Nike Dunk Low Halloween will spook festive flair in sneaker culture this October

Par : Gaurav Sood
16 septembre 2024 à 22:30

Nike is all set to give fans a reason to spook up the neighborhood this Halloween with the introduction of not one but two eerie edition kicks. Just earlier this month, the Swoosh company took wraps off the Halloweenized model of the Air Force 1 Low, and now we are here with the Nike Dunk Low “Halloween,” offering a frightful take on the court favorite.

Designed with the scary style statement, not specifically for the court alone; the street-smart Dunk Low silhouette captures the spirit of Halloween very nicely with Bright Cactus, Black, and Green Curry colorway, embellishing the cracked leather upper and other unnerving antics of the pair.

Designer: Nike

Designed for the holiday with its “Halloween” color scheme, the limited-edition Dunk Low Halloween, carries many fan-favorite aspects to give the creeps. First up, the cracked leather upper contrasts with a molded skull motif (with a 3D effect) on the black toe box. The shoe is marked with eye-catching textured black material on its tongue and the laterals while orange laces and the gum soles give the shoes a vintage aesthetic.

The look is completed with a long-molded Swoosh logo appearing in the same color and material as the toe box. This look of the Dunk Low is not very different from the Black and Crimson colorway of the Nike Air Force 1 Low “Halloween” iteration which carries a similar human skull modeled on the toe box. This is not a coincidence; Nike wants the season’s spooky spirit to flow down the customers with the same highlight.

That said, the Dunk Low Halloween is not just tweaked with seasonal appropriateness to blend festive flair with sneaker culture. It has been dealt with all the aspects of the lineup to ensure there is no compromise in comfort. For the interested ones, the Nike Dunk Low Halloween is slated for release on October 26, 2024. It will be available via Nike SNKRS and a few other retailers starting at $130. Nike Air Force 1 Low Halloween will also hit the market around the same time for a starting price of $140.

8BitDo’s Mod Kit turns wired NGC controller into wireless one with Hall Effect joysticks

If you wish to again play games on your Nintendo console with the GameCube controller that has damaged wires and bad instances of drifting analog sticks, then this accessory arrives as a blessing in disguise. 8BitDo has introduced a mod kit that lets you upgrade your GameCube controller to a wireless gamepad, so that you’re not impulsively tempted into buying a new one.

This is not the first time 8BitDo has introduced a mod kit for the Nintendo controllers including the N64 and earlier ones, so this comes as no surprise. The trick here is that you’ll have to replace the existing PCB of the NGC controller with a drop-in board. The Chinese tech company is taking pre-orders for this useful gaming accessory that’ll make you go wireless if you hate the wire clutter on your Nintendo ecosystem. Called the NGC Mod Kit, this one is slated to ship on 25th September.

Designer: 8BitDo

You’ll need to have basic soldering knowledge and loads of patience to make the changeover. Remember, controllers are not that easy to put together when opened up. Although not as tedious as putting together something like a DualSense. Of course, there are certified adapters on the market (including 8BitDo GBros and Nintendo’s official adapter) that allow you to use the wired GameCube controller with the Switch but this mod kit cuts out the extra and brings straightforward wireless Bluetooth connectivity.

Along with making your gamepad wireless, there are other add-ons as well. It has Hall effect joysticks for improved lifespan and immunity against sensitive vibrations if you love to play your FPS games hard. The accessory adds a 300mAh USB-C rechargeable battery with 6 hours of playtime for gaming without interruptions. It also adds a new set of triggers to the controller, so basically, you’ll have a virtually new gaming controller to play around with.

8BitDo Mod Kit priced at $26 is worth the spend if you have a Nintendo GameCube controller with chewed-down wires and defunct joystick controls. The only catch is, that you’ll have to slash out another $26 for the Tetro Receiver for GNC to connect to the GameCube. So, spending $52 on a wire-free setup for your existing NGC controller makes logical sense.

This ultra-thin portable music player redefines music listening experience

Portable music players have for long been the staple of audiophiles who cannot compromise on the audio quality of the tracks they listen to. Astell&Kern, FiiO and Sony have dominated this space for a long with their consistency.

Now Steelworks Studio wants these big names to level up their game with the SW-1 music player, which a proposed concept for a DAP that embodies functionality with visually pleasing aesthetics for a unified listening experience.

