Marble kitchen counters and tabletops will charge your phone while you work

Par : JC Torres
15 janvier 2025 à 16:20

Wireless charging didn’t just free us from the tyranny of tangles, it also opened the doors to creative charger designs. Especially with the addition of magnetic force, chargers no longer needed to be stuck to walls or power outlets or even lie flat on charging beds. Of course, these still required the presence of often very conspicuous chargers that may look out of place in some situations, no matter how aesthetic they might be.

Some furniture makers have started integrating wireless charging into their designs but often end up making the areas too obvious, clashing with the otherwise minimalist and luxurious design of the product. This wireless charging innovation, in contrast, is almost completely invisible, save for a very subtle and elegant halo of light enclosing the charging area. In fact, this technology can be integrated into an equally innovative and sustainable stone-like material that transforms kitchen countertops and luxurious tables into futuristic charging spaces for phones.

Designer: Cosentino x FreePower

Imagine going to a bar and never having to worry about your phone dying. Simply put your mobile device down in front of you and have it charge while you sip your martini and make connections with the people around you. Or how about placing your phone on the kitchen table while you prepare dinner and listen to your favorite podcast, confident that your phone’s battery will be full by the time you’re done? All of this without a single wireless charger that stands out like a sore thumb.

FreePower’s technology was already making these James Bond-like scenarios a reality by integrating the wireless charging components in places you’d least expect them, specifically materials like marble and stone that you’d hardly expect to have embedded chargers. Its partnership with Cosentino, however, adds another twist to that dreamy technology, making it available on materials that are both luxurious and sustainable.

Cosentino’s Silestone, for example, is a low-silica mineral surface that uses recycled materials to reduce the amount of crystallized silica used. Dekton, on the other hand, mimics the appearance and texture of porcelain while using carbon-neutral materials that also help improve its durability and scratch resistance. Both materials are also produced using sustainable processes that don’t sacrifice the planet’s health in the name of luxury.

The collaboration between FreePower and Cosentino opens a new avenue for integrating convenient wireless charging spaces into luxurious but sustainable surfaces that can be used in kitchens, bathrooms, bars, conference tables, and even desks. The only drawback to this ideal situation is that these pieces of furniture have to be custom made, as retrofitting existing counters and tabletops is not yet possible at this time.

Salt and pepper shakers take center stage in artistic exhibition

Par : Ida Torres
10 décembre 2024 à 15:20

Sometimes it’s the most mundane, every day objects that give the most creative designers the inspiration to make pretty unique works of art. The salt and pepper shakers are probably things we’ve taken for granted but the origins of these two essential table objects were pretty important as salt was essential in preserving food and pepper was considered a “prize luxury” back in the day.

Designers: DECODE

A group of 60 Mexican designers have created a group exhibition called Sal & Pimienta that displays their own interpretations of the salt and pepper shaker. Aside from the creativity steeped in cultural and social aesthetics of Mexico, the creatively designed interpretations of these essentials invite people to understand the deep meanings the artist wants to convey and also explore the relationship between “gastronomy, design, and culture.” We’ll highlight some of the designs we found most interesting, although all 60 are pretty interesting and unique in their own right.

Leon Fernandez made 3d-printed shakers that explored the beauty of cellular structures and used new materials. Misasam used aluminum and glass to symbolize the fusion of technology and nature. Lenoir & Associates created a box-like wooden structure to represent mundane working life. Nachona Cadena employed ceramics to represent harmony and contrast in a piece that fit together like puzzle pieces. Gerardo Sandoval Osio uses the form of a traditional mortar but used black marble to show the connection between past and present. Montserrat Piña Bennetts wants to make a statement on how we observe the world by creating shakers that have an “eye” at the top of its tall structure made from white marble, jade, and obsidian.

Sofia Elias worked on latex, plastic, and aluminum to create a piece that shows both the organic and the synthetic in a playful and colorful form. Marisol Centeno Studio used 100% cotton in creating shakers that look like garlic or dumplings but convey the importance of human effort. Roberto Michelsen made something inspired by LEGO bricks as an homage to nostalgia and pop culture. Emilio Flores utilized cast bronze materials to create shakers that look like modern, abstract art. Ingrid Culebro Brown made use of natural stones, onyx, green marble and red travertine to pay tribute to nature and mineral wealth. Aldo Alvarez Tostado / Firestone used caobilla, horsehair and basalt to evoke volcanic landscapes and eroded surfaces.

Tsuboe, the maestro of Japanese handcrafted graters, has unveiled the Sakura Petal Grater—a piece of functional art that honors the 100th anniversary of the Ōkōzu Diversion Canal. Seamlessly blending Japanese heritage and masterful craftsmanship, this limited-edition tool elevates everyday cooking into an experience worth savoring.

Click Here to Buy Now: $25

The Flood That Sparked a Legacy

A century ago, the Ōkōzu Diversion Canal transformed the Echigo Plain. This monumental project, completed over 22 years with the labor of 10 million workers, redirected the Shinano River’s destructive floods, protecting lives and livelihoods. The scale of the effort was staggering, and the impact, profound—turning a once-vulnerable region into a place of stability and growth.

