We love a few menacing automotive designs—whether they’re powerful cars or sleek and fast e-scooters. In August, we saw an avalanche of fast, super cool, and one-of-a-kind automotive designs at Yanko Design. From killer speed to dashing good looks to impenetrable safety standards, every vehicle we featured at YD broke some design barrier for us, and hopefully, they did the same for you. Hence, we’ve curated a collection of automotive designs that we feel were the best of the lot. From NASCAR’s first electric racecar to a unique electric motor with a pedal drive—these automotive designs are a pleasure to see!

1. Twike 5

Designed by automaker TWIKE GmbH, the Twike 5 is a pedal hybrid vehicle intended for those who want a sustainable mode of transportation. It is a three-wheel trike, equipped with one wheel in the front and two at the back. This innovative vehicle combines an electric motor with a pedal drive. It is a two-seat trike, weighing around 600 kilograms, and it can reach speeds of up to 190 kilometers per hour. It can travel up to 500 kilometers on a single charge.

2. Pure x McLaren Special Edition E-Scooter

Designed by Pure Electric, this is an official McLaren edition e-scooter. This e-scooter is designed to change urban transport for good. It is a foldable commuter with electric motor power and an improved range. It features the signature papaya color and a deep black finish. It offers 710 watts of peak power for enhanced acceleration, as well as better performance on hills. It can cover a range of 31 miles on a full charge, which is great if you’re someone who commutes the city in one go.

 3. Xpeng AeroHT eVTOL Flying Car

Called the Xpeng AeroHT eVTOL Flying Car, this eVTOL flying car is designed and developed by the AeroHT electric aviation wing of the Chinese auto company XPeng. Unlike most traditional ideas found on the market, this modular flying car has a unique and different approach, featuring a two-part design—one part car and the other an eVTOL, allowing it to seamlessly switch between land and aerial modes.

4. NASCAR Electric Racecar Prototype

NASCAR debuted their first prototype electric racecar at the Chicago Street Race. The car’s limit was tested at the Martinsville Speedway in Virginia, and it is just two-tenths away from the average time of a V8-powered NASCAR racer. The electric racer is amped with twice the acceleration and commendable braking ability, but its weight causes limitations on the corners, as it cannot go faster. Currently, the vehicle is being tested as much as possible without damaging any of the hardware.

5. The MP4/4 Special Edition E-scooter

Pure Electric designed the MP4/4 Special Edition e-scooter, inspired by the form of the McLaren team’s Formula 1 car driven by Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. The e-scooter is amped with speedy performance and showcases the famous color-blocked red and white livery. It delivers a stable, sturdy, and controlled e-ride experience, powered by a 710W peak power output and a 31 mph range. It is an excellent ride for hill climbing and acceleration, as it doesn’t consume too much battery power.

Bandit9 Motors’ EVE Odyssey motorcycle stunned us last year with a bullet-shaped spacecraft-grade aluminum body straight out of the Star Wars universe. The Vietnam-based company incepted by Daryl Villanueva is in a league of its own with futuristic builds that have an element of industrial influence.

The latest from their workshop is the improved version of the EVE Odyssey. Daryl and his team have facelifted the bullet-shaped bike into one that is more like a 9mm sniper rifle bullet. To top it all, the new version is bigger, lighter, faster and more durable than its predecessor. The EVE Odyssey is a huge team effort, and I could not be more proud of the people who made it possible. My only wish is that they’re equally proud of the work they’ve done. In my opinion, this is the best piece we’ve ever done, and I think it’s just the beginning,’ Daryl says.

Designer: Bandit Motors

Now the fuel tank of the peculiar motorbike is fused to the high-strength 7075 aluminum frame with a flowing single-sided swingarm originating from the body. For a minimalistic form, the exhaust system is hidden in the body frame. The new EVE Odyssey model gets a hand-brushed steel emblem crafted out of a single billet. Better stability in the new version comes with the monoshock upgrade. That makes this mean machine more agile while taking corners. The front fork which is a part of the suspension system is something out of a modern art sculpture. Not only is it eye candy but also functional since bumps and rough roads are much more comfortable to navigate now.

EVE Odyssey 2.0 version is powered by a 125cc engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission, hurling it to a top speed of 68 mph. Bandit promises a range of 156 mpg which is impressive but driving conditions will play a part in tweaking this value. Just like the predecessor, the new model has a lot of custom parts that make up the final build. It’s got aluminum grips, levers and switches, steel clip-on handlebar, wide rear-view mirrors and LED headlights. For ease of use, the conventional gas cap is replaced with a magnetic one.

This time around the design team has ditched the traditional dials with digital speedometer for showing all the vital riding information. The control switches get a swanky upgrade as they seem more like a bracelet. Truly handmade, the motorcycle takes 3 months to craft from scratch to the brilliant final form. If you stop thinking of the HoloBike as a bike and start thinking of it as a massive gaming controller, it all makes sense. Instead of pressing a forward button or left and right to turn, you cycle and steer to progress in the virtual space. It’s an innovative bridge between the rigor of exercise and the fun of gaming and exploration, but in the comfort of your house. Most exercise equipment leaves you staring at walls or at small displays with stats – the HoloBike immerses you in an environment that you can cycle around, letting you choose your trail.

