This Tiny Home Is Redefining Micro-Living With Its Spacious Apartment-Like Layout

15 septembre 2024 à 23:30

Named the Ventura Park Model Tiny Home, and designed by Mint Tiny House Company, this dwelling features a spacious apartment-like layout that can comfortably sleep six people. The home allows you to enjoy the flexibility of a tiny home, without having to downsize way too much. It is the best of both worlds. The house is based on a quad-axle trailer and features a length of 40 feet. It also has an increased width of 10 feet, unlike the typical tiny home standard of 8.5 feet – this allows for a more spacious layout. But, this also entails that the Ventura Park Model will need a permit for towing on a public road.

Designer: Mint Tiny House Company

You can enter the home via double glass doors, which lead you into the living room. The interior is quite spacious and light-filled, on account of a generous amount of glazing. It has a floor space of 400 sq ft, and it includes seating, a wall-mounted TV, an electric fireplace, and shelving. The kitchen is located close by, and it is U-shaped. A fridge/freezer, oven, microwave, three burner propane-powered stove, and a farmhouse-style sink are included in the kitchen. The kitchen also incorporates a breakfast bar with stool seating and storage space. The ground floor also houses a bathroom equipped with a shower, sink, and flushing toilet.

The tiny home contains three bedrooms. The master bedroom is placed on the ground floor, and you can enter it from the living room through a barn-style sliding door. Since the master bedroom is on the ground floor, it has plenty of headroom, allowing residents to stand straight. The room accommodates a double bed, a wardrobe, storage space, and a separate door that leads outdoors.

The remaining bedrooms are located upstairs. You can access one via a staircase, while a removable wooden ladder leads to the other. Both these rooms are typical loft-style bedrooms seen in most tiny homes. They have low ceilings, a double bed, and shelving. The rooms could also fit two single beds for kids, or be utilized as storage rooms if needed. The Ventura Park Model Tiny Home is currently priced at around US$134,000.

This Motorized Tiny Home Can Power Through Different Kinds Of Challenging Terrains

9 septembre 2024 à 01:45

Through the years tiny homes have been innovating like crazy, always surprising us with their unique and clever designs. Another tiny home that recently struck my fancy is the Rubishack by Canada’s Rubitracks. The Rubishack is a one-of-a-kind home with its own engine and off-road tracks, which ensure that it can handle even the most challenging terrains. The Rubishack a motor home amped with a heavily modified truck base and a first-generation Cummins engine which has covered only about 150,000 miles.

Designer: Rubitracks

The tiny home is anchored by four bolt-on tracks which have been constructed by Rubitracks. It is a four-wheel-drive, and can successfully handle rivers, snow, the beach, and muddy terrains. The “home” section of Rubishack is made primarily from wood, and equipped with generous glazing as well as a planter at the front. It measures 16 feet in length and 7 feet in width. The interior is well-designed, and both the driver and passenger seats have been sourced from a 1970s motorhome. Both the seats can swivel at 360 degrees. The double bed has been positioned in front of the driving seat, while the seating area and table have been placed behind it.

The Rubishack tiny home was designed by Rubitracks as a promotional attempt, instead of an actual tiny house that serves as a motor home as well. So, unfortunately, the build isn’t going to be available anytime soon in the market. However, it is an innovative creation that truly pushes the boundaries of what a tiny home can be. The Rubishack can powerfully work through landscapes with different terrains, which is truly a feat in itself.

Top 5 Minimalist Wooden Furniture Designs To Enhance Your Home Decor

8 septembre 2024 à 23:30

Wood is a wonderful and preferred material choice for furniture designers since like forever. And no wonder! There’s something about wood that instantly adds a sense of zen and calm to any living space it is placed into. It puts your mind at ease while managing to radiate a feeling of warmth and tranquility. It’s a minimal material that holds a strong personality without any additional frills and tassels. I truly believe a well-crafted piece of wooden furniture can add a magical touch to even the simplest of living spaces. Minimal, clean, and almost always soothing, beautifully designed wooden furniture helps add the ultimate finishing touch to a room. We’ve curated a collection of wholesome wooden furniture designs for you – from a dice-inspired wooden furniture design to a desk that transforms from a work of art into a functional table.

