countless strap designs—from leather options to vibrant silicone bands—allowing the watch to adapt to any occasion seamlessly.

One of the biggest surprises with the Series 10 is just how comfortable it is. It’s so lightweight that I often forget I’m wearing it. The watch stays in place without feeling bulky or intrusive, whether I’m typing, running errands, or getting in a quick workout. The Series 10 really shines in its all-night wearability, thanks to Apple’s introduction of FDA-approved sleep apnea detection. Sleep apnea, which causes repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep, can lead to long-term health risks like heart disease. With the Series 10, you can monitor potential signs of this condition in a non-intrusive way, thanks to its lightweight design and seamless sleep tracking.

Health and Fitness Features Galore: More Than Just Fitness

Health and fitness have always been at the core of the Apple Watch, and Series 10 builds on this legacy with watchOS 11. The new Vitals App consolidates heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, and sleep tracking into one convenient interface. Having all these metrics in one place is incredibly useful for someone who enjoys keeping tabs on their health.

The FDA-approved sleep apnea detection is a key addition. It allows users to monitor their breathing patterns and get alerts if something seems off, providing peace of mind without intrusive sleep studies.

Fitness enthusiasts will also appreciate the new Training Load feature, which tracks the intensity of cardio workouts and provides an effort rating from 1 to 10. This real-time feedback ensures you’re pushing yourself just the right amount without overdoing it.

Another thoughtful addition is the ability to pause Activity Rings for up to 90 days. Sometimes life gets in the way, and whether you’re recovering from an injury or taking a much-needed break, this feature allows you to return to your routine without losing progress.

Sleep Apnea Onboarding Process: Clear and Straightforward

Setting up the sleep apnea detection feature is intuitive, especially if you’re familiar with the Health app. After updating to iOS 18, you can find the Breathing Disturbances section under Respiratory in the app. From there, the onboarding process guides you through a simple setup.

Apple explains how the feature works: It monitors temporary interruptions in breathing during sleep, which could be influenced by factors like body position or alcohol intake. Frequent disturbances over multiple nights, however, may indicate sleep apnea. After completing the setup, you can enable **Sleep Apnea Notifications.

The Series 10 tracks your sleep over time, and while it takes about 30 days to gather sufficient data for a proper assessment, this long-term tracking ensures accuracy. Detailed insights, including charts of breathing disturbances, are then available within the Health app, offering a comprehensive view of your overnight respiratory health.

This setup felt seamless, and I found myself relying on the watch as my go-to sleep tracker—especially since it’s nearly invisible on my wrist at night.

Performance That Keeps Pace with Your Life

The S10 chip under the hood delivers a fast and smooth experience. Whether I’m opening apps, navigating the watch, or tracking workouts, everything runs seamlessly without any lag.

Battery life has been solid, with Apple claiming up to 18 hours of use under normal conditions and up to 36 hours with Low Power Mode. I found that the watch easily lasts from morning to night with juice to spare, and the fast charging feature gets me back up to 80% in just 30 minutes. It’s perfect for a quick top-up before heading out.

Convenience Features That Make Life Easier

The Series 10 includes several convenience features that enhance everyday use. The Ultra Wideband chip effortlessly helps me find my misplaced iPhone, a feature I’ve already relied on more than once. Meanwhile, the Translate app in watchOS 11 has been a lifesaver during my travels, allowing me to get quick translations without pulling out my phone.

Taking calls on the go is also easier than ever. The built-in speaker and voice isolation technology ensure that calls come through clearly, even in noisy environments. It’s one of those features that you don’t realize you need until you have it—and then it becomes indispensable.

Sustainability: A Watch That’s Greener

Apple’s push for sustainability continues with the Series 10. The aluminum and titanium models, paired with select bands, are now carbon neutral. Apple also uses recycled materials like gold, rare earth elements, and aluminum in its construction. The packaging has been reduced by 30%, aligning with Apple’s goal to eliminate plastic packaging by 2025.

Is It Worth the Upgrade?

The Apple Watch Series 10 offers significant improvements, particularly in health tracking and overall comfort. With FDA-approved sleep apnea detection, a thinner and lighter form factor, and enhanced performance, it’s a strong upgrade for anyone who prioritizes health monitoring.

The new sleep apnea detection and enhanced health metrics make the Series 10 an ideal 24/7 companion for those who already sleep with their Apple Watch. If you’re already embedded in the Apple ecosystem and value these features, it’s an excellent choice.

However, if you’re content with a recent Apple Watch model and don’t see the need for advanced health tracking, the Series 10’s upgrades may not feel essential. Ultimately, it depends on your personal needs and whether these new features enhance your daily routine.

Ultimately, the Apple Watch Series 10 feels more like a lifestyle companion than just a piece of tech. Whether you’re an Apple loyalist or considering making the switch, this watch offers style, functionality, and peace of mind for those who prioritize their health.

AirPods 4 bring joy to everyday life with open-ear comfort, ANC, and seamless integration, all while delivering immersive sound.
award-icon

Apple’s back with the AirPods 4, and as someone who’s been using them for a bit now, I wanted to share my thoughts. Apple has refined nearly every aspect of this model, improving fit, sound, and functionality without losing sight of the simplicity that’s made AirPods a household name. If you’re like me and appreciate the open-ear style, especially for its comfort and lightweight feel, these new earbuds bring even more to the table. They deliver a more secure fit and significant performance enhancements that may surprise you. Whether you’re listening to music, taking calls, or multitasking throughout the day, the AirPods 4 strikes a delicate balance between staying connected to your surroundings and delivering top-tier audio quality. If you’ve been waiting for an upgrade or want to experience something a little more refined, these might be worth your attention.

Designer: Apple

Design That Feels Just Right

At first glance, the AirPods 4 look familiar—sleek and minimalist, just like we’ve come to expect from Apple. But when I picked them up, I noticed some subtle changes that made a real difference. Apple continues its commitment to minimalism but has introduced thoughtful design refinements aimed at enhancing comfort and stability.

Apple AirPods 4 + ANC

The external proportions and contours have been reimagined to ensure a more secure and comfortable fit. Apple used advanced 3D photogrammetry to analyze over 50 million ear shapes—which is pretty impressive if you ask me. By adjusting the width and refining the angle of the AirPods, they’ve managed to make them sit more securely in the ear without feeling intrusive. These changes focus less on dramatic visual differences and more on subtle enhancements that improve how they feel during daily use.

I found that they sit in my ears more reliably now, whether running to catch a flight, working in the kitchen, or rowing on the exercise machine. The refined contouring means they stay in place without needing constant readjustment, regardless of my activity. These design updates maintain the sleek, unobtrusive form while offering better support for all-day wear.

The stems are a bit narrower this time, housing the new H2 chip, which balances the earbuds nicely when I wear them. The force sensor in the stem remains an essential part of the design, allowing me to control music playback or calls effortlessly with a simple press. It keeps things straightforward without adding unnecessary buttons or touch controls that can sometimes be finicky.

The charging case also got an update—it’s over 10% smaller, which might not sound like much, but it’s noticeably more pocket-friendly. I’m not sure if Apple consciously decided to design the AirPods case’s size and shape to fit the coin pocket on jeans, but it’s the perfect place to carry them—making them the ultimate everyday carry device. This smaller size continues the trend of portability and ease of use, fitting seamlessly into your day-to-day routine without adding any bulk.

AirPods Pro 2 + AirPods 4 + ANC

Plus, it supports seamless charging options through USB-C, Qi wireless chargers, and even Apple Watch chargers. That is super convenient because I can use whatever charger I have handy.

While the aesthetic remains in line with previous models, these refined proportions make the AirPods 4 feel like a more mature evolution of the open-ear design that many of us already love.

Comfortable for the Long Haul

Wearing the AirPods 4 has been a comfortable experience, especially since I prefer open-ear designs over in-ear buds like the AirPods Pro. There’s a time and place for the closed-ear design of the AirPods Pro with passive noise cancellation—about 30% of the time for me, with airplanes being a prime example. But for the rest of the time, an open-ear design with Active Noise Cancellation is the ideal and best-case scenario in any setting. The AirPods 4 strike that perfect balance, offering comfort while keeping you connected to your environment when needed.

AirPods 4 + ANC

The refined shape accommodates a broader range of ear sizes, and I can wear them for hours without discomfort. The earbuds feel lightweight, and the pressure-equalization vents mean there’s no buildup of pressure inside my ears, which is something that used to bother me with other earbuds.

One feature I didn’t expect to appreciate as much as I do is the new touch-free Siri interaction. It’s neat to nod for “yes” or shake my head for “no” when responding to Siri notifications. It might sound a bit futuristic, but racing across terminals to catch a flight with a roller board in one hand and a coffee in the other, having both hands full, it’s a small convenience that makes multitasking feel effortless.

The AirPods 4 have held up well durability-wise. They’ve got an IP54 rating, so they’re resistant to dust, sweat, and a bit of water. I’ve worn them during workouts, and even if I was caught in the rain or a storm, I’m confident they’d survive with a clean. It’s reassuring to know they can handle the wear and tear of daily life.

Sound Quality That Surprises

Now, let’s talk about sound. I wasn’t sure what to expect from an open-ear design, but the AirPods 4 have genuinely impressed me. The audio is crisp, with richer bass and clearer highs than anticipated. The custom high-excursion driver and high dynamic range amplifier deliver powerful and nuanced sound well.

The big addition here is Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and I was initially skeptical about how effective it could be in open-ear earbuds. Flying home from the Glowtime event, I sat in the window exit row—right by the engine—where the low hum can be incredibly distracting. To my surprise, the AirPods 4 with ANC did an impressive job drowning out the engine noise. I’d estimate they’re about 85-90% as effective as the AirPods Pro 2 in similar conditions. The difference in effectiveness comes down to the design: the AirPods Pro 2 benefit from their in-ear fit, which naturally provides passive noise cancellation, creating a tighter seal that blocks more external sound.

Still, considering the open-ear form of the AirPods 4, the ANC is remarkably good at reducing low-frequency sounds like airplane hums, the constant buzz of city traffic, or even those old-school AC units that sound like they’re on their last breath. While it’s not going to block out everything—this isn’t an over-ear headphone cocoon—it’s more than enough to let you get lost in your music or podcast. Even in noisy environments, I found myself more immersed in my media, which shows just how far Apple has pushed the boundaries of open-ear ANC technology. It’s a balance of staying aware of your surroundings while cutting out the distractions that would usually pull you away from the experience.