Designer: Steelworks Studio

A bezeless responsive touchscreen that is encapsulated by the durable aluminum body frame without subduing the retro charm signifies this design leap. The minimalist aesthetic is complemented by the stunning OLED display that fits the vibe of modern audio listeners. This concept chooses the trending silver finish for the frame that has a beautiful volume knob in the bottom center to induce a tactical feel.

The user can listen to their music on the 360-degree surround sound speakers as well as the gadget can be placed in the horizontal orientation. Yes, it’s got an equally robust kickstand for placing the device on a flat surface in landscape mode. So, you’re not just limited to music, but can also enjoy immersive binge-watching on the player.

The SW-1 music player has a very sleek and ergonomic footprint so that it can be carried easily in your daily commute to work. While the form factor is slightly taller than your usual Hi-res music player, the gadget is far thinner than other DAPs out there. Honestly, the height could have been a little less considering the display only occupies around 1/4th of the screen real estate. Anyways, the skim form fits like a charm in hand and that volume knob adds spice to your music listening experience.

The StarSpeeder 3000 attraction of the Star Tours at the Disney theme parks takes riders on an exciting journey of the Star Wars universe. For those who have experienced the thrill of this intergalactic ride, the limited-edition Star Tours StarSpeeder 3000 makes complete sense.

The play set limited to just 3,000 units debuted at the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event and for Star Wars fans the set will be available for purchase at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World starting 13 September. This set will be available via Tatooine Traders and interested buyers will have to get the park reservations to get one. Those who’ll go with the online purchase option can buy the StarSpeeder 3000 set exclusively from the Disney Store for $300 starting today.

Designer: Disney

The limited edition set comes with an LCD screen to play the original attraction footage with matching audio. The real ride is emulated with the scale seats having seat belts and opening doors that are activated with a chime sound. It comes with blasters, cannons and thrusters that have sound effects. To display it on your shelf, the set comes with a light-up display stand, along with the 3.75-inch minifigures of Captain Rex and R2-D2.

There’s an extendable landing gear that retracts when it’s time for action and locks in place. Those side panels are removable, and so are the rooftop carrier and roof panel. To keep the realism effect going, the set has exterior light effects too. This Star Wars playset requires six AA batteries to run and it would have been better off with an internal battery charged via a charging cable. That said, the batteries should last a long time unless you’re obsessed with playing around with the play set.

Postmodern Cone Watch puts architecture on the wrist to elevate you into lifetime of distinction

Whether you like the POP watch, made in collaboration with a 6-year-old and his painting skills, the Donut Watch that puts Apple logo mimicking donut on the dial, the infographic face watch, or for that matter, the all-new Postmodern Cone Watch (in picture above); there is one thing in common, all of these are the brainchild of the same person.

Created by Paul Kweton of Studio PAULBAUT, these watches, especially the cone watch, are peculiar. They of course attract with their distinctiveness, but you have to agree that these challenge the traditional idea of watchmaking with their playful reinterpretation of the timepiece as we know it.

Designer: Studio PAULBAUT

Postmodern Cone Watch, as the name gives out and the images show, is a cone-shaped watch inspired by the postmodern architecture characterized by curved forms, decorative elements, asymmetry, and vibrant colors. All of which are evident in this playfully attractive yet recognizably functional watch.

Paul Kweton, for this watch, has recreated an iconic postmodern building and shaped it into a watch. The colors and textures are chosen independent of the building’s structure or function, and do not have cohesiveness with functionality, rather depict the artistic freedom, prevalent in each of Paul’s previous works. The watch features a 3D-printed dial in a light blue hue that contrasts with the miniature conical building-shaped watch case featuring a nice blend of blue and yellow.

The Postmodern Cone Watch is paired with a white rubber strap and has an oversized cylindrical crown to add whimsy to it. The dial features black hour and minute hands, but the entire package sitting on the wrist is more than a watch, it is a timeless architecture on the wrist. We don’t have a word on the price or possible availability of the watch at the time of writing, but bold use of color and structure is sure to give you a lifetime of distinction, at least every time you wear it!

Designer: Anker

The Qi2-certified 15W MagGo Wireless Charging Station folds into an easily carriable form which lends it ultra-portable aesthetics. Anker specifically mentions the charger can also charge Apple Watches with undetachable metal straps which is a bonus.