Cherry blossoms were planted along the levees to celebrate this achievement, becoming enduring symbols of renewal and hope. Today, the Sakura Petal Grater draws inspiration from these blossoms, honoring both the engineering marvel and the enduring beauty of sakura.

Crafted for Precision, Designed to Impress

With over 100 years of expertise, Tsuboe continues to uphold Tsubame City’s rich tradition of metalworking excellence. The Sakura Petal Grater is shaped through a meticulous 10-step process that blends traditional techniques with cutting-edge innovation:

  • Material Selection & Pressing: High-quality copper and aluminum alloy are pressed into the sakura shape, shielded by a vinyl layer to prevent imperfections.
  • Blade Formation: Precision-engineered blades are individually raised using a custom NC machine, ensuring seamless grating with minimal effort.
  • Polishing and Final Inspection: Each piece undergoes rigorous finishing and inspection to meet Tsuboe’s exacting standards.
  • Laser Marking (Silver Edition): A premium touch of understated branding enhances the grater’s exclusivity.

This process ensures a tool that’s not only visually stunning but also a joy to use—sharp, durable, and built to last.

A Grater Tailored for the Table

The Sakura Petal Grater is designed for precision and convenience, making it ideal for grating small amounts of fresh ingredients directly at the table. Whether it’s a touch of ginger for a steaming bowl of miso, a dash of citrus zest to brighten a dessert, or freshly grated wasabi to accompany sushi, this grater delivers the perfect finish without the need for larger, bulkier tools.

Its individually raised blades offer exceptional sharpness, ensuring smooth, efficient grating. The gently rounded sakura shape and contoured handle provide a comfortable grip, making it easy to use while dining or cooking. Compact and elegant, it transitions effortlessly between the kitchen and the table.

A Tale of Two Petals

The Sakura Petal Grater is available in two striking variations:

  • Pink Edition: Crafted from lightweight aluminum alloy, its vibrant anodized finish evokes the delicate beauty of cherry blossoms in full bloom.
  • Silver Edition: Made from tin-plated copper, this edition combines luxurious heft with a timeless metallic sheen.

Both versions are engineered for durability and precision, with blades that retain their sharpness over time. A perfect fusion of form and function, these graters elevate both your kitchen’s aesthetic and your culinary game.

Turning the Everyday Into Artistry

Whether grating a pinch of garlic to enhance a dish or adding fresh zest to a cocktail garnish, the Sakura Petal Grater transforms these moments into rituals of refined artistry. Its design invites you to bring it to the table, where its compact size and stunning appearance can be appreciated as part of the meal.

Encased in bespoke packaging commemorating the Ōkōzu Diversion, it’s not just a utensil but a keepsake. For culinary enthusiasts and design aficionados alike, it’s a thoughtful gift or a personal indulgence.

Governors Point is the Ultimate Eco-Luxury Escape You’ll Wish You Lived In

17 octobre 2024 à 22:30

Governors Point, an exclusive residential enclave, sits on a pristine 125-acre peninsula in Washington’s Salish Sea. Envisioned by acclaimed architect Omer Arbel, this unique community offers an exquisite mix of luxury living and deep respect for the environment. The development features 16 custom waterfront homes that blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. Each home is crafted to celebrate the raw beauty of the area, ensuring it complements rather than overpowers the natural setting.

Designer: Omer Arbel

Governors Point’s history adds depth to its current form. Originally, the site was slated for over 300 homes and multiple marinas, but a transformative partnership between design entrepreneur Randy Bishop and the Whatcom Land Trust shifted its destiny. Their focus was on conservation, turning Governors Point into a haven for both residents and nature.

Exterior Design: Blending With Nature

The exterior of each home at Governors Point reflects Omer Arbel’s innovative approach to merging architecture with nature. The homes are placed strategically along the peninsula, with some landward facades partially buried to reduce their visual presence and make them part of the landscape.

On the west-facing side, a “cloudlike” exterior skin made from cedar burl offcuts adds a striking visual feature. These cedar pieces, described as “boulder-shaped modules,” are mounted on metal standoffs and gently sway, creating a kinetic effect. Over time, moss and lichens will grow on these surfaces, adding a living, evolving element to the design.

Roofs are designed to allow the forest to grow over them, making the homes seem like natural extensions of the landscape. This design choice also offers energy efficiency, as the forest provides natural insulation.

Paths leading to the homes are discreet, guiding residents through nature in a way that contrasts the enclosed feeling of the homes—often opening up dramatically to views over the cliffs. These paths are set between retaining walls, enhancing the contrast between entering underground spaces and emerging to cliff-edge views. Landscaping is restricted to just 3,000 square feet per 1.5-acre lot, ensuring that most of the natural flora is preserved. This careful planning maintains the native beauty of Governors Point, keeping ecological integrity at the forefront.

The design also respects the existing kayak route along the shoreline, ensuring that the natural recreational pathways remain unobstructed and inviting for kayakers.

Interior Design: Seamless Flow Indoors and Out

The interior of each Governors Point home reflects Arbel’s commitment to creating harmony between luxury and nature. The homes are capped at 2,900 square feet, maintaining a modest size that fits within the environment.

Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows bring in sweeping views of the Salish Sea and San Juan Islands, flooding rooms with natural light. These windows create a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces, making the landscape a natural part of the home’s interior.