The real advantage here is that you can enjoy noise reduction without sacrificing comfort or situational awareness. You’re still connected to your surroundings, which is especially useful when you’re out walking or working in an office, yet the ANC does a great job of toning down the distractions that tend to pull you out of the experience. It’s a best-of-both-worlds scenario, and for someone who prefers open-ear designs, it’s a welcome evolution in noise-cancellation technology.

Adaptive Audio is another feature I’ve grown to appreciate. It adjusts between Transparency mode and ANC based on where I am. For example, if I’m walking from a busy street into a quiet café, it seamlessly recalibrates without me having to do anything. It’s one of those things you might not notice immediately, but it enhances the listening experience by adapting to your surroundings.

Calls are clearer, too. The Voice Isolation feature works wonders by filtering out background noise, making sure the person on the other end hears me loud and clear, even in busy or noisy environments. One of the things I appreciate about the open-ear design, though, is the sense of openness it provides during calls. With in-ear passive noise cancellation, I sometimes get that “clogged” feeling, and because of mild to moderate hearing loss, I tend to raise my voice—even with Adaptive Audio on—because I feel disconnected from my surroundings. However, the AirPods 4’s open-ear design eliminates that sensation entirely. A sense of freedom and natural sound flow lets me speak comfortably without that urge to shout.

AirPods Pro 2 vs AirPods 4 + ANC

It’s a refreshing difference. It doesn’t just make calls more pleasant—it also gives me a better handle on how I sound in various environments. When paired with Personalized Spatial Audio, watching movies or FaceTime calls becomes even more immersive, with sound that feels like it’s coming from all around, enhancing the experience without sacrificing that open, natural feeling.

Battery life has been solid, with up to 5 hours of listening time, which extends to around 30 hours with the charging case under typical conditions. Even with ANC enabled, it’s about 4 hours per charge. When I’ve been in a hurry, a quick 5-minute charge gives me roughly an hour of playback, which has been a lifesaver on multiple occasions. Of course, real-world battery life may vary slightly depending on volume levels and usage patterns, but I’ve found these estimates to be consistent with my experience.

A Step Toward Sustainability

It’s appreciative that Apple is making efforts toward sustainability with the AirPods 4. They’ve used 100% recycled rare earth elements in the magnets and recycled gold in the circuit boards. The solder on the main logic board is also made from recycled tin. Even the packaging is entirely fiber-based and 30% smaller than before, aligning with their goal to eliminate plastic packaging by 2025. It’s good to know that companies are thinking about environmental impact, and while it’s just a step, it’s a move in the right direction.

Is It Worth It?

Coming from a guy who owns two pairs of AirPods Pro 2, I can say the AirPods 4 have been a worthwhile addition to my collection. Why two, you might ask? Well, half of my flights are longer than 5 hours, so having a second pair handy is a lifesaver when the battery runs low mid-flight. Now, are the AirPods 4 worth the investment? They may not be the cheapest option, but the overall experience has impressed me. And yes, if I hadn’t been provided a pair to review, I’d 100% purchase one myself—especially for the open-ear design, seamless integration, and everyday convenience they bring.

Between the AirPods 4 and the AirPods 4 + ANC, I’d recommend the latter if finances permit. Not only do you get all the great features mentioned above, but ANC adds the ability to enjoy media without cranking up the volume to drown out background noise. Over time, this could help prevent hearing loss, which is a nice feature for anyone concerned about long-term listening habits.

If you’re already using Apple devices, the integration is seamless. They automatically switch between my iPhone, iPad, Mac, and even my Apple Watch without any effort on my part. Features like hands-free Siri and the Find My Case add that extra layer of convenience to my daily routine, making the AirPods 4 an essential part of my everyday carry.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the AirPods 4 have been a pleasant surprise. Apple managed to pack in some impressive features while keeping the design sleek and comfortable. They’ve made improvements without overcomplicating things, which I appreciate. Oh, and let’s not forget: Apple, in their infinite wisdom, decided to remove the pairing button. But don’t worry; you don’t have to jump through hoops to repair them. Instead of a button, you open the lid and tap the front twice to put them into pairing mode! Genius. A clever use of the accelerometer inside the case—so simple, it’s like magic. I’m starting to think they’re not just making earbuds but sneaking in little pieces of wizardry.

If you’re in the market for new earbuds and value sound quality, ease of use, and some thoughtful features—and you’re okay with the price tag—the AirPods 4 are worth considering. They’ve redefined what I thought was impossible with open-ear earbuds and quickly become part of my everyday carry.

Apple Watch Series 10: Largest Display and Enhanced Usability Detailed

Apple’s latest wearable, the Series 10 Watch, pushes usability and design to new heights. Featuring its largest and most advanced display yet, the Series 10 now boasts the biggest screen ever built into the brand’s smartwatch lineup. Slightly larger than the Apple Watch Ultra, this screen provides up to 30% more area than earlier versions, allowing users to increase font size without losing content and offering extra lines of text for apps like Messages and Mail.

Designer: Apple

In focusing on user experience, the company has made Series 10 easier to interact with. Rounded corners and a wider aspect ratio give the watch a sleek and softer appearance. One of the most significant upgrades is the first-ever wide-angle OLED display, designed to emit more light at wider viewing angles. This proves particularly useful when checking the watch from the side, such as while typing or walking. The display is also up to 40% brighter when viewed at an angle, making information easier to read in passing.

Battery efficiency remains a priority, and Series 10 features Always On mode, which updates once per second and displays a ticking second hand even when the wrist is down. A new watch face, Flux, takes full advantage of the large display, filling it with dynamic color. The case, made from a polished aluminum alloy, marks a first for Apple with its reflective Jet Black and warm Rose Gold finishes.

Comfort has been central to the design of the Series 10. The latest iteration is Apple’s thinnest watch, measuring 9.7 millimeters thick, almost 10% thinner than its predecessor. Achieving this thin profile required miniaturizing essential components, including the digital crown, SIP, and speaker system, which has been re-engineered to be 30% smaller without compromising sound quality. Users can now play music or podcasts directly through the watch’s speaker, eliminating the need for AirPods in certain situations.

Series 10 offers the fastest charging experience, thanks to a new metal back that integrates the antenna and enhances cellular performance. The design retains its 50-meter water resistance, making it ideal for swimming and surfing. Charging now reaches 80% in just 30 minutes, adding convenience to the user’s day.

Alongside the aluminum options, the tech giant has introduced polished titanium cases in three colors: natural, gold, and dark slate gray. These lightweight cases are nearly 20% lighter than the stainless steel Series 9, offering durability without extra bulk. The Milanese Loop and Classic Link bracelets have been updated to match these titanium finishes, creating a seamless metallic aesthetic.

Beyond functionality and design, the Series 10 reflects Apple’s commitment to sustainability. The titanium model is made with 95% recycled materials and produced using renewable electricity. The new S10 SIP, featuring a neural engine, powers key features like Siri dictation and crash detection, enhancing everyday usability and safety.

The Apple Watch Series 10 represents the company’s ongoing effort to combine thoughtful design with cutting-edge technology, delivering a seamless user experience worldwide.

Narwal Unveils Freo Z Ultra at IFA 2024, Showcasing Advanced Robotic Cleaning Technology

Narwal introduced its latest robotic vacuum and mop, the Freo Z Ultra, at IFA 2024. This new device brings advanced cleaning technology to homes, offering intelligent features for thorough and efficient cleaning. It uses the TwinAI Dodge Obstacle Avoidance system, allowing it to navigate around objects precisely and recognize over 120 household items in real-time. Whether furniture, cables, or pet waste, the robot efficiently avoids obstacles while cleaning all areas.

Designer: Narwal

The design is clean and minimal, with curves that allow it to blend into various home environments. The key feature of the Freo Z Ultra is its dual RGB camera system, which captures up to 1.5 million data points per second. This wide-angle system enhances the robot’s ability to recognize objects and move through spaces without making contact. The high-definition cameras provide detailed visuals, ensuring they can adjust to different surroundings and avoid even small objects.

A significant part of the Freo Z Ultra’s functionality lies in its AI DirtSense 2.0 technology. This system automatically identifies the type of mess it encounters and adapts its cleaning method accordingly. For example, the vacuum first handles dry messes like dust or crumbs with its 12,000 Pa suction. Afterward, it switches to mopping mode to clean up liquid spills, ensuring no dirt is left behind. Separating dry and wet cleaning avoids contamination and maintains a high standard of cleanliness.

The mop system also uses AI technology to optimize its performance. The AI-Adaptive Hot Water Mop Washing system adjusts the water temperature between 113°F and 167°F (45°C and 75°C) based on the type of dirt detected. Regular dirt is cleaned with warm water, while more stubborn grime is addressed with hotter water. After each cleaning session, the system automatically washes and dries the mop, preventing bacteria growth and maintaining mop efficiency.

The Freo Z Ultra quickly maps its environment, creating a detailed 3D model in six minutes. It uses ultrasonic sensors and RGB cameras to navigate various surfaces, including corners and edges. The Smart EdgeSwing technology allows the robot to easily clean along walls and baseboards, ensuring no area is missed during the cleaning process, even in tight spaces.

The robot integrates with popular smart home systems like Alexa, Google Home, and Siri. Users can control the vacuum through voice commands or manage its settings via the Narwal app. The app allows users to customize cleaning schedules, set no-go zones, and remotely monitor the vacuum’s progress. This makes the Freo Z Ultra a versatile tool for households that value convenience and ease of use.

Privacy is another key aspect of the Freo Z Ultra. The robot operates with TÜV Rheinland Privacy Certification, ensuring that all user data remains secure. The robot’s storage and computation functions are kept offline, and any camera use requires user permission. This provides peace of mind for users concerned about data security in their homes.

Pet owners will appreciate the Freo Z Ultra’s pet-friendly features. The vacuum can detect and avoid pets as they move around the house, preventing accidental disturbances. It can also delay cleaning in areas where pets are resting, resuming once the space is free of animals. This ensures pet fur and messes are cleaned effectively without stressing pets or requiring human intervention.

The robot’s Zero Tangling Floating Brush 2.0 is designed to handle hair without tangling. This brush system sweeps 4,400 times per minute, capturing pet hair and debris without causing blockages. Additionally, the robot operates at a noise level of 71 dB, significantly reducing disturbances during its cleaning cycles. This low-noise feature makes it suitable for homes with pets or small children.