Anker’s 3-in-1 MagGo Wireless Charging Station comes with a 40W adapter and a 5-foot USB-C to USB-C cable for quick charging of the 3-in-1 pad. Galaxy Book5 Pro 360: Samsung’s AI-Powered Convertible Laptop with Lunar Lake and 25-Hour Battery

Par : Gaurav Sood
5 septembre 2024 à 20:45

Come IFA 2024 and the race for the next generation Copilot+ PCs has kicked off. While Asus has showcased its portfolio of technologically advanced laptops, Samsung is keeping it low-key. The South Korean tech giant has introduced its debut entrant – Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 – into the Copilot+ PCs arena through a blog post.

Why has Samsung refrained from showcasing the thin, lightweight, and highly powerful laptop at the IFA is anybody’s guess, but from what the blog post reveals, the Book5 Pro definitely has an OLED display and a battery life to win more customers than the predecessors would have. Considering the fact that the laptop will be available only in select markets – France, Germany, the UK and the US per se – at launched later this month, the initial sales may not be clear indicators, the numbers would likely rise as and when the Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 goes on sale in other parts of the world.

Designer: Samsung

AI-focused Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 is powered by an Intel Core 7 Ultra Series 2 processor, which would provide the next level of computing prowess to this convertible laptop. Offered with a 16-inch OLED display, that can rotate a full 360 degrees, the laptop comes with an S Pen to ensure you can use it as a Windows tablet when you need it.

So, instead of just being a game-changing laptop, the Galaxy Book5 Pro 360, of course, is an undeniable tablet as well. Adding to it is its 10-point multi-touchscreen display that touts 3K super-resolution and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Despite its large 16-inch form factor, the convertible laptop weighs only 1.69kg and measures roughly 12.8mm at the thickest point.

Besides the immaculate display and the incredible computing power – thanks to its 200V Lunar Lake Intel processor that provides the laptop with 47 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of NPU (neural processing unit) power, which qualifies the system for the Copilot+ PC branding – it also impresses with its battery life. Interestingly, the Book5 Pro 360 comes with a 76Wh battery that powers up using a 65W USB-C adapter and can easily last up to 25 hours of video playback blasting out through its Dolby Atmos quad speakers.

Samsung provides the Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM paired with a choice of 512GB or 1TB NVMe SSD. For connectivity, this slim laptop accommodates a HDMI 2.1 port, a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB-A 3.2, and a headphone/mic combo jack. Featuring Wi-Fi 7 (be, 2×2) and Bluetooth 5.4 support, the laptop is available for preorder as we speak. It is priced at £1,700 ($2,250) for the 512GB variant, and £1,900 ($2,500) for the 1TB version in the UK.

Yaber’s K3 Series Projectors Debut at IFA 2024 with Advanced Cooling and Brightness For Modern Living

Par : Gaurav Sood
4 septembre 2024 à 14:15

Yaber has proven its mettle in the short throw projector market with the K2 and now the successor arrives at IFA 2024. Revealed at IFA 2024, the flagship K3 series projectors come with improved features and two proprietary technologies for significantly better visuals. According to Marshall Mao, General Manager of Yaber. “We’ve enhanced our flagship lineup to push the boundaries of what’s possible for in-home entertainment experiences.”

The home theatre projectors come in two variants – K3 and K3 Pro models, both featuring the new CoolSwift cooling tech for more stable extended use and the NovaGlow optical technology for far better brightness levels and vivid true-to-life images. Along with the visuals, these new-age projectors have dual JBL 15W stereo speakers with certified Dolby Audio for immersive audio.

Designer: Yaber

K3 series promises cinematic viewing with a 1080p FHD resolution and 1,600 ANSI lumens brightness, capable of projecting visuals to a distance of 40 to 200 inches even in the brightest of ambient conditions. Heat management is another feature that keeps you sorted for long viewing sessions courtesy of the U-shaped heatsink and dual thermoelectric coolers, which effectively manage heat, ensuring consistent performance.

Other important operational features that edge this series above other options on the market are the Auto Focus, Auto Keystone Correction, Intelligent Screen Alignment for seamless setup, and Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance for optimal image alignment. Ease-of-use functions that resonate well with modern smart life include a built-in TV dongle with access to over 7,000 apps including the likes of Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube.

Users can control the projectors hands-free from a distance using voice commands. For easy content transfer from your Android or Apple device, the NFC Tap option is a good option. Of course strain on the eyes is another thing that needs attention, hence the K3 series comes with a blue light-filtering coating to reduce eye strain while watching movies or web series.