The living room design beautifully showcases this philosophy, featuring woven leather chairs and a low-profile marble coffee table. The living area opens directly to the outdoors, framed by boulder-like modules connecting the home to the natural world. The use of earthy tones and tactile fabrics throughout the living room maintains a sense of warmth and cohesion, while built-in shelves add functionality without overwhelming the space.

The materials used throughout the homes, like locally sourced wood and stone, add warmth and texture, while low-VOC paints and reclaimed wood floors keep the building process eco-friendly.

Fixtures from Arbel’s design firm, Bocci, are featured throughout, including custom glass pendants that bring a unique glow to the rooms. The collaboration between Omer Arbel and Bocci goes back nearly two decades, allowing Bocci’s luxurious finishes to integrate seamlessly into Arbel’s architectural projects. Skylights and open floor plans ensure that natural light fills every corner, enhancing the spaciousness while connecting each room to the outdoors.

In the kitchen, an elegant concrete finish defines the space, with natural textures continuing to enhance the connection between indoor and outdoor environments. This description is based on conceptual design elements rather than a confirmed source from the images or documents provided. Large windows frame views of the sea, while the design focuses on subtle built-in features, such as hidden storage and a minimalist aesthetic, ensuring the kitchen is functional and stylish.

The Parametric Approach: Architecture With Variation

Omer Arbel takes a parametric design approach at Governors Point—meaning the homes are crafted within a set of guidelines that allow for natural variations. Each home follows core principles but adapts to the specific conditions of its location.

For example, cedar burl offcuts on the west-facing facades are arranged within set parameters but come together in unique compositions. This gives every home its personality while maintaining a consistent architectural language across the community.

Arbel’s process involves setting constraints and letting materials and site-specific factors guide the final design. This approach allows the architecture to adapt to the environment, making each home a reflection of its surroundings.

It turns construction into a creative, evolving process that celebrates unpredictability and uniqueness. Arbel also extends this parametric philosophy to interior fixtures, using materials like copper and glass to adapt to the living spaces’ flow.

The master bedroom continues the organic design language with a feature wall that mimics the boulder-shaped modules seen outside. The furniture, including the bed and integrated shelving, balances the ruggedness of natural materials and refined craftsmanship. Custom Bocci lighting adds a sculptural quality, casting soft light that enhances the serene atmosphere.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Governors Point is a model of sustainable architecture, with 98 of the 125 acres set aside as a nature reserve managed by the Whatcom Land Trust. This area features a 2.5-mile public access loop trail, allowing residents and visitors to explore the peninsula’s stunning natural beauty, including access to beaches and viewpoints on both sides.

Keeping most of the land as a nature reserve helps protect local ecosystems, balancing development and conservation.

Each residence is capped at 2,900 square feet, with an additional 1,100 square feet allowed for garages or outbuildings. By limiting the size of the homes and restricting manicured landscaping, the development ensures that the natural surroundings remain untouched as much as possible.

Using sustainable materials, such as repurposed cedar burl offcuts for exterior cladding, reduces waste and promotes regional resource efficiency. Governors Point also bans using pesticides and harmful chemicals, protecting the local flora and fauna.

Energy efficiency is key in architectural planning, with large windows designed to optimize passive solar heating while offering stunning views. The project maintains a low-density footprint by limiting the development to only 16 homes on the 27 developed acres, reducing habitat disruption and preserving wildlife corridors.

The design blends the homes into the landscape with natural features like buried facades and forest-covered roofs, setting a new standard for eco-conscious luxury.

Waterdrop ED01’s Portable Electric Filter Pitcher gives you Pure Drinking Water in Under 1 Second

Par : Sarang Sheth
9 octobre 2024 à 01:45

You fill a glass from the tap, the water looks clear enough, and you take a sip without thinking twice. But do you really know what’s in that water? Hidden beneath its transparency are impurities you can’t always see—chemicals, metals, microorganisms, etc. We assume the tap is fine because it’s what we’ve always done. But why settle for “good enough” when you could have water that’s visibly, undeniably clean? That’s the idea behind Waterdrop’s ED01 Electric Water Filter Pitcher. It’s not just about filtration; it’s about transparency—literally. The water-purifying pitcher itself is crystal clear, so you see exactly what you’re pouring into your glass. No more guessing, no more second thoughts. And the best part? Being able to carry your ED01 around from room to room instead of having to walk to the kitchen or your wall-mounted purifier every single time you need a glass of water. Whether you’re working at your desk, lounging on the couch, or prepping a meal, this sleek pitcher follows you, offering fresh, purified water wherever you need it. Clean water, on your terms.

Designer: Waterdrop

Click Here to Buy Now: $37.23 $57.19 (31% off on Amazon). Get an extra 5% off with coupon code ‘YDreader’. Hurry, deal ends in 24 hours!

The Waterdrop ED01 is a remarkably portable water filter pitcher, designed to give you clear water wherever you go. The pitcher itself holds 3.5 liters (or 15 glasses worth) of water in it at any given point in time, with a one-touch dispenser that automatically filters and dispenses water directly into your bottle or glass. At 10.2 inches in height, it’s compact enough to even slide right into your fridge, giving you the added advantage of crisp, chilled drinking water at the push of a button.