The Freo Z Ultra’s self-emptying station simplifies maintenance. The base station can hold up to 120 days’ worth of debris, reducing the need for frequent emptying. It uses hot air at 113°F to dry the collected debris, preventing bacteria buildup and maintaining a hygienic environment. The station also self-cleans and dries the mop after every use, keeping the entire system ready for the next cleaning session without user intervention.

The Freo Z Ultra adapts its cleaning approach based on the surface type. Hardwood floors use less downward pressure to avoid damage. On ceramic tiles, it increases the pressure to ensure a deep clean. The mop’s moisture level is also adjusted to suit the cleaning surface, providing optimal performance on both wood and tile. Carpets are handled with care, as the robot can automatically lift the mop when it detects carpeted areas, allowing it to vacuum the surface without interference.

The device’s powerful 12,000 Pa suction ensures that even deep-set dirt is removed from carpets and other surfaces. Users can enable Power Boost mode through the Narwal app to enhance suction when needed. This allows the Freo Z Ultra to adapt to different cleaning needs, whether tackling high-traffic areas or maintaining delicate surfaces.

Narwal’s Freo Z Ultra offers a comprehensive cleaning solution for homes of all sizes, bringing together advanced AI, privacy protections, and smart home integration. Its ability to adapt to various floor types, combined with features designed for pet owners, makes it a highly versatile tool for maintaining cleanliness with minimal effort. The robot’s low-maintenance design and intelligent cleaning systems ensure a hassle-free experience for users looking to automate their floor care routine.

TECNO at IFA 2024 reveals AI vision and AIoT products to advance Innovation For All

AI as a buzzword has many raising their eyebrows at their every reference, but like any emerging technology, it is something that will redefine human life in the years to come. From AI assistants that understand and carry out every query to analytical AI that makes sense of your notes and data to summarize them into digestible information to generative AI which lets anyone create images and words, AI is empowering people to make more efficient use of their time and resources. That technology, however, will only truly have a positive impact on human civilization if it’s made available to everyone rather than just an elite few. As part of its mission to bring advanced technologies to emerging markets, TECNO is now announcing at IFA 2024 its encompassing vision for AI as well as the AIoT experiences and designs to bridge the digital divide.

Designer: TECNO

AI Vision: Practical AI

To some people, “AI” is a vague buzzword, while others understand it only in the form of Apple Siri or Amazon Alexa. The reality is that AI encompasses a wide range of features and applications, but its most important facet is how it can be integrated into daily life in order to improve the quality of people’s lives. For TECNO, this goal involves not just fancy new features or complicated neural networks or large language models, but also AI that can be understood by everyone, requiring localization and integration with local apps in markets where TECNO operates.

One such example is the Gemini-integrated TECNO smart assistant, Ella AI. Its conversational style makes interaction feel more natural, like talking to a real human who can adapt to the dynamic nature of most conversations. Whether you’re asking for advice on what to wear based on the weather or suggestions for recipes, the TECNO AI Assistant offers a more intuitive alternative to the conventional one-question-one-answer systems of smart assistants.

TECNO’s AI vision also includes features like Real-Time Translation that breaks down language barriers and better connects people across the globe. There’s also AI Writing, which can summarize long walls of text to make them easier to comprehend or help improve your writing with proofreading and suggestions. And, of course, there’s also AI Search that puts the world’s information beneath your fingertip, and quite literally, too, with the now popular circle to search gesture.

AI Artboard takes the somewhat controversial generative AI technology and transforms it into a tool to help give users a creativity boost when brainstorming for ideas. AI Image Editing cleans out undesirable objects in photos or helps put together a comical collage of objects in a single composition. Whether it’s for fun or serious work, TECNO’s AI Assistant helps people get their tasks done faster so they can have more time for more important creative work.

TECNO is also showcasing its first-ever AI PC, the TECNO MEGABOOK T16 Pro 2024 Ultra. Powered by an AI-powered Intel Core Ultra 7 processor with up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1TB of storage, this AI laptop promises exceptional power to drive AI experiences, including those from Windows Copilot+.

TECNO Devices: Technology For All

Of course, AI isn’t the only focus of the technology company. At IFA 2024, TECNO is also unveiling its portfolio of devices that help bridge the digital divide and deliver much-needed technologies to emerging markets. First unveiled at MWC 2024 in February, the TECNO Pocket Go puts a twist on the handheld gaming PC market, combining a gaming computer inside a controller and AR glasses that offer a bigger screen than what these small handheld devices can offer. It also offers advanced AI head tracking and vibration algorithms to add a bit of spice to your games.

The TECNO MEGA MINI Gaming G1 shrinks a gaming desktop down to a more space-efficient size without compromising on performance and, more importantly, cooling. A whisper-quiet cooling pump ensures stable and consistent performance that both gamers and creators need to level up their game. Despite its minuscule form factor, it boasts an Intel Core i9-13900H processor and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card not just for raw performance but to also support AI-powered features.

New to TECNO’s lineup is the MEGABOOK K16S, designed to let entertainment lovers “See bigger, See louder” with its 16-inch widescreen display and 2.5W 4013 quadruple speakers. Running on an AMD Ryzen R7 5800U processor paired with AMD Radeon graphics, the laptop promises stunning visuals and performance as well as AIoT (AI of Things) support that lets it seamlessly multi-task between devices.

TGIF’s experience managing a professional esports club provided deep insights into gamers’ specific needs, directly influencing the TGIF T0’s design. Professional players were involved throughout the development process, testing the chair and offering feedback that shaped its final form. This close collaboration has resulted in a chair that truly meets the demands of professional gamers, making the TGIF T0 a product born from the world of esports.

Aesthetics and Design: Where Style Meets Function

Seamlessly integrating into any gaming setup, the TGIF T0 has a sleek, modern design characterized by sharp lines and angular forms. It’s tailored to suit the gamer’s environment, offering visual appeal and functional performance. Beyond gaming, its versatile design makes it an ideal choice for office use, providing the same level of ergonomic support and comfort in any professional setting.

The TGIF T0 is only available in black, while the TGIF T0 Max is offered in gray. The finishes resist wear and tear, ensuring the chair maintains its new appearance even after heavy use. The base is built for durability and strength, with casters that glide smoothly over various floor surfaces.

Ergonomics: Science in Every Curve

This gaming chair is meticulously crafted with a strong focus on ergonomics. Engineered to endure the demands of extended gaming sessions, it reflects insights from the professional esports community. Unlike traditional chairs that prioritize appearance over functionality, the TGIF T0 is designed to support the body’s natural curves.

At the core is the TGIF T0’s proprietary patent—Dynamic Seat-Back Sync technology—a significant breakthrough in ergonomic design. This system ensures that the seat back and base move with your body, aligning with the spine’s natural shape and reducing pressure points. Whether leaning forward or reclining, the chair adjusts to your posture, enhancing stability and maintaining ergonomic alignment.

Traditional gaming chairs often lack these ergonomic elements. While they may boast flashy designs, their functionality frequently falls short. Most of them rely on rigid steel frames that don’t offer the necessary flexibility or adaptability. This lack of movement can lead to discomfort, as the chair doesn’t sync with your body’s natural motions, causing strain over long periods.

Moreover, they typically use basic foam padding that fails to provide the advanced support found in the TGIF T0. Over time, this foam can lose its shape, leading to discomfort and pressure points. Without an ergonomically designed base, these chairs might force you into awkward postures, increasing the risk of fatigue and long-term issues like back pain.

A wrap-around dual-lumbar support system provides continuous and reliable support to your lower back. The front lumbar cushion cradles your spine while rear support kicks in as you recline. This setup ensures that your lower back stays well-supported and comfortable, whether sitting upright or leaning back.

In comparison, competing gaming chairs often offer only a fixed lumbar pillow that doesn’t adjust or align properly with your spine. This can result in inadequate support, leaving your back vulnerable to discomfort and strain.

Additionally, the seat includes segmented, dual-softness cushioning that effectively addresses the hips and thighs’ distinct shapes and pressure points. The wide seat cushion provides ample space, offering increased comfort and freedom of movement, ensuring you remain comfortable even during lengthy gaming sessions. This design evenly distributes pressure while conforming to the body’s curves for maximum comfort, reducing discomfort during long periods of sitting. Fully adjustable armrests allow you to find the perfect height and angle, easing the strain on your shoulders and wrists.

Many gaming chairs have narrower seats, which can feel restrictive and limit cushioning flexibility. This design makes these chairs less comfortable, particularly for users with larger body frames or frequently shifting positions. Additionally, the armrests typically offer minimal adjustability, failing to meet the diverse ergonomic needs of all gamers.

Material Matters: Comfort Meets Durability

High-quality materials are key to the TGIF T0’s comfort and durability. The chair uses a highly breathable mesh material, a superior alternative to traditional PU leather, that regulates temperature and humidity, keeping the seat surface dry and comfortable all day long. The mesh minimizes deformation over time, enhancing durability and resilience and ensuring consistent support and comfort for years.

For those seeking extra comfort, the TGIF T0 Max version includes slow rebound memory foam in the headrest and cushion. This space-tech memory foam evenly distributes pressure, reducing strain on pressure points and making sitting more comfortable. The memory foam is also durable, maintaining its shape and support over time.

Moreover, the TGIF T0 Max introduces a signature thermal-relief feature that delivers gentle heat directly to the lumbar region. This targeted heat therapy helps alleviate muscle fatigue, promotes better posture, and improves blood circulation during extended sitting. It’s particularly beneficial for those who experience lower back discomfort, providing soothing warmth that helps relax muscles.

Unlike traditional gaming chairs that often rely on non-breathable PU leather, which can trap heat and moisture, this chair features breathable mesh fabric that keeps you cool and comfortable. It’s also built with durable materials to maintain its integrity over time, preventing sagging and wear commonly seen in less advanced options.

Adding to its durability and quality, the TGIF T0 is backed by the industry’s most rigorous testing standards. The chair has undergone extensive BIFMA and SGS testing, achieving the highest quality certifications. After thousands of test iterations, the TGIF T0 exceeds expectations by delivering exceptional performance and longevity you can trust.

Practical features are built in to enhance the gaming experience. Extensive testing with gamers revealed that many prefer to rest their feet on the chair base while playing, leading to a 58-degree inclined base design. This provides a stable and comfortable footrest, reducing leg fatigue and improving posture.