1. Flow Wall Desk

Dubbed the Flow Wall Desk, this one-of-a-kind furniture design is functional and decorative. The desk has a basic design philosophy, making it a great fit for corporate and home offices with space constraints. The desk is also pretty eco-friendly since it has been constructed from wood.

Why is it noteworthy?

Amped with a flexible and unique form, the Flow Wall Desk can be stored and folded away when not used. When folded away, the desk seems like a visually intriguing piece of wall art. When you unfold it, it resembles a spring caterpillar which functions as a desk for you to read, work, and write on.

What we like

  • Multifunctional and eco-friendly furniture design
  • Equipped with a convenient flatpack form

What we dislike

  • Since you need to fold and unfold the desk, you don’t have a constant setup

2. KURVE Furniture

Called the KURVE furniture collection, this minimal wooden furniture design utilizes only curves in its form. The curves are wrapped around a space, forming a hollow nook for your stuff. You can use the hollow space to place your belongings – ranging from books to accessories to shoes as well.

Why is it noteworthy?

The KURVE chair is throne-like and has no legs. It is equipped with a curved backless box for its bottom half. The furniture design is interesting since the arms, backrest, and seat are built from a single sheet of layered plywood. The sheet is bent on the back and sides, building the chair.

What we like

  • Merges well with different living spaces
  • You can place it near your entryway to easily store keys and shoes

What we dislike

  • The aesthetics are pretty simple, and may not be preferred by everyone

3. Flat Stool

Designed by Joao Teixeria, this flat-packed furniture design is made using no extra parts, no screws, and no glue even! It still serves as a multifunctional furniture design with a unique and appealing aesthetic, unlike those mass-produced flat-packed furniture products we tend to come across in the market.

Why is it noteworthy?

What makes the stool pretty unique is how the sides can curve and bend, even though it is flat-packed. Named the Flat Stool, it uses a pretty unconventional design and even uses kerf bending on the bent areas to build a gentle curve, making it seem like the piece was shipped like that from the start.

What we like

  • The kerfs and ribs serve as visual accents making the stool look pretty interesting

What we dislike

  • It is a conceptual design, so we don’t know how well it will translate into a tangible product

4. Dice

Dubbed Dice, this innovative furniture piece is designed by Zurich-based Kosmos Architects. The design can be used as a stool, coffee table, leg bench, and lamp. You can turn the piece in different ways, to use it as any of the furniture variants. The piece’s multifunctionality is where the dice reference comes in.

Why is it noteworthy?

Inspired by the various numbers and dots on a dice, the Dice furniture has a four-in-one piece which makes it quite similar to a dice, although it looks nothing like one. The Dice is portable and can be moved from one place to another with ease.

What we like

  • 3D-printed through KUKA robotics technology
  • Looks like a wooden sculpture when not being used

What we dislike

  • The aesthetics are pretty unique and eccentric, and may not be preferred by everyone

5. Altitude Shelf

Named the Altitude Shelf, this minimal and clean shelving design by Evan Clabots is inspired by lines and the simple form of traditional Japanese woodworking. It serves as a nifty storage solution that is functional and influenced by Japanese aesthetics. It is eco-friendly as well since it has a wooden ethos.

Why is it noteworthy?

Drawing inspiration from Japanese furniture design, the Altitude Shelf also has hints of traditional Danish furniture. Amped by minimal lines, and the lack of a back panel, the design is quite open and free-flowing.