Even though its transparent design is arguably its most eye-catching feature, the real beauty of the Waterdrop ED01 is what you don’t see—the advanced filtration happening behind the scenes. Sure, we all want clean water, but most of us don’t give a second thought to what’s actually in that water. With a single-button dispensing system, this pitcher does the heavy lifting of purifying for you on demand, removing bacteria, heavy metals, chemicals, and other contaminants you don’t want in your body. And it does so instantly, meaning you’re not just getting water that’s filtered—you’re getting water that’s as fresh as it can possibly be. Compare that to traditional gravity-fed systems, where the water can sit around for hours, potentially growing germs or losing its crisp taste.

Waterdrop’s electric filter pitchers provide instant filtration too, at a stunning 0.8 liters a minute compared to gravity water filters that take nearly 4x as long. All you do is hit the water drop icon on top and the ED01 gets to work. Water passes through a 5-micrometer filter that traps and removes over 30 harmful contaminants like chlorine, PFOA/PFOS, lead, benzene, mercury, while even trapping molecules that give some types of water a bad odor or taste. It doesn’t reduce the water’s TDS count, which you may want to take care of if you’ve got high-TDS tap water in your neighborhood – that’s where RO filtration systems are required, although RO systems are traditionally a lot bigger and bulkier than the ED01’s sleek water filter design.

The cartridge-based filters are easy to install and even swap out. Sort of like installing a big battery, the cylindrical filter cartridges slide in and slide out, making replacement a breeze. Each cartridge is good for up to 200 gallons of water or 1600 bottles, lasting anywhere between 4-6 months based on your water consumption. The ED01’s built-in battery has a 30-day life too, so you only ever need to recharge the thing once a month.

The ED01’s portable design and built-in handle mean you can carry your water purifier around with you – reducing your dependency on single-use water bottles. Whether you’re at home, at work, or out in nature, the ED01 has your drinking water needs sorted. Going on a camping trip? No need to haul around a bunch of bottled water when you can just bring the ED01 along and get fresh, filtered water from any available source. Living in a small apartment? The compact size won’t take up much counter space, and the clean, minimalist design ensures it won’t clash with your décor. The minimal, all-clear design adapts to your decor, and the compact form factor to your lifestyle, offering you the flexibility and freedom to get clean water wherever you are. You don’t realize how much you rely on something as simple as good, clean water until you have a product that makes it this easy to access.

The Compact Powerhouse: A Dishwasher That Saves Space and Delivers Sparkling Results

30 août 2024 à 01:45

Let’s face it—finding the right dishwasher involves more than just getting your dishes clean. It’s about how well it fits into your life, space, and routine. The LISSOME R1 and R1 Lite are designed with a space-saving concept in mind, ensuring they fit seamlessly into your kitchen, whether it’s a small apartment or a compact office break room. These dishwashers go beyond performance—they make your life easier and maximize your space. Let’s dive into what they bring and help you decide which suits your needs best.

Designer: LISSOME

Click Here to Buy Now: $309 $469 (34% off). Hurry, only 12/65 left! Raised over $158,000.

Setting New Standards in Dishwashing

The LISSOME R1 is designed with an ultra-slim profile, measuring just 11.02 inches (28cm) wide, making it easy to fit into various spaces, such as small kitchens or office break rooms. It incorporates sweeping jet technology that uses horizontal water jets from a vertical spray arm to tackle tough stains effectively.

In addition to its water-saving features, the R1 ensures that your dishes are clean and hygienic, thanks to its 15-minute quick wash & dry cycle and the world’s first sweeping jet technology. This cutting-edge system uses horizontal water jets to tackle stubborn stains efficiently. The R1 also incorporates dual sterilization technology, combining UVC rays and plasma to effectively eliminate bacteria and germs, making it ideal for sanitizing items like baby bottles, toys, and fruits and vegetables. The R1’s hot air dry function, supported by its independent drying feature, operates at 50°C, ensuring that dishes are thoroughly dried and sanitized. To enhance convenience, the dishwasher’s door opens automatically to release steam and speed up the drying process, leaving your dishes ready for use.

Efficiency and Hygiene Combined

The LISSOME R1 is designed to be both water-efficient and hygienic, making it a standout option for modern households. Using an average of 3.3 liters of water per cycle, the R1 achieves a significant 70% reduction in water usage compared to traditional handwashing, which typically requires around 10 liters. This impressive efficiency is made possible by AI sensor technology that detects water turbidity and adjusts the cleaning process for optimal results. The R1 also features a built-in 3.6L water tank, simplifying setup by eliminating the need for complex plumbing, which is particularly beneficial in environments like RVs or temporary housing.

In addition to its versatility, the R1 offers aesthetic flexibility with two color options: Space Gray and Starlight White. You can choose the color that best matches your style. The R1 Lite, while equally efficient, is available only in Space Gray. This makes it easy to find a model that meets your functional needs and complements your kitchen’s look.

Versatile Use and Aesthetic Options

The LISSOME R1’s versatility makes it an excellent fit for various environments, from small apartments to outdoor settings like campsites. Its compact size and easy setup make it incredibly convenient for limited space and limited resources. Despite its small footprint, the R1 can hold up to 28 pieces of dishware, including plates up to 12 inches in diameter and frying pans up to 10 inches, making it ideal for families of 2-4 people. It’s designed to handle everyday dishwashing needs and more specialized tasks like cleaning baby items or sterilizing fruits and vegetables.