Advanced Features: Enhancing the Gaming Experience

The TGIF T0 comes packed with features to improve your gaming experience. The chair offers customizable settings, allowing users to adjust it to their needs and preferences. The recline function can be set to various angles, and a tilt mechanism can be locked in place or left to rock freely.

The TGIF T0 Max further elevates the experience with additional features, including the built-in thermal relief system, enhanced lumbar pad developed in collaboration with a professional sports rehabilitation center, and the Wintex mesh fabric that offers superior elasticity, breathability, and durability.

Which TGIF T0 is Right for You?

Choosing the TGIF T0 gaming chair means investing in a well-designed option that augments your gaming sessions. Its ergonomic design, high-quality materials, and practical features meet gamers’ needs.

If features like thermal relief, upgraded lumbar support, and advanced materials are top priorities, the TGIF T0 Max is ideal. For those who want comfort and ergonomic support without extra features, the TGIF T0 is a strong option. Choose the TGIF T0 series to make every gaming session more comfortable. Whether you’re a professional esports gamer or a casual player, this chair is designed to meet your needs.

This reflects Lindner’s commitment to reimagining IFA as a vibrant experience that blends technology with entertainment and appeals to a diverse, younger audience, ensuring its relevance as it enters its second century.

Nguyen: How do you plan to address the risk of losing pillar brands that have supported IFA over the years?

Lindner: “It’s a real concern. We’ve already seen some brands pull out in recent years. My job is to bring them back by proving that we understand the changing landscape and are evolving to offer more value.”

Lindner’s candidness about the challenges IFA faces highlights his proactive approach to leadership. His focus on evolving IFA’s value proposition to re-engage these key brands demonstrates that he’s not content with maintaining the status quo. He’s actively seeking to adapt IFA’s offerings to better align with the needs of today’s tech giants. This strategy is vital for keeping IFA relevant in an industry constantly in flux.

Nguyen: Are you expanding IFA’s global reach, particularly in regions like India or China?

Lindner: “This year, we’ve focused on balancing our exhibitor base, especially bringing back more Korean, Japanese, and Taiwanese brands. India has a lot of potential, but we need to approach it with a full-speed strategy, which requires the right local partnerships.”

This strategy to expand IFA’s reach into Asia reflects an understanding of where the future of technology is being shaped. By strengthening ties with key markets like Korea, Japan, and Taiwan and recognizing the potential in India, Lindner is ensuring that IFA remains relevant on a global scale. His emphasis on local partnerships shows a thoughtful, sustainable approach to expansion, extending IFA’s influence well beyond Europe.

IFA Global Press Conference – Shanghai 2016

IFA Global Press Conference – Shanghai 2016

Nguyen: IFA often coincides with Labor Day in the US. Has the show always been scheduled during the first week of September?

Lindner: “Yes, it has traditionally been around this time. The dates for the next several years are already fixed. While it’s a challenge for US companies, especially with Labor Day, we believe this timing is right overall. The first week of September positions IFA at a critical juncture in the calendar, just before the peak sales season in Europe. This timing allows brands to showcase their latest innovations and launch products when consumer interest is at its highest. It also gives companies the opportunity to generate buzz and secure media coverage ahead of the crucial fourth quarter, which is often a make-or-break period for many in the consumer electronics industry.”

IFA Messe Berlin

Lindner elaborated on the rationale behind maintaining this traditional schedule despite potential conflicts for some international participants. He emphasized that the timing of IFA is not arbitrary; it has been carefully chosen to align with the European market’s key sales cycles. This alignment ensures that the event remains strategically positioned to offer maximum value to exhibitors and attendees. By scheduling IFA just before the peak sales season, the event becomes a pivotal platform for brands looking to make significant announcements and capture the attention of both the media and consumers at a time when it matters most.

He acknowledged the challenges that this timing presents for US companies, particularly given the overlap with Labor Day, a major holiday in the United States. However, the benefits of holding IFA during this period far outweigh the drawbacks. The fixed schedule allows companies to plan their product launches and marketing strategies well in advance, ensuring they can fully leverage the opportunities that IFA presents.

Moreover, Lindner pointed out that the consistency of IFA’s schedule has helped to establish the event as a key fixture in the global tech calendar. Companies and industry professionals know exactly when to expect IFA each year, which has contributed to its reputation as a must-attend event for anyone involved in the consumer electronics sector.

Vincent: There’s often a comparison between IFA and CES, especially since they’re so close together. How do you handle the competition, especially for brands that might only have the budget for one major event?

Lindner: “I believe IFA and CES can coexist because they serve different focuses. IFA is a comprehensive showcase right before the peak sales season in Europe, which is crucial for many brands.”

Lindner’s perspective clearly explains how IFA differentiates itself from CES. By emphasizing IFA’s unique timing and focus on the European market, Lindner highlights the event’s strategic importance for brands looking to engage with this critical audience. It’s not about competing head-to-head with CES but about offering a direct connection to the European market at a pivotal moment in the sales cycle.

Vincent: Are there any brands that have particularly impressed you this year that you think Yanko Design readers should check out?

Lindner: “There are several. For example, SharkNinja has been particularly innovative, releasing numerous products in Europe. Samsung continues to impress with their holistic approach to technology, and Chinese brands like DJI are also setting new standards in the market. We should also not underestimate how Chinese brands like Hisense and Haier are bringing power to the market. They understand the market better than before and are moving toward a more quality-driven approach. Their understanding and perception of the market always impress me.”

Lindner’s recognition of these brands highlights the tech industry’s diverse and dynamic nature today, emphasizing IFA’s role as a global platform where both established leaders and emerging innovators can shine.

SharkNinja has been making waves in Europe with various new products that combine cutting-edge tech with everyday practicality. Whether it’s their powerful vacuum cleaners or smart kitchen gadgets, SharkNinja has found a way to make life at home easier and more efficient, which has helped them become a household name in the appliance market.

Samsung, a tech giant, continues dominating a wide range of electronics—from smartphones and home appliances to smart home systems. Their latest advancements in QLED and OLED TVs keep them ahead of the curve in display technology. Samsung’s approach blends sustainability with innovation, making its products forward-thinking and eco-friendly and solidifying its leadership in the industry.

DJI, the brand that revolutionized the drone industry, continues to set higher aerial photography and cinematography standards. Their drones are known for their exceptional camera quality, user-friendly controls, and reliable performance, making them a favorite among professional filmmakers and hobbyists. But their innovation doesn’t stop at drones. They’ve expanded into handheld stabilizers, action cameras, and more. At IFA, there’s a lot of excitement around what they will unveil, particularly with the buzz surrounding the rumored Neo, which is expected to be a game-changer. We’re also eagerly anticipating their entry into the mirrorless camera market, which could bring their imaging expertise to new heights. Additionally, their entry into portable power solutions, including impressive battery technology, and their move into e-bikes are developments we’re watching closely. This expansion into new areas could significantly impact the market and add even more excitement to an impressive lineup.

Hisense has significantly impacted the TV and projector markets, particularly with their massive 100-inch-plus TVs and innovative projector technologies. Their commitment to delivering a cinema-like experience at home has made them a top choice for those seeking high-quality, immersive viewing. The Canvas TV, for example, combines a massive screen with a sleek, minimalist design that easily blends into any living space. Setting New Standards in Dishwashing

The LISSOME R1 is designed with an ultra-slim profile, measuring just 11.02 inches (28cm) wide, making it easy to fit into various spaces, such as small kitchens or office break rooms. It incorporates sweeping jet technology that uses horizontal water jets from a vertical spray arm to tackle tough stains effectively.

In addition to its water-saving features, the R1 ensures that your dishes are clean and hygienic, thanks to its 15-minute quick wash & dry cycle and the world’s first sweeping jet technology. This cutting-edge system uses horizontal water jets to tackle stubborn stains efficiently. The R1 also incorporates dual sterilization technology, combining UVC rays and plasma to effectively eliminate bacteria and germs, making it ideal for sanitizing items like baby bottles, toys, and fruits and vegetables. The R1’s hot air dry function, supported by its independent drying feature, operates at 50°C, ensuring that dishes are thoroughly dried and sanitized. To enhance convenience, the dishwasher’s door opens automatically to release steam and speed up the drying process, leaving your dishes ready for use.

Efficiency and Hygiene Combined

The LISSOME R1 is designed to be both water-efficient and hygienic, making it a standout option for modern households. Using an average of 3.3 liters of water per cycle, the R1 achieves a significant 70% reduction in water usage compared to traditional handwashing, which typically requires around 10 liters. This impressive efficiency is made possible by AI sensor technology that detects water turbidity and adjusts the cleaning process for optimal results. The R1 also features a built-in 3.6L water tank, simplifying setup by eliminating the need for complex plumbing, which is particularly beneficial in environments like RVs or temporary housing.

In addition to its versatility, the R1 offers aesthetic flexibility with two color options: Space Gray and Starlight White. You can choose the color that best matches your style. The R1 Lite, while equally efficient, is available only in Space Gray. This makes it easy to find a model that meets your functional needs and complements your kitchen’s look.

Versatile Use and Aesthetic Options

The LISSOME R1’s versatility makes it an excellent fit for various environments, from small apartments to outdoor settings like campsites. Its compact size and easy setup make it incredibly convenient for limited space and limited resources. Despite its small footprint, the R1 can hold up to 28 pieces of dishware, including plates up to 12 inches in diameter and frying pans up to 10 inches, making it ideal for families of 2-4 people. It’s designed to handle everyday dishwashing needs and more specialized tasks like cleaning baby items or sterilizing fruits and vegetables.

R1 vs. R1 Lite: What’s the Difference?

LISSOME offers two models to meet different needs and budgets: the R1 and the R1 Lite. Both models feature sweeping jet technology and can handle up to 28 pieces of dishes. They operate at a maximum water temperature of 80°C, ensuring effective cleaning and sterilization. However, only the R1 includes an auto-released drying function, making it a more convenient option for those who value hands-off drying.

The LISSOME R1 has a high-speed brushless water pump that provides extra cleaning power, a feature that the R1 Lite lacks. The R1 also includes advanced hygiene features such as UVC + plasma sterilization and an independent hot air dry function to thoroughly clean and sanitize dishes. The R1 Lite, while still efficient, does not include these sterilization and drying technologies.