“The K3 series reflects our dedication towards refining audiovisual technology and capabilities,” said Marshall Mao, General Manager of Yaber. “We’ve enhanced our Flagship lineup to push the boundaries of what’s possible for in-home entertainment experiences.” Let the Netflix and chill begin.

The Yaber K3 will launch for 599 EUR (roughly $660), while the K3 Pro will go for 649 EUR (around $720). Yaber also announced a new entry-level L2 series that starts at 239 EUR ($270).

Trailer with a fish-inspired aerodynamic design showcases modular living space and inflatable construction

Par : Gaurav Sood
3 septembre 2024 à 23:30

Travel trailers are becoming increasingly popular and the spike in exhibitors at shows like the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf, only substantiates this fact. With the upsurge in electric tow vehicles, the need of the hour are trailers that have sleeker aerodynamics and smaller form factor to minimize drag and increase range.

Of course, by trimming the size and dimensions of the camping trailer, the comfort will be compromised, but Bürstner from Kehl in Germany thinks otherwise. It is thus coming to the abovementioned RV show with the Talis; a trailer designed with marine-inspired aerodynamics, modular living space, and an inflatable rear that expands its compact form factor for user convenience.

Designer: Bürstner

Welcome to the future of trailer camping! Designed in partnership with StudioSyn, the Talis is a futuristic concept that has the potential to be the highlight of Caravan Salon 2024. On the outside, at first glance, there isn’t much difference, but a closer examination shows, as the company confirms, pointed front and the rear of the camper that are “reminiscent of a fish.” The design is a result of multiple run-throughs the virtual wind tunnel software before settling for this shape.

The exterior is pretty compact, yet the interior, featuring slatted wood wall paneling with soundproofing and movable battery-powered lamps, is pretty spacious to accommodate a couple and two children. The spaciousness is possible with the multifunctional Bürstner Air-Xtension System, which allows the rear of the trailer to inflate and permit the fixed rear transverse bed to convert into a 200 x 170cm bed lengthwise. Under the rear transverse bed (without transformation) is the “kids sleeping den.” This child-friendly sleeping space for two kids can double as storage space or garage during the day and can be partitioned off with a curtain.

To enhance the culinary experience onboard is a kitchen module with a double induction hob. This has a portable kitchen, which allows residents to carry its top half outdoors to extend the cooking experience beyond the confines of the four camper walls. Despite the small size, Talis has been provisioned with a twin chamber, a self-sufficient eco-toilet that would function without any chemicals. The bathroom would also have space for a shower and a foldable sink.

Konstantin Chaykin’s ThinKing is ultra-thin mechanical wristwatch that shatters slimness record by 5mm

Par : Gaurav Sood
3 septembre 2024 à 20:45

Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC – measuring only 1.7mm thick – was the thinnest watch we’d known. Now, ThinKing has skimmed the stakes further down to 1.65mm, and a new thinnest watch is born. Before you start searching for retail stores, the ThinKing by Independent Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin is only a prototype and is waiting to break the production mold.

Richard Mille, Piaget, Bulgari, have all been in the race to build the thinnest mechanical watch. All these watchmakers, and now Konstantin Chaykin included, are radically reducing the thickness of watches and delivering the thinnest watches, one after the other. Aptly called ThinKing being the latest wonder, which is build after the fascination with the ultra-thin Bagnolet pocket watch.

Designer: Konstantin Chaykin

Taking cues from the old pocket watch and integrating an impressive, contemporary design with modern technology, the ThinKing borrows its aesthetics from Konstantine Chaykin’s signature Wristmons mechanical wristwatch. Currently in pre-production, there isn’t much known about the watch, but from how it appears, in pictures, we will try and decipher the obvious about this stainless steel case watch.

More details about the pricing and availability of this new thinnest watch in the world will be known after its first outing at the ongoing Geneva Watch Days exhibition. Until then from the obvious, the watch has a thickness of only 1.65mm and has a dial reminiscent of the Wristmons collection’s Joker series, where the apparent two eyes (on the top half) display hours and minutes, while the bottom half is occupied by the brand logo, which replaces the joker’s smile in the original Wristmons.