R1 vs. R1 Lite: What’s the Difference?

LISSOME offers two models to meet different needs and budgets: the R1 and the R1 Lite. Both models feature sweeping jet technology and can handle up to 28 pieces of dishes. They operate at a maximum water temperature of 80°C, ensuring effective cleaning and sterilization. However, only the R1 includes an auto-released drying function, making it a more convenient option for those who value hands-off drying.

The LISSOME R1 has a high-speed brushless water pump that provides extra cleaning power, a feature that the R1 Lite lacks. The R1 also includes advanced hygiene features such as UVC + plasma sterilization and an independent hot air dry function to thoroughly clean and sanitize dishes. The R1 Lite, while still efficient, does not include these sterilization and drying technologies.

Another difference lies in convenience features. The R1 offers an AI wash mode and an automatic detergent dispensing system that adjusts the amount of detergent based on the load, reducing the need for user intervention. The R1 Lite requires manual detergent addition and lacks the AI-driven convenience of the R1.

Which Model is Right for You?

So, which one should you choose? The R1 is the better option if you’re looking for a dishwasher that offers advanced cleaning features, superior drying and sterilization, and the ease of AI-driven modes. It’s particularly well-suited for families with young children, health-conscious individuals, or anyone who appreciates having the latest technology in their home.

If budget is your primary concern and you’re okay with fewer advanced features, the R1 Lite is a solid choice. It still delivers excellent cleaning performance with sweeping jet technology and auto-released drying, making it a strong option for smaller households or those with less demanding dishwashing needs.

Both models bring a new level of convenience and efficiency to dishwashing, making them valuable additions to any home. If you’re ready to enhance your kitchen with a compact, powerful, and versatile dishwasher, choose the LISSOME model that best fits your lifestyle. Whether you opt for the feature-packed R1 or the budget-friendly R1 Lite, you’re investing in more than just clean dishes—you’re improving the way you live.

Breville’s new Oracle brews barista-quality cold and hot coffee at “Jet” speeds with precision

Par : Gaurav Sood
5 août 2024 à 19:15

I’m a coffee buff but have a limited sense of good coffee. A simple machine keeps me satisfied but a nice brew at a café really tells the difference. I wouldn’t say I’m going to translate into someone keen on brewing specialty coffee at home anytime soon. But if you’ve been yearning for barista-level precision and control over your cup of coffee, you can settle for the new Breville Oracle Jet, which is now available in the US.

A keen coffee machine that can produce hot or cold-press espresso, most of it automatically, the Oracle Jet is Australia-based Breville’s first-of-its-kind option on the market. From how it appears, it’s an impressive coffee machine with a brushed stainless steel finish (available in a range of exclusive colors) featuring a touchscreen display that would let you control it in most cases. Interesting however is the fact that the intuitive machine automatically does the grinding, dosing, and tamping to eliminate the human intervention, yet enhancing the brew quality in return.

Designer: Breville

What really distinguishes Breville’s new entrant in the world of specialty brewing at home concept is its ability to brew perfect cold espresso drinks. In fact, it’s the first in the Breville’s portfolio that makes cold brew but then the price of the machines really makes me skip a beat. Not that I was going to make an effort to secure finances for purchase, but $2000 for the coffee machine will have many like me deterred and setting in return for a regular drip coffee maker.

This doesn’t at all mean that the Oracle Jet does not have its mouth where the money is. Of course, the price is nothing for a good shot of cold brew espresso that this machine has been designed and manufactured to achieve with little to no effort. A definitely lift up of your stature from a barista visitor to a full-blown coffee specialist at home!

As an auto cold-brew espresso machine, it requires a bit of doing to install it and get the beans and water calibrated. Thereafter the process is pretty automatic and straight-forward. The touchscreen panel onboard is where all the controls are for you to set the grind size, switch between hot and cold brew or add your choice of milk to the coffee. The controls on the screen are generated with the tech-based ‘barista guidance,” and the machine helps execute the moves to brew you a perfect temperature espresso every time of the day.

Ultra-sleek Waterdrop X16 RO Purifier brings mineral-rich water with a single touch

Par : Sarang Sheth
10 juillet 2024 à 01:45

I don’t know about you but I’ve never seen a water filtration system that looks elegant enough to integrate into your house or kitchen’s decor. They’re almost always made of plastic, with a design that can only be described as ‘worthy of being hidden’. That’s why most kitchens come with under-sink compartments for hiding these purification systems, so all you get is clean water through the tap without that hyper-industrial aesthetic of the purifier ruining your kitchen’s design. That’s something the folks at Waterdrop Filter wanted to change – among other things. The first time you lay your eyes on the Waterdrop Filter X series – X16, chances are you won’t even think it’s a purification system – with the sleek aesthetic of probably a high-end PC, the X16 is a state-of-the-art tankless RO water purifier that couples with a touch-sensitive faucet that truly uplifts your kitchen. Place the X16 in a hidden compartment or have it sitting on your countertop, it delivers RO-purified water at a speed of 1600 gallons per day. The water goes through a meticulous 11-stage filtration system, coming out as pristine and tasty as you’d expect from a device that looks this cutting-edge.