“When I’m riding outdoors, I can go for 3 hours just absorbed in that captivating rhythm of moving through space. But even 10 minutes training on a stationary bike feels painfully monotonous. That phenomenon of time dilation is fascinating. The hyper-minimalist design of the HoloBike is thanks to LAYER Design, which helped bring a clean aesthetic to the exercise equipment, making it look like something from the future. The spin bike comes with a floor-standing design but a black and white color-way and clean surfaces. A metal disc at the back encases the gear system while pedals on the front let you move. Orange details found around the bike’s frame let you adjust its shape to suit your ergonomics, and a large 4K display gives you glasses-free 3D so you can immerse yourself in your new world as you cycle.

The technology used by the HoloBike is similar to the glasses-free 3D screens seen in some niche smartphones across the last decade (remember the RED Phone?). The bike comes equipped with a sizeable 27-inch LCD screen outputting 4K resolution – but look closer and the screen has a lenticular film on it, comprising thousands of micro-lenses that create a left and right channel for your eyes, sort of like those holographic posters or sports cards. This effectively allows your eyes to sense depth by seeing two separate images, creating an immersive world that doesn’t require glasses or strapping a headset to your face. A soundbar right beneath it further enhances the immersive experience, transporting you to a new place.

The result is far superior to some crummy game you’d play on a laptop. As much as Saga Holographics (the company behind the bike) is an exercise company, it’s a spatial reality company too – every single environment offered by the HoloBike is designed from scratch using actual photogrammetric scans of trees, logs, leaves, bushes, roads, signs, etc. The virtual world is a reconstruction of the real world, using a combination of procedural rendering and AI advancements to help render out the entire experience in a way that feels hyperrealistic.

The stationary bike comes with adjustable wheels that let you move it around your house before locking it in place.

The bicycle itself is also fine-tuned to be a state-of-the-art exercise device. You can control the dashboard using buttons on the handlebars, setting your scene and pre-programming your routine. The bicycle’s proportions can be adjusted, letting you shift the handlebars up or down, move the seat forward or backward, or even adjust the seat’s height. Electromagnetic resistance lets you mimic real-life cycling experiences like gear shifts, or going uphill/downhill. A polymer drivetrain helps enable silent pedaling so all you can hear is the sound coming from the display in front of you, and your own breath as you work out.

The HoloBike has an impressive amount of tech inside it, with an AI-ready chipset that powers the 3D VR experience, a holographic display, and all the features of a cutting-edge spin bike or exercise bike without any of the monotony of regular home gym equipment, or the sneaky monthly fees of a Peloton. Audi has partnered with the Italian brand Fantic to launch a limited edition electric mountain bike (eMTB), combining the best of automotive engineering and e-bike technology. This collaboration reflects Audi’s deep-rooted motorsport heritage and Fantic’s 50-year legacy in motorcycle excellence, offering a robust option for trail enthusiasts and urban riders alike.

The eMTB is inspired by Audi’s Dakar Rally-winning RS Q e-tron, incorporating its high-performance DNA into a bike designed for extreme environments. The frame, made from lightweight aluminum, ensures agility and responsiveness, making it suitable for the most challenging terrains. It features a sleek design that’s functional and also visually appealing, echoing the aesthetics of Audi’s pioneering racing models.

Powering the Audi eMTB is the Brose S-MAG motor, known for its seamless, natural pedaling feel and robust output of 250 watts continuous and 565 watts peak power. This motor, complemented by a 720-watt-hour Fantic Integra battery, provides substantial range, theoretically allowing riders up to six hours of riding time at moderate power usage. This combination is ideal for long, adventurous rides where efficiency and reliability are paramount.

There are four levels of electrical assistance—Eco, Tour, Sport, and Boost—each tailored to different riding conditions and preferences. Eco mode is calibrated to deliver maximum efficiency and range, offering substantial electrical assistance for extended rides. Tour mode provides a significant boost and is suitable for varied terrains. Sport mode adds powerful assistance tailored for dynamic cycling, and Boost mode, the most powerful setting, delivers maximum electrical assistance ideal for tackling steep climbs. The level of assistance and the bike’s speed can reach up to 20 mph, with an estimated battery range between 12 and 90 miles, depending on the terrain, rider weight, and chosen level of assist.

The bike’s performance is further enhanced by its class-leading Öhlins suspension system, featuring a TTX22m.2 coil rear shock and RXF38 m.2 fork. This setup mirrors World Cup downhill bike specifications, ensuring smooth handling and effective shock absorption on rough trails. The inclusion of high-end Braking 4 piston hydraulic disc brakes guarantees that riders can manage high speeds safely and comfortably.

Fantic XEF 1.9 Factory enduro e-bike vs. World Cup downhill spec cross-country bikes

When comparing World Cup downhill spec cross-country bikes with the Fantic XEF 1.9 Factory enduro e-bike, several similarities stand out:

• Advanced Suspension: Both types of bikes use high-performance suspension to handle rough terrains. While XC bikes now commonly feature up to 120mm of travel, the Fantic XEF 1.9 goes further with a 190mm RockShox ZEB fork for even tougher trails.

It is classified as a Class 1 e-bike, which means it assists up to 20 mph and is permissible on a variety of bike trails, ensuring compliance with most local regulations.