Another difference lies in convenience features. The R1 offers an AI wash mode and an automatic detergent dispensing system that adjusts the amount of detergent based on the load, reducing the need for user intervention. The R1 Lite requires manual detergent addition and lacks the AI-driven convenience of the R1.

Which Model is Right for You?

So, which one should you choose? The R1 is the better option if you’re looking for a dishwasher that offers advanced cleaning features, superior drying and sterilization, and the ease of AI-driven modes. It’s particularly well-suited for families with young children, health-conscious individuals, or anyone who appreciates having the latest technology in their home.

If budget is your primary concern and you’re okay with fewer advanced features, the R1 Lite is a solid choice. It still delivers excellent cleaning performance with sweeping jet technology and auto-released drying, making it a strong option for smaller households or those with less demanding dishwashing needs.

Both models bring a new level of convenience and efficiency to dishwashing, making them valuable additions to any home. If you’re ready to enhance your kitchen with a compact, powerful, and versatile dishwasher, choose the LISSOME model that best fits your lifestyle. Whether you opt for the feature-packed R1 or the budget-friendly R1 Lite, you’re investing in more than just clean dishes—you’re improving the way you live.

From Track to Timepiece: Rolex’s Enduring Influence on Motorsport and Automotive Excellence

As a guest of Rolex at the 2024 Concours d’Elegance during Monterey Car Week, I experienced a seamless blend of history and innovation against the picturesque setting of Pebble Beach. The event showcased classic and contemporary automotive art, with Rolex’s influence evident throughout, reflecting their commitment to precision, tradition, and forward-thinking design. From meticulously restored vintage cars to unveiling futuristic designs, the festivities highlighted Rolex’s dedication to craftsmanship and innovation. My time there deepened my appreciation for the artistry in automotive design and emphasized Rolex’s role in linking the past, present, and future of motoring. In the following discussion, I’ll explore how Rolex’s legacy continues to shape the world of motorsport and automotive culture, as I experienced firsthand at this year’s memorable festivities.

Designer: Rolex

Rolex: A Legacy of Craftsmanship and Innovation

Rolex embodies luxury, precision, and lasting craftsmanship. Founded by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London in 1905, it has evolved into a global icon. Originally known as Wilsdorf & Davis, the company specialized in distributing timepieces before focusing on manufacturing.

Rolex: The first waterproof and dustproof wristwatch by Rolex in 1926.

In 1908, Rolex was registered, and Wilsdorf set out to create elegant and reliable wristwatches. This pursuit led to developing the first waterproof wristwatch, the Rolex Oyster, in 1926. The Oyster case was a groundbreaking innovation, protecting the watch’s movement from dust, moisture, and pressure, ensuring its accuracy even in challenging conditions.

Innovation continued with the introduction of the Perpetual rotor in 1931, the world’s first self-winding mechanism powered by the natural motion of the wrist. This advancement set Rolex apart in the luxury watch market, marking another significant milestone in horology.

Rolex’s drive for precision is evident in its rigorous testing processes. Every Rolex watch undergoes stringent tests for accuracy, water resistance, and endurance, earning the brand its reputation for reliability. Certified as Superlative Chronometers by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), these timepieces highlight Rolex’s dedication to exceptional performance.

Over the decades, Rolex has introduced pioneering innovations that have solidified its reputation in watchmaking. In 1945, Rolex unveiled the Datejust, the first wristwatch to display the date on the dial, marking a significant leap forward in both functionality and design. The Submariner followed in 1953 as the first dive watch to be waterproof to a depth of 100 meters, made possible by the robust Oyster case—a marvel of engineering that ensures the watch’s durability and water resistance under extreme conditions.

Rolex also revolutionized the watch bracelet with the introduction of the Oyster bracelet, known for its strength and comfort, and the Jubilee bracelet, which combines style and flexibility, offering unmatched wearability. In recent years, Rolex introduced the Oysterflex bracelet, a sophisticated combination of flexible titanium and nickel alloy metal blade covered with high-performance elastomer, providing a new level of comfort without sacrificing durability.

Today, Rolex leads the world of luxury and precision, with each watch representing a blend of cutting-edge technology and timeless design. The brand’s legacy thrives on relentless innovation, uncompromising quality, and an enduring pursuit of perfection.

Rolex’s Timeless Connection with Motorsport

In the 1930s, Sir Malcolm Campbell, the renowned British racing driver known as the “King of Speed,” forged a powerful connection between high-speed racing and precision timekeeping. On Sept. 3, 1935, at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, Campbell made history by becoming the first person to break the 300 mph barrier, reaching 301.13 mph. During this groundbreaking feat, he relied on the Rolex Oyster. This watch demonstrated remarkable resilience and accuracy under extreme conditions, marking the beginning of a lasting bond between motorsport and Rolex.

At the time of Sir Malcolm Campbell’s record-breaking feats, the Rolex Oyster was still establishing its reputation. Campbell’s choice of the Rolex Oyster during his high-speed attempts significantly contributed to proving its reliability. His successes, supported by the watch’s consistent performance during these demanding moments, played a crucial role in forging Rolex’s longstanding association with motorsport. This partnership began a deep connection between Rolex and the world of speed, precision, and endurance.

In 1959, Rolex became the official timekeeper for the newly established Daytona International Speedway, cementing its role in motorsport. This partnership eventually led to the creation of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph in 1963, later famously known as the ‘Daytona.’ The watch was designed specifically for racing drivers, featuring a tachymetric scale on the bezel that allowed drivers to measure average speed over a specific distance—a crucial function in motorsports.

The Daytona’s design and functionality made it a legend in the racing world, and its connection to the speedway secured Rolex’s place in motorsport history. The watch became an icon cherished by racing enthusiasts and collectors. Over the years, Rolex’s involvement in motorsport deepened, particularly in endurance racing.

The Rolex 24 at Daytona is a grueling 24-hour endurance race that pushes drivers and machines to their limits. In 1992, Rolex became the title sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to precision and performance. This race demands unwavering focus and high-speed consistency, with drivers rotating through shifts to keep their cars moving. The parallels between this endurance and the reliability expected from Rolex watches are clear—both are engineered to perform under pressure, whether on the track or in daily life, reflecting the brand’s dedication to durability and precision.

Endurance races like the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans challenge drivers and vehicles alike, requiring intense stamina and flawless reliability. These events demand high performance from every component, with drivers battling fatigue and maintaining focus under extreme conditions. Similarly, Rolex mechanical watches are designed to endure, keeping precise time through years of use and the rigors of daily wear. This shared commitment to enduring performance solidifies Rolex’s role in motorsport, where reliability is paramount.

Image: Rolex

Rolex expanded its involvement in endurance racing further in 2001 when it became the Official Timepiece of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the world’s most famous and challenging races. The winners of Le Mans receive a specially engraved Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, a highly coveted prize that symbolizes both endurance and excellence.

In 2016, Rolex became the Official Timepiece of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), strengthening its role in endurance racing. This partnership reflects Rolex’s support for the evolution of endurance racing and its focus on technological innovation, a value shared by the WEC.

Rolex’s Enduring Influence at Monterey Car Week and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

Monterey Car Week traces its roots to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which debuted in 1950 alongside the Pebble Beach Road Race. From modest beginnings, it has grown into the world’s most prestigious gathering of automotive artistry, attracting premier collectors, fans, and enthusiasts globally. This event honors and preserves automotive heritage, showcasing vehicles that illustrate the highest standards of design and engineering. This year, the coveted Best in Show winner receives the new Rolex 1908, a timepiece that reflects both the event’s tradition and Rolex’s enduring dedication to quality and innovation.

Image: Rolex

In 1997, Rolex became the official timepiece of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, establishing a partnership that bridges the worlds of watchmaking and automotive history. Rolex’s involvement extends to other hallmark events, such as The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

At The Quail presents a curated mix of vintage and modern vehicles in a more intimate setting, reflecting Rolex’s enduring commitment to celebrating and honoring automotive traditions.

Meanwhile, historic race cars are brought back to life on the track at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Rolex underscores the importance of authenticity and the preservation of motorsport history.

Hurley Haywood is regarded as one of the most accomplished endurance racers in history. His illustrious career includes five overall victories at the Rolex 24 at Daytona (1973, 1975, 1977, 1979, and 1991), showcasing his dominance in one of motorsport’s most grueling endurance races. In addition to his successes at Daytona, Haywood also claimed victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times (1977, 1983, and 1994), and he won the 12 Hours of Sebring twice (1973 and 1981).

Hurley Haywood at the Corkscrew of Laguna Seca

Hurley Haywood’s legendary racing career, marked by numerous victories, makes him the perfect namesake for the Hurley Haywood Trophy at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. This award honors drivers who embody Haywood’s skill and dedication, aligning with Rolex’s values of precision and performance. As a Rolex Testimonee, Haywood’s association reinforces Rolex’s commitment to motorsport excellence. Beyond his personal achievements, Haywood has mentored the next generation of drivers, sharing his knowledge and passion. The Hurley Haywood Trophy celebrates his legacy and the broader history of motorsport, further solidifying the deep connection between Rolex and the racing community.

Wrapping Up

Rolex’s presence in motorsport and classic cars goes beyond the surface, symbolizing a deep-seated commitment to precision and excellence. The brand has become synonymous with achievement and timeless craftsmanship, from its early partnership with legendary drivers to its pivotal role in events like the Rolex 24 at Daytona and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. By maintaining a balance between innovation and tradition, Rolex upholds its reputation across generations. Whether on a driver’s wrist or marking time at a prestigious event, Rolex stands as a lasting emblem of dedication to the highest standards.

For the first time in the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance history, Best of Show was awarded to a preservation car—a remarkable distinction that adds another layer to the Bugatti Type 59’s storied past. This year, 214 cars from 16 countries and 29 states pulled onto the competition field, but the 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Sports, presented by Fritz Burkard of The Pearl Collection in Zug, Switzerland, claimed the spotlight.

Concours Chairman Sandra Button highlighted the significance of this victory, noting that this particular Type 59 is a rare factory race car with multiple Grand Prix victories to its name. This car has connections to some of the greatest racing legends and even ties to royalty. What makes it even more extraordinary is that it remains preserved in the livery given to it by King Leopold of Belgium, showcasing its authentic and original character.