If you thought the dial was intriguing, don’t miss the caseback. The back displays the built-in K.23-0 movement (with 32 hours of power reserve) without letting out too much, while the major part here is opaque and engraved with “Prototype of the world’s thinnest watch by K. Chaykin — 30.08.2024,” which would ideally translate into an exclusivity number when the watch is ready for retail.

This fusion of a hoverboard, e-scooter and skateboard is a PMD done right

Par : Gaurav Sood
3 septembre 2024 à 10:07

Hoverboards and electric scooters come with their own set of advantages and irks that influence the buying decision. While hoverboard is the preferred choice for short jaunts, e-scooters with an average range of 10-40 miles are well suited for extended trips in the city. E-scooters also come with the advantage of better top speeds and performance.

On the hind side, e-scooters are more expensive and less swanky when compared to hoverboards. Someone looking for hands-free freedom of commuting in cities once in a while over short distances is much better off with a hoverboard or a trusted skateboard. What if we could have the best of both worlds? Of course, anything is possible in the concept design realm.

Designer: Eojin Jeon, Sumin Park, Changyu Seo and Geunyeong Do

Craving urban freedom without compromising on style, comfort, or ease of navigating around without having to worry about running out of juice is what this Personal Mobility Device (PMD) aims to target. Dubbed Modi, the vehicle is a mix of a hoverboard and e-scooter, adapting the best features of both to appeal to every kind of city dweller. According to the designers, the motivation behind the design is to address modern-day transportation issues. Even the current league of PMDs has become a “nuisance on the roads due to their heavy weight, large size, and disorderly presence.”

Conventional personal mobility vehicles are heavy and securely parking them at random palaces can be a headache if you are already in the rush of things. Modi aims to get over these problems with a compact and lightweight design that can be easily carried or stored in your backpack when not in use. The PMD comes with retractable footrests for design integrity without compromising the function. These footrests provide stability and comfort while riding, and simply vanish away when not in use.

Although the designers have not detailed in about the working mechanism of the PMD, I assume it reacts to the pressure applied with your feet in either direction. The thing is much more stable than a self-balancing hoverboard that for some reason has never earned my confidence for its operating mechanism. That said, the personal commuter is also going to appeal to people who love skateboards, and always wanted a battery-powered alternative!

This Totaled “Not Wheels” by MSCHF is an unexpected addition to the Hot Wheels universe

Par : Gaurav Sood
30 août 2024 à 13:20

Ever since its inception, Hot Wheels changed the dynamics of toy car models that were cooler and performed better than any other toy back in the late 1960s. Even after more than six decades, the iconic brand has the same enthusiasm for a set of Hot Wheels.

Some early models are now prized collectibles since they were created only in a handful of units. While every car lover has had his/her collection of Hot Wheels cars ranging from hot rods to supercars, the brand has thought out of the box this time to create a Not Wheels sedan.

Designer: MSCHF and Mattel Creations

The idea comes from the creative pool of MSCHF, a streetwear brand known for its off-the-wall designs. It’s their first-ever Hot Wheels collectible, and going by the packing labels and text, it seems this is certainly not their last. The beat-up car inside the clear packaging carries the label “HW Normal Cars” on the front, hinting there could be more coming. This heavily used car look is inspired by the 1990s Japanese import scenario when worn-out cars were the norm.

This “Not Wheels” car has a missing wheel and two Real Riders classic tires, ensuring it doesn’t roll like any other Hot Wheels. To complete the busted look, the car has a yellow spare and a rusted hub. The rugged look continues onto the body with dents, incomplete repairs and dents scarring the exterior. MSCHF wasn’t going to stop there and went all in with a cracked windshield, hanging seat belts and dirty-fogged rear window with “WASH ME” finger inscribed to complete the theme.

There are cheap fix-ups dotting the bodywork including, mismatched doors and taped-on taillights. If you look closely, the cracked windshield has a yellow parking ticket hooked onto the wipers. Definitely, this car has been ditched for a long as the headlights are all fogged up. The $30 totaled vehicle scale model is all set to be released for buying on August 30 and this one will sell like hotcakes for its exclusivity. You could sport it in your post-apocalyptic diorama, industrial-themed desk or even shoot a short movie with a couple of these Hot Wheels mixed along with the more exotic ones.

Handmade EVE Odyssey motorcycle aces its predecessor with stellar performance and sniper bullet-like profile

Bandit9 Motors’ EVE Odyssey motorcycle stunned us last year with a bullet-shaped spacecraft-grade aluminum body straight out of the Star Wars universe. The Vietnam-based company incepted by Daryl Villanueva is in a league of its own with futuristic builds that have an element of industrial influence.