Designer: Waterdrop Filter

Click Here to Buy Now: $1199.40 $1999 ($799.60 off, use coupon code “YDreader” to get an additional 5% discount). Hurry, deal ends in 48-hours!

Unlike conventional dispensers that rely on pre-filled tanks, the Waterdrop Filter X series – X16 operates on a tankless design. This means it generates purified water on demand, eliminating the need to wait for a bulky dispenser to slowly trickle out water. This helps give it that sleek design that sets it apart from other bulkier purifiers that store up to 10 or 20 liters of water at a time in advance. Water gets purified on demand, and the instant you touch the faucet, water flows at a maximum rate of 1600 gallons per day (that’s fast enough to fill a glass in a mere 2 seconds, or a kettle in 10 seconds). The flow speed can be adjusted too, but the idea of never having to wait with a carafe or jug while it slowly fills up is quite the boon.

Enjoy refreshing mineral water at home

However, water speed isn’t what defines the X16 – it’s the fact that the water goes through a meticulous 11-stage filtration process across 3 different filter modules. This multi-stage approach tackles a wide range of contaminants that may be lurking in your tap water. The heart of the system lies in the 18-layer RO membrane filter. Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a technology that forces tap water through a semi-permeable membrane, effectively filtering out a wide range of impurities, including Chlorine, Lead, Fluoride, Heavy Metals like arsenic, mercury, and chromium-6, and finally Microscopic Contaminants like bacteria, cysts, etc. RO filtration is considered to be arguably the highest standard in home-based water filtration – but it does have a caveat – for every liter of water filtered, the tankless RO system also ejects contaminated water out of its system, leading to wastage. The X16 tackles that with a 3:1 fresh-to-waste water ratio – which means for every 3 liters of fresh purified water, there’s just 1 liter of impure water that’s disposed at the end of the day – a metric much better than some purifiers that waste up to 50% of water in their purification process.

While the multi-stage filtration process removes a wide range of contaminants, the X16 takes an extra step to ensure water safety. The system also integrates a UV sterilizer that eliminates bacteria and viruses in the dispensed water, providing an extra layer of peace of mind. This is especially beneficial for those with compromised immune systems or concerns about microbial contamination in their water supply. While the filtration happens behind the scenes, what you really end up interfacing with is the X16’s tap – a smart, touch-sensitive faucet that comes with its own color-coded display to let you know that your water is pure and contaminant-free. An intuitive dial on the faucet lets you select the desired water volume, from 1 to 64 ounces, with automatic shutoff once the chosen amount is dispensed. Need to stop dispensing early? Pushing the dial again stops the water flow – it’s so easy even a kid could do it.

A simple glance at the faucet’s display also lets you know the status of each of the three filters – blue indicates a healthy filter life, yellow signifies a filter nearing replacement, and red signals an urgent need for a filter change. This intuitive system ensures optimal performance and prevents potential water quality issues by reminding you to replace filters before they become ineffective.

The result is a design and tech overhaul of how drinking water is filtered and dispensed in your kitchen. Instead of purifiers that you want to hide away, and faucets that can often look archaic, the X16 puts a minimal-futuristic spin on the category, with a sleek-looking purifier that’s worthy of being on your countertop, but if space is a constraint, fits perfectly well in your undersink, occupying a minimal footprint. The faucet echoes the same intuitive, sleek, cutting-edge approach that’s seen in the tankless purifier too. It’s simple and easy to use, giving you fresh water that’s enriched in minerals and has a pH level of 7.5± so you actually enjoy the taste of water too.

Bringing an Apple or Tesla-kind of innovation and disruption to the water dispensing space comes with a price, though. The Waterdrop Filter X series – X16 starts at $1999 for the entire kit (purifier + smart faucet), but you can grab a 35% discount on Prime Day and an additional 5% off using the code YDreader during checkout!

Click Here to Buy Now: $1199.40 $1999 ($799.60 off, use coupon code “YDreader” to get an additional 5% discount). Hurry, deal ends in 48-hours!

Reimagined clay water filter uses white ceramic for a better design (and taste)

Par : Ida Torres
28 mai 2024 à 13:20

Brazil apparently has one of the most effective (and affordable!) water filtration systems in the world. You can find clay water filters in almost every home and markets and they are actually created by local craftsmen. There are some challenges to this though as it is not always aesthetically pleasing and some people say there is a certain aftertaste to the water that goes through this system. There is even sometimes a problem about mold as well. Now a reinterpretation of the clay water filters may have solved some of those issues.

Designer: Estúdio Biologique

A Brazil-based design studio has come up with the Biologique water filter which still uses the same filter system. However, it uses white ceramic so that the water should taste about the same but of course it is filtered. It also doesn’t leave any mold but is also easy to clean, which was also a problem with the traditional filter. The important thing though is that it is able to bring clean, drinking water with the simple filtration system that doesn’t require any complicated installation or instructions.