The Bugatti Type 59 Sports stands as a masterpiece of automotive artistry. Bugatti, renowned for its pursuit of excellence, crafted the Type 59 as a sublime blend of elegance and power. Its design exudes refined style, boasting a low-slung body, intricate wire wheels, and the distinctive growl of its 3.3-liter engine. This vehicle exemplifies the pinnacle of collaboration between engineers and designers. Its triumph as a preservation car at Pebble Beach highlights the enduring value of originality and historical authenticity in the world of classic automobiles.

A living symbol of racing legacy, this vehicle bears the marks of its illustrious history in every scuff and scratch. From its leather seats to its wooden steering wheel, each imperfection tells a story. Pre-war legends like René Dreyfus and Jean-Pierre Wimille piloted this machine through some of the most prestigious Grand Prix events of the 1930s, cementing its racing pedigree.

Later, the car found its way into the hands of King Leopold III of Belgium, who added his own touch by repainting it in his signature black and yellow livery. As the first of only six ever produced, this Type 59 Sports is a powerful reminder of Bugatti’s enduring impact on automotive history.

Throughout the years, the car has been in the care of various collectors who have all respected its original state. The current owner, Fritz Burkard, has prioritized keeping this historical piece untouched as much as possible, preserving its patina to honor its rich past. This win at Pebble Beach underscores the car’s historical importance and highlights the significance of maintaining the authenticity of classic automobiles.

The Rolex 1908, awarded to the Best of Show winner, mirrors the Bugatti’s commitment to preserving history while celebrating precision and elegance. Rolex, a brand synonymous with reliability and craftsmanship, introduced the 1908 model as a nod to its rich heritage. The 1908’s design is understated yet undeniably elegant, reflecting the brand’s focus on timeless design rather than fleeting trends. The watch’s movement, with its meticulous attention to detail, ensures that it doesn’t just tell time—it honors it.

This particular Rolex 1908 model, paired with a traditional brown alligator leather strap, is crafted in 18-karat yellow gold and features an intense white dial. The strap is distinguished by its green calfskin lining and tone-on-tone stitching, adding to its luxurious look and feel. The timepiece is also notable for its transparent sapphire case back, which reveals the intricate Caliber 7140 movement, showcasing Rolex’s dedication to precision and aesthetics. The engraving “Best of Show 2024” is discreetly placed on the Dualclasp, a double folding clasp made of 18-karat yellow gold, that sits perfectly centered on the wrist, showcasing the meticulous design and craftsmanship for which Rolex is renowned.

Earlier in the day, before the start of the Concours, Rolex was kind enough to give me a fleeting moment with the 1908, and it’s truly breathtaking. Combining classic elements with cutting-edge technology makes the Rolex 1908 a fitting award for such a prestigious event, perfectly complementing the legacy and elegance of the 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Sports.

When the Bugatti Type 59 Sports won Best of Show at the 73rd Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, it marked more than just a victory for a car—it was a recognition of the enduring appeal of something beautifully crafted. The Rolex 1908, awarded to the winner, complements this achievement perfectly, representing a piece that, like the Bugatti, is treasured for its significance and what it symbolizes.

Both the Bugatti Type 59 Sports and the Rolex 1908 showcase the pinnacle of craftsmanship from their respective eras, blending timeless elegance with cutting-edge engineering. The Bugatti, with its sleek lines and powerful engine, represents the golden age of automotive design, while the Rolex 1908 embodies the precision and sophistication of early 20th-century horology. The Onewheel Pint X delivers thrilling rides and great range but make sure its features fit your riding needs and style.

Looking for a thrilling way to navigate city streets or explore your local park? The Onewheel Pint X offers a compelling mix of excitement and practicality in personal electric vehicles. With its sleek design and robust performance, the Pint X is perfect for urban commuters and adventure enthusiasts. I was intrigued by the Onewheel experience, and the Pint X delivered the enhancements I sought, providing impressive speed and range for longer rides without frequent stops for charging. With a powerful 750W Hypercore motor that propels you up to 18 mph, this board offers a ride reminiscent of snowboarding or longboarding, making it an enticing lifestyle choice rather than just a means of transportation. If you’re ready to dive into the world of electric mobility and experience the freedom it offers, the Onewheel Pint X might be your ideal ride.

Designer: Kyle Doerksen + Onewheel

Design and Aesthetics

The Onewheel Pint X combines sleek, modern design with functionality, making it an attractive option for those seeking a stylish and portable personal electric vehicle. With dimensions of 8.75 x 10.5 x 27 inches and weighing 27 pounds, the board is compact yet robust, offering easy maneuverability in urban settings. Its minimalist aesthetic with vibrant color options lets riders express personal style while maintaining a polished look.

The integrated Lightbar on the footpad enhances the board’s futuristic design and provides practical functionality, serving as both a battery indicator and a riding alert. This thoughtful design emphasizes simplicity and ease of use, housing all components compactly while maintaining a streamlined appearance. The low center of gravity and wide tire offer excellent stability and control, making the Pint X adaptable to various terrains.

The Pint X’s design also pays homage to the original Onewheel concept while incorporating modern enhancements that cater to today’s riders. The robust aluminum frame ensures durability, while customizable color options for the bumpers and rails let riders personalize their boards to match their style. The pint-sized form factor of the Pint X doesn’t just make it easier to store and transport; it also gives it a playful, approachable aesthetic that invites riders of all levels to give it a try.

2008: Onewheel prototype 1: The first rideable prototype had a chain-driven motor and the bare essentials. Old Iron Sides is now its affectionate nickname.

Ergonomics

The Onewheel Pint X is designed with rider comfort and usability in mind, featuring a built-in Maghandle for easy carrying when not in use. This feature makes the board convenient to transport in crowded areas or up flights of stairs. Riding the Onewheel is the most fun I’ve had since my teens, popping wheelies on my BMX bike. While there is a learning curve, many new riders find it manageable with practice. The board’s intuitive control system uses pressure-sensitive footpads for smooth acceleration and braking, mimicking natural movements. At the heart of this system is a combination of sensors, including a Hall Effect sensor and an accelerometer. These sensors interpret your body’s movements and translate them into seamless control, making the ride feel intuitive and responsive. This allows riders to accelerate by leaning forward and decelerate by leaning back, creating a natural and engaging riding experience.

For beginners, the Simple Stop feature is particularly beneficial. It allows the rider to come to a gradual stop by leaning back, reducing the risk of falls and helping build confidence. The wide tire is surprisingly responsive, allowing for nimble turns and adjustments to posture. Riders are advised to start practicing in open areas like parking lots or grassy fields and to wear shoes with good grip for better control and stability. Regular practice helps strengthen stabilizer muscles, making rides smoother and more comfortable over time.

Performance

Curiosity about the Onewheel experience led me to try out the Pint X, which promised enhancements in speed and range. The Pint X offers a perfect balance between power and agility, making it an exciting upgrade. With a 750W Hypercore motor, the board reaches a top speed of 18 mph, providing a thrilling ride whether commuting through the city or exploring parks. The range of 12 to 18 miles on a single charge is a significant improvement, allowing for longer adventures without constant recharging.

Riding the Pint X feels liberating, as the increased speed and range mean I no longer need to plan my routes meticulously or worry about running out of battery mid-ride. The powerful motor also delivers extra torque, making the board more responsive when changing directions. The Onewheel relies on a rate gyroscope, which helps maintain balance by measuring orientation and angle changes. This technology ensures stability even as you navigate challenging terrains, making it easier to learn and control. While initially a bit “squirrely,” the wide tire quickly becomes second nature, allowing for smooth and agile turns.

The Onewheel Pint X features four customizable riding modes, or Digital Shaping modes, that can be adjusted through the Onewheel app to match your riding style:

Redwood: Offers a smooth ride with a top speed of approximately 12 mph, ideal for leisurely rides and where I felt most comfortable starting as a beginner.

Pacific X: A relaxed mode that balances speed and control, quickly becoming my second favorite, making it easy to handle for a more casual experience.
Elevated X: Raises the front of the board, helping you tackle steep inclines or perform tricks with greater ease.
Skyline X: A responsive mode with a maximum speed of about 18 mph, providing an adrenaline-pumping experience.

From the moment I started riding, the Pint X’s performance was apparent. The speed and handling capabilities offered an adrenaline rush with every ride, making it easy to lose track of time while exploring. The improved range means I can focus on the ride rather than constantly checking the battery level.

However, the performance improvements come with a few trade-offs. The thicker front bumper, intended for symmetry, sometimes drags during sharp turns or when recovering from drops. It reduces ground clearance, causing occasional nosedives and making curb navigation tricky. The extra weight of the board, while not drastic, does impact its agility, making it feel less snappy during tight turns. The shared tire with the regular Pint feels less secure at higher speeds, requiring constant vigilance to avoid bumps and obstacles that could cause a wipeout.

Sustainability

While sustainability isn’t heavily marketed, the Pint X is built with durability in mind, using high-quality materials to ensure longevity. This reduces the need for frequent replacements, supporting a more sustainable approach to personal transportation. Manufactured in the U.S., the Pint X aligns with sustainable practices by ensuring quality control and minimizing the carbon footprint associated with overseas shipping.

Value and Verdict

At the time of this review, the Onewheel Pint X is available at a starting price of $1,100, making it a more accessible option in the electric skateboard market. Despite this competitive price, the board offers exceptional performance, durability, and versatility. The Pint X has become a staple for many riders, providing a blend of speed, range, and portability that’s difficult to find elsewhere.

The Pint X offers a compelling package for those seeking an exhilarating ride experience. The powerful hub motor allows riders to glide through traffic with ease, while the electric transmission system eliminates the need for gear shifting. The wide deck provides excellent traction and stability, securely holding the rider’s feet in place, whether navigating sharp turns, tackling hills or speeding along sidewalks. The puncture-resistant liner on the wheel enhances safety, making it a reliable choice for long-distance travel on rough trails.

However, potential buyers should be aware of a few considerations. The Pint X is not waterproof, so exposure to water can damage the battery and affect motor functionality. The fixed acceleration might be too intense for some users who prefer customizable speed settings. Additionally, while competitively priced, the Pint X still represents a significant investment compared to other e-boards with similar features.

Is the Onewheel Pint X the right fit for you? If you’re looking to embrace the thrill of one-wheel riding while enjoying the convenience and innovation that the board offers, it could be an excellent choice. We’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences with the Pint X. With its thoughtful design, ergonomic comfort, and impressive performance, it remains a top choice in the personal electric vehicle market. Will Volkswagen’s ID. GTI Electrify the Passion of GTI Enthusiasts?