The latest from their workshop is the improved version of the EVE Odyssey. Daryl and his team have facelifted the bullet-shaped bike into one that is more like a 9mm sniper rifle bullet. To top it all, the new version is bigger, lighter, faster and more durable than its predecessor. The EVE Odyssey is a huge team effort, and I could not be more proud of the people who made it possible. My only wish is that they’re equally proud of the work they’ve done. In my opinion, this is the best piece we’ve ever done, and I think it’s just the beginning,’ Daryl says.

Designer: Bandit Motors

Now the fuel tank of the peculiar motorbike is fused to the high-strength 7075 aluminum frame with a flowing single-sided swingarm originating from the body. For a minimalistic form, the exhaust system is hidden in the body frame. The new EVE Odyssey model gets a hand-brushed steel emblem crafted out of a single billet. Better stability in the new version comes with the monoshock upgrade. That makes this mean machine more agile while taking corners. The front fork which is a part of the suspension system is something out of a modern art sculpture. Not only is it eye candy but also functional since bumps and rough roads are much more comfortable to navigate now.

EVE Odyssey 2.0 version is powered by a 125cc engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission, hurling it to a top speed of 68 mph. Bandit promises a range of 156 mpg which is impressive but driving conditions will play a part in tweaking this value. Just like the predecessor, the new model has a lot of custom parts that make up the final build. It’s got aluminum grips, levers and switches, steel clip-on handlebar, wide rear-view mirrors and LED headlights. For ease of use, the conventional gas cap is replaced with a magnetic one.

This time around the design team has ditched the traditional dials with digital speedometer for showing all the vital riding information. The control switches get a swanky upgrade as they seem more like a bracelet. Truly handmade, the motorcycle takes 3 months to craft from scratch to the brilliant final form. EVE Odyssey is now available to order with shipping worldwide.

Whether the mouse stops scrolling, the sensor begins to glitch, or the switch records twice when you just want a single click; it’s time for you to replace your mouse. You know why, because most mice we have connected to our PCs or laptops are unrepairable, and there’s a high chance, yours is a plasticky one you cannot mend.

Over prolonged usage or when a mouse accidentally drops, most of the time, it fails in ways you wish you could open it up and replace the faulty part, since it looks like new on the outside still. Unfortunately, only a handful (if I’m not wrong) of mice have the option to replace a part or two. In such a scenario, the waruru: easy-to-fix mouse is a class apart. It is the Framework of a mouse!

Designer: Jiu Lee

Today, if you want a laptop that you can upgrade and repair effortlessly, it’s the Framework laptop. These repair-friendly laptops have become an exciting option on the market with more people preferring them for their repairability and eco-consciousness. Replaceable parts can save a lot of hardware from reaching landfills and leading to toxic electronic and plastic waste.

Built for high performance, the easy-to-upgrade and customize, waruru comes with replaceable key components. The scroll wheel, the wheel encoder, the click switch are all replaceable and repairable. This is facilitated with a single screw on the top. Unscrew it and you and access the faulty part and instantly repair, upgrade, or replace.

Now with the waruru, Framework laptops have a partner that is repairable and eco-friendly like them. These mice are easy to open, have replaceable parts, and disassemble – at the end of life – so that recyclable parts can be separated from the electronics, making the recycling process easier.

When stuck in a dangerous situation miles away from habitation, search and rescue is the only hope for a stranded person. A lot of effort has been put into developing such vehicles that have to be capable on multiple fronts. All-terrain capabilities and emergency gear are on top of this list. Add semi-autonomous capabilities to the equation and you’ve got a vehicle that lets the driver concentrate on providing first aid when every second counts.

Meet Deep Orange 15, a semi-autonomous search and rescue vehicle developed by Clemson University’s Department of Automotive Engineering students. The all-terrain vehicle promises enhanced safety in the most precarious scenarios. Its capabilities don’t stop on semi-autonomous features, as the vehicle can drive back to the designated emergency center with two injured people on board while the driver can help in the rescue efforts in a natural disaster-struck location.