For those that are concerned with the aesthetics of the water filter, then this is also where Biologique shines. It has a simple, minimalistic design that still keeps the original idea of the clay water filter but brings a more modern feel to it. It has two round parts on top of each other, a wooden stand, and a faucet that looks like those you find in draft beer machines. It comes in different colors: terracotta, rosé, green, brown, off white, black, gray, and capuccino.

The Biologique water filter comes in 9.0L and a petit version in 4.5L so you have two options depending on your space and the drinking water capacity of the people you live with. Of course it is more expensive than the traditional clay water filters that you’ll find in the usual Brazilian households. That’s the price you have to pay to have something prettier and better designed. Estúdio Biologique says their products are done by hand and on a small scale, so that’s also one of the reasons for the price point.

This Juicer gives you Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice in Less Time than it takes to Brew Coffee

Orange juice is great for you. It’s packed with Vitamin C, antioxidants, citric acid, and anti-inflammatory compounds. The problem is that juicing an orange is a little more annoying than it should be. You need to cut the oranges, manually juice each cut half, strain the pulp, and then wash your hands because you got juice all over them. It takes way too long to get one glass of OJ and you end up smelling like oranges in the process. It’s much more convenient to buy a carton of orange juice, and that’s quite a shame… Which is why a Barcelona-based startup Citring designed the Citring One, a citrus juicer that works about as fast as a Keurig or a Nespresso takes to make coffee. Just add the oranges, press a button, and you’ve got yourself a glass of fresh juice. Sounds too good to be true, right?

Designer: Citring

Well, if you think of how Nespresso and Keurig made coffee-brewing as simple as inserting a pod and hitting a button, the Citring One does the same for all citrus-based fruits. About the size of a coffee maker, the Citring One squeezes and juices 3 fruits at a time, eliminating the need for elbow grease, straining pulp, and cleaning yourself up after. Just open the lid and insert up to 3 whole citrus fruits in the silicon container. Shut the lid, place a glass under the dispenser, and hit the button on the Citring One. Once you do, something rather interesting happens. A slicer ascends upwards, guillotining the fruit into two halves, before using compressed air to press into the cut fruit and squeeze its juice out. Juice is dispensed to your glass through the same silicone container, so there is no need to clean any additional parts.

1) Put up to 3 whole oranges in the machine. No need to cut them. 2) In about a minute, your juice will be ready. 3) Citring will automatically squeeze the oranges and pour the juice into your glass.

The entire process is absolutely foolproof because you don’t need to do anything at all. The Citring One cuts and juices your fruit for you, giving you empty hemispheres of squeezed fruit that you can then throw away. The interface has all but one button, so you don’t need to worry about any settings, modes, or a smartphone app that tells you how much Vitamin C intake you’ve had all day. Drinking juice is good for you and the simpler the process the better. Every few uses, the BPA-free food-grade silicone containers inside the Citring One can be removed and rinsed under running water or in your dishwasher. The technology under its hood is impressive, and the overall product even secured an iF Design Award this year for how simple and foolproof it is.

Aside from being a little larger than your citrus juicer or even your blender, the Citring One does sport a $289 price tag which would make anyone reconsider… But think about a few things. You’d pay the same amount for a coffee machine, so why not a juicer? After all, juice is great for you. Secondly, those cartons of juice are filled with more sugar than fruit, and the costs add up when you end up buying a carton every week. Fresh fruit (especially from a farmer’s market) is a lot cheaper, and actually helps you regulate how much added sugar you consume in a day. Moreover, the Citring One works with other citrus fruits too, from lemons and limes to grapefruits, tangerines, mandarins, blood oranges, etc. It’s perfect for people who love consuming fruit, and just personally, makes for a great addition at juice cafes or restaurants/canteens wanting to offer juice that doesn’t get fresher than this. The Citring One comes in 2 colors, an all-black version and a stormtrooper black + white variant, and ships globally.

It has become quite a thing to have a good balance between design and functionality lately, adhering to this, Soso potentially introduces an innovative gourmet olive oil dispenser that artfully bridges aesthetics, sustainability, and practicality. Inspired by the brand’s iconic egg-shaped salt shaker, the new oil bottle captivates with its whimsical yet refined hen-shaped design, evoking the playful query, “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” This concept breathes life into the vibrant product range, offering a delightful and visually appealing solution for culinary aficionados.

Designer: Bernardo Diaz Lopez for Soso

The design journey began with a clear objective: to create a compact, durable, and reusable container that complements the beloved egg salt shaker. Crafted from high-quality ceramic sourced from local producers in Andalusia and the Spanish Levant, the bottle embodies a deep connection to Spanish heritage through its tactile feel and aesthetic purity. This local sourcing not only ensures premium quality but also reinforces the brand’s commitment to supporting regional craftsmanship.

This attention to ergonomic detail ensures that the dispenser is as practical as it is aesthetically pleasing.

Aimed at consumers who value both aesthetics and sustainability, the design appeals to those who appreciate locally sourced goods and the revival of ceramics as a reusable material. Working overtime and getting home late almost every day to find your dinner cold and unsavory? I’m sure a family member or your spouse has to wait through the night and then serve you hot food. It’s still fine on hot summer days, but the long winter nights can really get tough for everyone; you cannot have a cold meal at all! Hot plates have been a solution to this culinary conundrum through the years. But traditional warming boards only add bulk to your kitchen and do not do much to your meal.