This Mobile Monday, we’re taking a look at how the Volkswagen GTI is moving into the electric era with the new ID. GTI. This marks a big change for Volkswagen, as it combines the GTI’s beloved legacy with electric power. The ID. GTI brings a fresh take on a classic favorite, capturing the spirit of the original GTI while incorporating the latest electric technology.

Designer: Volkswagen

When comparing the sketches of the new and old Volkswagen ID GTI EV, several key design elements stand out. These elements showcase the model’s transformation into a modern electric vehicle while still retaining iconic features that pay homage to its heritage. The new design adopts current trends like minimalist aesthetics and integrated technology features yet retains enough classic elements to be recognizable as a GTI. This approach caters to long-time fans while appealing to new customers looking for a modern, eco-friendly vehicle.

Design Evolution:

Front Fascia: The traditional GTI is known for its straightforward, functional design with a simple grille and prominent GTI badge. Classic round headlights reinforce its sporty yet retro appeal. In contrast, the electric ID GTI showcases a much sleeker front end. The grille is minimized to reflect the reduced cooling requirements of electric vehicles and integrates seamlessly into the headlights, creating a futuristic look. The GTI badge remains prominent, placed on a narrow light strip that connects the headlights, enhancing its modern appeal.

Headlights: The old model features the classic round headlights that have been symbolic of the GTI models, emphasizing an iconic and functional design. The new model adopts angular LED headlights that stretch across the width of the car, complementing the electric aesthetic. This updates its appearance and likely improves illumination efficiency, a nod to both form and function in modern vehicle design.

Body Lines: Older GTI models sport more pronounced, sharper body lines, giving the car a more aggressive stance typical of hot hatches. In contrast, smooth, flowing body lines dominate the new model, suggesting a design optimized for aerodynamics, which is crucial for improving the efficiency of electric vehicles. The smoother silhouette helps reduce drag and increase range, aligning with the needs of an EV.

Rear Design: Traditional tail lights and a clear, simple rear bumper design echo the utilitarian, performance-focused ethos of past GTIs. The new model features a futuristic approach with a full-width light bar at the rear, a popular trend in modern vehicle design. This distinguishes it as a contemporary model and enhances visibility for following vehicles.

The overall design philosophy of the ID. GTI reflects Volkswagen’s focus on merging the GTI’s rich heritage with the future of electric mobility. The vehicle respects its roots yet is boldly forward-looking, encapsulating the essence of what a modern hot hatch should be in the era of electric vehicles.

Performance is a key area where the ID. GTI aims to shine. Volkswagen enhances the driving experience with an upgraded suspension and chassis, promising to surpass the capabilities of its gasoline predecessors. According to Thomas Schäfer, a top executive at Volkswagen, the ID. GTI will offer an even more exciting driving experience than current models, aiming to provide not just speed but a truly engaging ride. A unique feature of the ID. GTI is the “GTI e-sound,” which simulates the traditional engine roar through speakers, preserving the emotional appeal of the GTI’s driving experience despite the absence of a conventional engine. This feature is designed to maintain the visceral thrill associated with GTI driving, even as the car transitions to electric power.

Andreas Mindt Head of Volkswagen Design

Volkswagen aims to deliver an exciting and dynamic driving experience with the new ID. GTI. This version merges the speed and handling that GTI enthusiasts love with innovative electric features. By combining tradition with cutting-edge technology, Volkswagen ensures that the excitement and quality associated with the GTI name continue to thrive in today’s rapidly changing automotive world.

EDITOR'S QUOTE:

Galaxy Buds 3 Pro deliver stellar sound and noise cancellation, redefining what wireless earbuds can achieve in any environment.

Samsung’s Galaxy Buds3 Pro has made a strong entrance with its stylish stem design and practical features. These earbuds offer a powerful audio experience thanks to a dual-driver system that delivers clear highs and deep bass, making them perfect for music lovers. The ergonomic silicone tips ensure a snug fit, providing comfort during long listening sessions, and their IP57 rating adds protection against water and dust, making them great for active users.

Designer: Samsung

Packed with smart features, these buds include AI-powered sound adjustments that adapt to your environment, enhancing your listening experience. The real-time translation feature is a handy tool for travelers and language enthusiasts. While some features work best with Samsung’s latest devices, the Buds 3 Pro offers a strong mix of style, technology, and sound quality. Whether you’re on a call, streaming music, or navigating through your day, these earbuds are built to meet the needs of everyday life.

Design and Aesthetics

The Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro embraces a design that marries functionality with elegance. The stem-style structure enhances usability and audio performance by incorporating advanced components like control sensors and batteries within the stems, contributing to superior sound quality and call clarity.

The customizable “blade lights” on the stems offer a neat and stylish feature, but they may not appeal to everyone looking for simplicity. While the lighting adds flair, my focus remains on sound quality, comfort, and overall performance. The lights are a nice touch but not a critical factor in choosing these earbuds.

The ergonomic design ensures a comfortable fit, with silicone tips that improve noise isolation and enhance sound quality. With an IP57 rating, these earbuds are reliable for various environments, whether you’re at the gym or exploring outdoors. We’ll explore the performance aspects further down, diving into how these features impact real-world use and contribute to the overall listening experience.

From a design perspective, there are limited ways to create Bluetooth headsets. They can fit directly in the ear or include a stem, as seen in the Buds3 Pro. This design is practical, enhancing usability by allowing better placement of components like microphones and batteries.

While the Buds 3 Pro’s design draws inspiration from other successful models, the inclusion of unique features like customizable lighting and advanced audio technology sets these earbuds apart. They offer a compelling combination of high performance and style, making them attractive for those who value both aesthetics and functionality in their wireless audio gear.

Ergonomics

From my perspective, the design of the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro case has its pros and cons. I like that the case is lightweight and features practical additions like a USB-C charging port and an LED indicator for charging status. The transparent lid is also a nice touch, allowing me to see the earbuds without opening the case.

However, inserting and removing the earbuds can be awkward. They require a specific twist to fit properly, which isn’t the most user-friendly experience, especially when I’m on the go. I’ve actually dropped the earbuds a couple of times, twice on an airplane while fumbling around in the dark. It’s definitely not ideal. This is an area where the design could use some improvement to make handling the earbuds more intuitive and prevent such mishaps.

The earbuds are offered in two colors, white and black, with small red and blue dots to help indicate the correct placement in the case. While this color coding is helpful, it doesn’t completely resolve the awkwardness of fitting the earbuds into the case.

One thing I wish was smaller is the case itself. While it’s compact enough to fit in the coin pocket of my jeans, similar to the AirPods Pro case, it does bulge out more than I’d like. A smaller case would be more convenient for carrying around when I’m out and about.

Despite these concerns, the overall design remains stylish, and the case complements the sleek look of the earbuds. It supports wireless charging, which is a plus, but streamlining the handling and size of the case would greatly enhance the overall experience.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro delivers exceptional audio quality, particularly when paired with newer Samsung devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or S24 series. Featuring a two-way speaker system with a planar tweeter and dual amplifiers, these earbuds provide crisp, airy sound with robust bass. The 360 Audio feature enhances the soundstage, creating an immersive experience, although it can sometimes emphasize higher frequencies.

A key feature that enhances the audio experience is Samsung’s Scalable Codec. This codec adjusts the bit rate dynamically to ensure stable audio quality over Bluetooth connections. It provides near-lossless sound when the connection is strong, making it ideal for high-resolution audio playback on compatible Samsung devices.

The noise-canceling capabilities are impressive, offering Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Adaptive Noise Control, and Ambient Sound modes. ANC effectively reduces background noise, making it easier to enjoy music without distractions. Ambient mode is handy for staying aware of your surroundings while listening, and adaptive mode adjusts noise cancellation based on the environment. During my flight to Tokyo from Dallas and back, the active noise cancellation canceled out nearly all the humming from the engine, making the journey pleasant. Just note that for long-haul flights, you might need two pairs of earbuds. In my case, I had a pair of AirPods Pro to swap out. That said, I dare say the Buds3 Pro is competitive when it comes to sound quality and noise cancellation.

The sound quality of the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro truly shines across various musical genres. In “Hotel California” by the Eagles, the earbuds reproduce the intricate guitar work with remarkable clarity, allowing you to hear every detail as if you’re right there at the performance. The Buds3 Pro handles Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” with precision, capturing the sharpness and detail in his vocals and ensuring the instrumental elements are delivered with crystal clarity. When it comes to bass-heavy tracks like “Royals” by Lorde, the earbuds provide a strong yet balanced bass response that complements the vocals without overshadowing them. The complex musical arrangement in “Take Five” by The Dave Brubeck Quartet showcases the Buds3 Pro’s ability to maintain clarity and balance across a wide range of frequencies, with the piano and saxophone lines coming through with excellent definition and depth.

The Buds3 Pro excels in call quality as well. The triple-mic array ensures clear voice transmission even in noisy settings, while the transparency mode allows ambient noise to enter naturally during calls, enhancing the conversation experience.

Battery life is an area where expectations might differ. Samsung claims up to 6 hours of playback with ANC on and up to 30 hours with the charging case. However, real-world usage often shows battery life closer to 5 to 5.5 hours with ANC, 360 Audio, and high-resolution streaming enabled. Wireless charging and quick charging capabilities add convenience, but for extended listening sessions, having a backup or access to charging is advisable.

The Buds3 Pro also impresses with its sweat-proof performance. I’ve used them to mow the yard in 100-degree weather, and they remain in my ears exceptionally well without any issues with performance. Their IP57 rating ensures they can handle both sweat and dust, making them a reliable choice for outdoor activities and workouts.

Compared to the standard Galaxy Buds 3, the Buds 3 Pro offers enhanced audio quality, more advanced noise control options, and longer battery life. While the non-Pro model provides good sound and basic ANC, it lacks the Pro version’s premium features and audio experience.

Overall, the Buds3 Pro is impressive in performance, making it a top choice for anyone in search of high-quality wireless earbuds with a rich, immersive sound experience.

Sustainability

Samsung has integrated sustainability into the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro by using post-consumer materials in their construction, which helps reduce the environmental impact of new plastic production. The company is committed to increasing the use of recycled materials across its product line, aiming to incorporate them into every component by 2030 as part of its goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions.