The robust rescue vehicle designed for the US Army’s Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) comes with an advanced LiDAR and camera setup to map the terrain to create a safe route to help the rescue workers. Deep Orange 15 has a hybrid-powered drivetrain with a diesel engine mounted on the chassis and four electric motors on the wheels. The diesel engine simultaneously runs the generator to feed the large battery pack. To traverse any terrain, the four-wheeler has an active suspension system.

Safety during travel on not-so-smooth terrain creates a challenge for the transport of injured, hence, the vehicle comes with an advanced litter-loading mechanism. The rotating passenger seat further facilitates the safe transit of severely injured people. This project is a combined effort of the two organizations along with big brand names like Brembo, Fox Racing and North American Rescue. To improve the vehicle’s dynamics and function, modeling and simulation runs have also been performed for its use in military operations. In fact, the students working on the project have done an exceptional job, designing the vehicle in just 18 months keeping in mind the requirements of the elite forces of the US Army.

Nintendo Game Boy is one of the bestselling consoles of all time, owing to its competitive pricing and gamer-friendly features. Right from the original version to the consequent variants released in the 90s, the handheld gaming console has been popular across generations and inspired similar designs all these years.

While Nintendo has no plans to release a Game Boy version in the future, a concept design puts the handheld right in the realms of ultra-advanced gaming accessories. The gaming handheld visualized here solves your gaming needs indoors and outdoors sans any restrictions on whether you prefer playing it on the native small screen or the bigger one.

Designer: LFD Official

That’s possible with an integrated mini projector that can be taken right off the back of the handheld and positioned to project on any room wall, outdoor tent, or anything with a plain surface. This detachable projector module seamlessly switches the gameplay output, so you can enjoy games on the big canvas anytime. The transparent aesthetics of the handheld are inspired by the clear transparent version dubbed Game Boy Bros. released in 1995.

The display is much bigger, using most of the screen real estate with minimal bezels. Right below it are the gamepad controls that are much bigger and more tactile for improved gameplay and ergonomics. The tiny hardware of the gadget is enclosed in a transparent polycarbonate housing protected by the gorilla glass layer. To make this modern Nintendo handheld stand out, the designer envisions it in cool color options – Flame Scarlet, Greenery, Ultra Violet and Blue Grotto.

The back panel of the handheld holds the detachable projector in place and adjacent is the speaker to enjoy multimedia content and favorite games on the go. The UI of the gadget is heavily influenced by the Game Boy cartridge and the pixelated Gill Sans font evokes the neo-retro feel.

This watercraft turns into a submersible as the seating compartment lowers down underwater

The Titan submersible implosion was a grim reminder of the serious dangers involved in deep-sea expeditions and explorations for eco-tourism. While some might argue that it is way better than exploration on the sea surface, there’s got to be a better and safer way to experience the wonders of the underwater world in person.

François-Alexandre Bertrand has a solution in the form of Platypus Craft prototype, a semi-submersible vessel for safe and feasible underwater exploration. This is in line with breaking the notion that water adventure activities and environmental responsibility are hard to coexist. Clear from the naming convention, the zero-emission craft is inspired by the amphibious Playptus mammal.

Designer: Playptus Craft and Evoy

The five-seater watercraft is developed in partnership with Evoy who have developed the high-output electric motors for the vessel. Platypus Craft has some cool trickery up its sleeve for underwater exploration. The seating platform can be lowered down completely to submerge the riders safely for a whole new experience. It comes with an array of safety equipment like retractable air hoses connected to an onboard compressor.

This dual configuration has many benefits, including multi-functionality and fewer chances of harming the marine ecosystem. One can use it for riding the waters for scenic trips or more intense underwater explorations within the safety norms.

The watercraft gets twin Evoy Outboard Breeze 120+ electric motors mated to a 63KW twin battery pack. This makes the vessel having a catamaran hull design, reach a top speed of 25 knots and have a cruising speed of 15 knots when riding the surface. When submerged underwater, Platypus Craft prototype’s speed is reduced to a comfortable 3 to 5 knots for unobstructed views of the marine life. In the submerged mode, the craft can cover an impressive distance of 30 to 80 nautical miles.

Initially, the maker is going to release the Platypus Yacht Edition in 2025, fueling a new era of submersible explorations sans the inherent dangers of deep-sea explorations. The watercraft will be the first ever commercially available submersible to feature Evoy’s electric motor system that comes with zero-emission promise and also eliminates the typical fuel slicks and bilge water problems with non-electric versions.