What if you could have piping hot dishes on your table without taking up extra space? Whether you’re working late or hosting friends, the idea of a hot, delicious meal awaiting you at the table is a sublime feeling for many, including the designer of this electrically powered, folding and detachable heating plate that would be your biggest help when you’re hosting family or friends at home, partying at the pool, or out camping with your pooch.

Besides, the overall concept – with an adjustable control panel – excels in heat retention. It helps preserve your food’s warmth and flavor with its three different temperature settings, keeping the heat maintained for almost eight hours. Interestingly, the warming board is ideal for heating dishes, milk, and drying food – all ensuring a delightful dining experience.

Want Perfect Sourdough Bread every single time? This Kitchen Tool gives you foolproof results

Par : Sarang Sheth
15 mai 2024 à 01:45

The beauty of baking your own bread lies in its simplicity, and the fact that the yeast and bacteria does most of the job for you. You don’t need fancy equipment or ingredients, just a big container to proof your bread, and an oven to bake a perfectly rustic loaf of sourdough that you can then top up with avocado or ricotta and honey. However, what most bakers don’t tell you is that your loaf of bread is actually a living being. The yeast, whether natural or the instant kind you buy at the market, is a living creature that transforms your ball of dough into a fluffy, airy, mildly tart slice of bread that tastes so good with anything you put on top. This yeast needs just 3 things to perform this transformation – flour, water (hydration), and the right temperature. Most home bakers ignore that last metric, and if you’ve made a loaf of bread that just lacked that oomph or the right texture, chances are you followed your recipe correctly, but missed out on ensuring the yeast could grow under the right temperature. The DoughBed, however, takes care of that part of the breadmaking journey for you. Designed to be a perfectly optimal proofing tray for your dough, the Doughbed is a wide glass tray with a cork lid and a heating bed that creates exactly the right temperature for your loaf. Keep your dough to proof in the DoughBed and you’ll be consistently rewarded with the perfect proofing every time, whether it’s for sourdough loaves, pizzas, baguettes, focaccias, brioche buns, or any other kind of leavened bread you desire to bake!

Designers: Sourhouse (Erik Fabian & Jennifer Yoko Olson)

Click Here to Buy Now: $175 $225 ($50 off). Hurry, deal ends in 72-hours! Raised over $220,000.

Designed by home-baker Erik Fabian and industrial designer Jennifer Yoko Olson, the DoughBed is basically an incubation chamber for bread microbes that creates the perfect thermal conditions for yeast (and sourdough bacteria) to feed and grow. “The problem is not your dough, it’s your kitchen. Kitchen temperatures are often too cold for bread dough, and more importantly, always changing,” say the duo behind the DoughBed. The yeast in your dough thrives at temperatures of 75-82°F (24-28°C), but that might just be a tad too warm for humans, who set their thermostats or air conditioners to slightly lower temperatures. This mild temperature difference (of a mere 4-5°F) can be the difference between a perfect loaf, and a loaf that just doesn’t have the right open crumb. The solution? A mini habitat for your doughball, allowing it to do its job flawlessly well, every single time.

Mat + Bowl + Lid = The Perfect Proofing Solution

DoughBed combines a warming mat, a glass dough bowl, and a cork lid to create an efficient warming solution. The dough bowl has a wide bottom so your dough is gently and evenly warmed to 75-82°F (24-28°C) by the mat below.

Each DoughBed is made of 3 parts – an oval-shaped glass bowl, a cork lid, and a warming base that gives your bread microbes the ideal temperature to do its job. The wide oval tray is big enough to hold 3 loaves worth of dough at one time, and is perfectly shaped and sized for mixing your dough in, resting and proofing, and pouring your dough out for shaping before baking. As a bonus, it’s even designed to be oven safe, although baking a loaf that big would be overkill!

The warming mat is made with cork to prevent heat loss into your cold counter.

Once your dough’s ready for proofing, simply cover the glass tray with the DoughBed’s cork lid and place the tray and lid on the DoughBed’s electric base, which heats up to just the right temperature for your bread microbes to thrive. The bowl’s wide base helps the bread dough heat evenly and quickly, and the DoughBed’s single temperature target works with remarkable consistency all throughout the year, giving you perfect loaves even in autumn or winter months.

Oval = the Best Shape for Dough Handling

The DoughBed is perfect for home bakers looking to upgrade their bread game. The oblong oval shape of the glass bowl is ideal for mixing, kneading, and folding with both your hands, and the cork lid and base don’t just give the DoughBed its rustic aesthetic, they’re key to helping your dough maintain its temperature efficiently, and the cork base prevents heat-loss into your kitchen counter.

The DoughBed’s base operates with just 10W of power (that’s 75% less than an oven light), relying on a USB cable that can be wound up and tucked into the underside of the base when not in use. The cork lid comes with a removable, food-safe polypropylene liner, and both the glass bowl and polypropylene liner are dishwasher safe. We’d recommend not washing the cork to ensure it lasts longer. The DoughBed starts at a discounted $175 for backers – that’s a lot cheaper than the Le Creuset you’d mix and proof your sourdough loaf in.

Click Here to Buy Now: $175 $225 ($50 off). Hurry, deal ends in 72-hours! Raised over $220,000.