The packaging for the Buds3 Pro is also made from recycled paper, which aligns with Samsung’s sustainability initiatives and helps further reduce waste. These efforts demonstrate Samsung’s dedication to creating products that combine advanced technology with environmental responsibility.

Value and Verdict

For anyone within the Samsung ecosystem, the Galaxy Buds3 Pro is an easy recommendation. These earbuds integrate seamlessly with a wide range of Samsung products, including smartphones like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and S24 series and Samsung tablets, laptops, and other smart devices. They offer features like adaptive noise cancellation and enhanced audio quality through Samsung’s Scalable Codec, making them an ideal companion for any Samsung device. This integration allows for smooth transitions between devices and enhances the overall user experience, making the Buds3 Pro a perfect choice for those who rely on Samsung’s ecosystem for their tech needs.

Even if you’re not part of the Samsung ecosystem, the Buds3 Pro is worth considering. They are compatible with any Bluetooth-enabled device and deliver exceptional sound quality, noise cancellation, and a comfortable fit, making them a versatile choice for all users. I enjoy having them as part of my everyday gear, whether in my go-bag for travel or daily use. Their performance and reliability make them a great addition to any tech setup, offering high-quality audio and convenience wherever you go.

The Enduring Legacy of the Adidas Samba: A Synthesis of Style, Sport, and Innovation

Welcome to Sneakers Sunday at Yanko Design. Today, we explore the storied evolution of the Adidas Samba. Originally designed in 1950, this iconic shoe has served athletes with its functional design while also becoming a staple in global fashion and culture. The Samba’s journey from a functional soccer shoe to a fashion icon offers a fascinating look at how design can adapt to changing times while retaining its core essence.

Designer: Adi Dassler + ADIDAS

Origins and Early Design

The Samba was born out of necessity in post-war Germany, where harsh winters created challenging conditions for soccer players. Adi Dassler, the founder of Adidas, recognized the need for a shoe that could offer traction on icy surfaces. His solution was the Samba, a shoe that featured a revolutionary gum rubber sole providing superior grip and traction. This innovation set Samba apart from other athletic footwear and marked the beginning of its iconic status.

Alongside its functional sole, the Samba boasted a durable leather upper with Adidas’s signature three stripes, adding structural integrity and visual appeal. This combination of practicality and style made the Samba an instant hit on and off the field. The initial design laid the foundation for a versatile shoe that could transition seamlessly from sports to fashion.

The early Samba models also included a high-top variant, which offered additional ankle support and warmth, making it particularly popular in colder climates. This version retained the classic elements of the original while providing an added layer of functionality, broadening the shoe’s appeal beyond the athletic community. The high-top Samba was especially favored by soccer players who needed extra protection during harsh weather, demonstrating Adidas’s commitment to meeting the diverse needs of its customers.

Evolution Through the Decades

As the decades passed, the Samba underwent significant transformations to keep pace with changing trends and consumer preferences. In the 1960s and 1970s, Adidas began experimenting with new materials and colorways to expand the Samba’s appeal beyond its original sports market. The introduction of softer leathers and synthetic fabrics enhanced the shoe’s comfort and durability, making it more suitable for casual wear.

This period also saw the Samba embracing a broader color palette, moving beyond the traditional black and white to include a variety of vibrant hues and patterns. These changes reflected the growing influence of fashion on athletic footwear, as consumers increasingly sought shoes that combined performance with personal style. The Samba’s ability to adapt to these shifts while retaining its core design elements cemented its status as a timeless classic.

In addition to material innovations, the Samba’s design also evolved to reflect the changing needs of its audience. The high-top version, for instance, gained popularity in urban settings, where its stylish silhouette and practical features made it a favorite among fashion-forward individuals. This adaptability helped the Samba maintain its relevance in a rapidly changing market as it continued to capture the imagination of new generations.

Cultural Impact and Global Reach

The Samba’s appeal extended far beyond the soccer field, becoming a symbol of youth and rebellion across the globe. In the 1980s, the shoe was embraced by various subcultures, from hip-hop enthusiasts to skaters, each group adding its own chapter to the Samba’s rich history. Its simple yet striking design made it a popular choice for those looking to make a statement, whether on the dance floor or the streets.

This widespread adoption across diverse cultures and continents underscored the Samba’s universal appeal. Its ability to transcend boundaries and resonate with people from all walks of life highlighted its versatility and timeless charm. The Samba maintained its identity while adapting to myriad personal styles, whether paired with jeans and a T-shirt or more formal attire.

The Samba’s influence also extended to the music and entertainment world, where it became a fixture in popular culture. Celebrities and musicians alike were drawn to the shoe’s unique blend of functionality and fashion, further solidifying its status as an icon. The Samba’s presence in films, music videos, and on the feet of influential figures helped cement its place in the cultural zeitgeist, ensuring its continued relevance in the ever-evolving fashion world.

Recent Collaborations and Innovations

In recent years, Adidas has leveraged collaborations to keep the Samba at the forefront of the fashion industry. Partnerships with designers and fashion houses have introduced new versions of the shoe that maintain its classic elements while incorporating modern design trends and materials. These collaborations have breathed new life into the Samba, attracting a new generation of fans and reinforcing its status as a fashion icon.

One notable collaboration is with Copenhagen-based fashion brand Naked, which reimagined the Samba with intricate lace details and soft, pastel overlays. This partnership highlights the sneaker’s adaptability to current fashion trends and ability to blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design elements. These limited-edition models incorporate luxurious materials and subtle design tweaks, such as co-branded tongues and custom lace tags, making each release a collectible piece.

Adidas has also focused on sustainability, integrating eco-friendly materials into the Samba’s design. This commitment ensures the shoe remains popular among environmentally conscious consumers without sacrificing style or quality. By embracing sustainable practices and innovative materials, Adidas is preserving the Samba’s legacy and paving the way for future generations of this iconic shoe.

The Adidas Samba’s journey from a functional sports shoe to a cultural icon is a testament to its timeless design and enduring appeal. Its continuous adaptation and relevance in the sneaker industry testify to its lasting legacy and broad appeal. As we look to the future, the Samba will continue to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide, cementing its place in the annals of sneaker history.

Rolex Perpetual 1908: The 2024 Platinum Model with Ice Blue Dial

The Rolex Perpetual 1908 brings a fresh perspective to the brand’s tradition of dress watches. Since its founding in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf, Rolex has been a hallmark of precision, innovation, and elegance in watchmaking. The Perpetual 1908 continues this legacy, merging classic elements with modern sophistication. The latest model for 2024 introduces new materials and design refinements, ensuring it remains at the forefront of luxury timepieces.

Designer: Rolex

This model captures Rolex’s original boldness. Since the brand’s inception, Rolex has pursued Wilsdorf’s vision of wristwatches as high-performance instruments. This watch combines chronometric precision, waterproofness, autonomy, comfort, and durability. It embodies the classic yet modern spirit of the original Oyster Perpetual watches, with a silhouette and dial design that reimagines these timeless elements.

Initially available in 18-karat yellow gold and white gold, paired with either an intense white or matte black dial, the latest update introduces a new 950 platinum version. This version features an ice blue dial exclusive to Rolex watches in this prestigious metal. The case measures 39 mm, balancing presence and comfort on the wrist. The bezel combines domed and fluted design, adding elegance without ostentation. The transparent case back reveals the intricate workings of the movement, showcasing the brand’s commitment to aesthetics and performance.

The dials for the Perpetual 1908 include intense white, matte black, and now an ice blue with a guilloche rice-grain motif. This intricate pattern is created through traditional guillochage, reflecting light beautifully. The dial features Arabic numerals at 3, 9, and 12, with faceted index hour markers in 18-karat gold. The small seconds counter at 6 o’clock is centered within the rice-grain motif, enhancing the dial’s sophisticated look.

The hands are distinctive, with the minute hand shaped like a two-edged sword and the hour hand featuring a pierced circle. These elements blend historical inspiration with modern elegance, maintaining the watch’s refined aesthetic.

At the heart of the Perpetual 1908 is the caliber 7140, a self-winding movement developed in-house by Rolex’s watchmaking engineers. This movement drives the hands of the central hours and minutes and the small seconds hand at 6 o’clock. It incorporates several of Rolex’s cutting-edge technologies, including the Syloxi silicon hairspring and the Chronergy escapement made of a nickel-phosphorus alloy, both resistant to strong magnetic fields. The movement also features Paraflex shock absorbers, protecting the oscillator and escape wheel from shocks. With a power reserve of 66 hours, the caliber 7140 combines performance and elegance. Patents have been filed for this movement, entirely developed and manufactured in-house.

The 2024 model features an ice blue dial decorated with a rice-grain motif, achieved through guillochage. This rosette-like design, centered on the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock, gives the watch exceptional personality and is a tribute to traditional watchmaking infused with Rolex’s know-how and creativity.

The 950 platinum case, a rare and precious material, is striking for its incomparable radiance and silvery white glow. Considered the noblest of metals, it is noted for its exceptional corrosion resistance. The case has gracious lines and a transparent back that allows the refined aesthetics of the movement and the pivoting of the oscillating weight to be admired.

By offering a watch that reveals its movement through a transparent case back, Rolex continues to innovate while echoing its watchmaking tradition. The caliber 7140 features a cut-out oscillating weight in yellow gold with three arms engraved with the words “Chronometer Perpetual” and benefits from an optimized ball bearing. The movement boasts remarkable finishes, including the exclusive Rolex Côtes de Genève, a celebrated traditional watch decoration reinterpreted with a polished groove between each band. The sapphire window, virtually scratchproof, proves that for Rolex, the aesthetics of the movement are as important as its performance.

Introducing the Perpetual 1908 signifies a new direction for Rolex dress watches, blending the brand’s rich heritage with modern innovation. By launching the Perpetual collection and retiring the Cellini line, Rolex reaffirms its commitment to creating technically superior and timelessly elegant timepieces. This model sets a new standard for dress watches, combining historical elements with contemporary design and cutting-edge technology.

Future Rolex dress watches will continue to explore the balance between classic aesthetics and modern advancements. The transparent case back, showcasing the movement, indicates a willingness to innovate while honoring traditional watchmaking artistry. The movement’s use of advanced materials and technologies highlights Rolex’s dedication to performance and durability.

The Perpetual 1908 captures the essence of Rolex’s pursuit of excellence, blending past and future in a luxurious timepiece that speaks to the brand’s storied history and its vision for the future of dress watches.