Breville’s new Oracle brews barista-quality cold and hot coffee at “Jet” speeds with precision

I’m a coffee buff but have a limited sense of good coffee. A simple machine keeps me satisfied but a nice brew at a café really tells the difference. I wouldn’t say I’m going to translate into someone keen on brewing specialty coffee at home anytime soon. But if you’ve been yearning for barista-level precision and control over your cup of coffee, you can settle for the new Breville Oracle Jet, which is now available in the US.

A keen coffee machine that can produce hot or cold-press espresso, most of it automatically, the Oracle Jet is Australia-based Breville’s first-of-its-kind option on the market. From how it appears, it’s an impressive coffee machine with a brushed stainless steel finish (available in a range of exclusive colors) featuring a touchscreen display that would let you control it in most cases. Interesting however is the fact that the intuitive machine automatically does the grinding, dosing, and tamping to eliminate the human intervention, yet enhancing the brew quality in return.

Designer: Breville

What really distinguishes Breville’s new entrant in the world of specialty brewing at home concept is its ability to brew perfect cold espresso drinks. In fact, it’s the first in the Breville’s portfolio that makes cold brew but then the price of the machines really makes me skip a beat. Not that I was going to make an effort to secure finances for purchase, but $2000 for the coffee machine will have many like me deterred and setting in return for a regular drip coffee maker.

This doesn’t at all mean that the Oracle Jet does not have its mouth where the money is. Of course, the price is nothing for a good shot of cold brew espresso that this machine has been designed and manufactured to achieve with little to no effort. A definitely lift up of your stature from a barista visitor to a full-blown coffee specialist at home!

As an auto cold-brew espresso machine, it requires a bit of doing to install it and get the beans and water calibrated. Thereafter the process is pretty automatic and straight-forward. The touchscreen panel onboard is where all the controls are for you to set the grind size, switch between hot and cold brew or add your choice of milk to the coffee. The controls on the screen are generated with the tech-based ‘barista guidance,” and the machine helps execute the moves to brew you a perfect temperature espresso every time of the day.

This compact off-road trailer with staircase to the rooftop tent can park in any Aussie garage

It’s an adventurous world full of competition to the brim. When every camping trailer manufacturer is distinguishing itself from the pack by expanding the living space for the better of the occupants; HardKorr, a company from Australia, known for its Xplorer trailer, is trimming the height of the famous model so that its little brother can fit comfortably within a standard size garage of a typical Aussie home.

Fascinatingly, that’s not just the brightest aspect of the Xplorer 2.0, happily called the ‘Shorty.’ Shorty is designed – with all the features and skills of the OG – to allow you to live comfortably in the outdoors for weeks and months with your family, without compromising the comfort and living space, and return home to stow the trailer conveniently in your city apartment garage until it’s required the next time.

Designer: Hardkorr

Of course, Xplorer 2.0 is one of the few garage-compatible trailers down under. It is also one of the very few with an integrated staircase to the rooftop tent. This feature makes it a rooftop camper trailer that’s easily accessible by kids and pets you may have along on your journey. And since the Shorty is not all too small, it gives you enough living space under the awnings and a sizable kitchen area for your culinary escapades on-the-go.

To that accord, the Xplorer ‘Shorty’ 2.0 has a slide-out outdoor kitchen complete with a two-burner stove, a large prep area, and a removable sink. Just behind is the slide-out 96-l fridge with another pull-out tray just underneath it, which creates an additional prep space. On the opposite side of the trailer are two separate hatches for carrying batteries and gear, and above that is a drop-down privacy tent that can be used when taking a shower. The shower here is attached to the kitchen sink and draws water from the instant water heater.

Comprising a lightweight aluminum body, the new Xplorer 2.0 is conveniently towable with any offroad-capable vehicle. It can set up in under five minutes and pack back in almost the same time. On the roof, you have a spacious queen-sized tent, and the trailer itself is loaded with plenty of storage sections, combining to give you upward of 3,450-l of storage space. While the integrated staircase makes it easy for everyone to get up into the bed, the robust off-road suspension, galvanized chassis, and all-terrain tires allow the Xplorer camper trailer to easily handle tough terrains and off-road journeys you want to make by yourself or with your family. These can be extended adventures in the Shorty that comes with a 170W solar panel and 2,000W inverter taking care of the power needs. Retailing for about $24,000 (AUD 35,990), the camper trailer is worth the contention more so as it may be available in the US as well.