What we like

  • Serves as a modular design inspired by Japanese and Danish furniture

What we dislike

  • Bulky space-consuming design, not well-suited for homes with space constraints

Top 5 Exciting Automotive Designs of August 2024: Electric Motorcycles, Flying Cars, and More

8 septembre 2024 à 11:40

We love a few menacing automotive designs—whether they’re powerful cars or sleek and fast e-scooters. In August, we saw an avalanche of fast, super cool, and one-of-a-kind automotive designs at Yanko Design. From killer speed to dashing good looks to impenetrable safety standards, every vehicle we featured at YD broke some design barrier for us, and hopefully, they did the same for you. Hence, we’ve curated a collection of automotive designs that we feel were the best of the lot. From NASCAR’s first electric racecar to a unique electric motor with a pedal drive—these automotive designs are a pleasure to see!

1. Twike 5

Designed by automaker TWIKE GmbH, the Twike 5 is a pedal hybrid vehicle intended for those who want a sustainable mode of transportation. It is a three-wheel trike, equipped with one wheel in the front and two at the back. This innovative vehicle combines an electric motor with a pedal drive. It is a two-seat trike, weighing around 600 kilograms, and it can reach speeds of up to 190 kilometers per hour. It can travel up to 500 kilometers on a single charge.

2. Pure x McLaren Special Edition E-Scooter

Designed by Pure Electric, this is an official McLaren edition e-scooter. This e-scooter is designed to change urban transport for good. It is a foldable commuter with electric motor power and an improved range. It features the signature papaya color and a deep black finish. It offers 710 watts of peak power for enhanced acceleration, as well as better performance on hills. It can cover a range of 31 miles on a full charge, which is great if you’re someone who commutes the city in one go.

 3. Xpeng AeroHT eVTOL Flying Car

Called the Xpeng AeroHT eVTOL Flying Car, this eVTOL flying car is designed and developed by the AeroHT electric aviation wing of the Chinese auto company XPeng. Unlike most traditional ideas found on the market, this modular flying car has a unique and different approach, featuring a two-part design—one part car and the other an eVTOL, allowing it to seamlessly switch between land and aerial modes.

4. NASCAR Electric Racecar Prototype

NASCAR debuted their first prototype electric racecar at the Chicago Street Race. The car’s limit was tested at the Martinsville Speedway in Virginia, and it is just two-tenths away from the average time of a V8-powered NASCAR racer. The electric racer is amped with twice the acceleration and commendable braking ability, but its weight causes limitations on the corners, as it cannot go faster. Currently, the vehicle is being tested as much as possible without damaging any of the hardware.

5. The MP4/4 Special Edition E-scooter

Pure Electric designed the MP4/4 Special Edition e-scooter, inspired by the form of the McLaren team’s Formula 1 car driven by Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. The e-scooter is amped with speedy performance and showcases the famous color-blocked red and white livery. It delivers a stable, sturdy, and controlled e-ride experience, powered by a 710W peak power output and a 31 mph range. It is an excellent ride for hill climbing and acceleration, as it doesn’t consume too much battery power.

Minimal Home In Tokyo Features Wooden Louvers To Deliver Privacy & An Organic Ambiance To Its Residents

8 septembre 2024 à 01:45

Japanese architect Keiji Ashizawa designed the love concrete home the ‘House in Aoyama’. The house features louvers inspired by the louvers on the townhouses in Kyoto. These louvres were incorporated to create a sense of privacy in the home. As its name suggests, the house is located in the central Aoyama area and is built for a family with a child and two dogs. Since the home is located at a busy intersection, it was constructed to offer maximum privacy to the residents, and hence concrete was selected as the material of choice

“We had to choose a material resilient to acoustic disruption and vibration for the urban context,” said studio founder Keiji Ashizawa “Considering the need for a basement, rooftop, and balcony, we picked concrete as the best fit.”

Designer: Keiji Ashizawa

The entrance of the home is covered by tall wooden louvers, which shade it and offer privacy. The home is shielded from the neighbors and other passerby. A tropical hardwood was used to construct the louvers. Itauba wood was selected, to create a sleek, slender, and stylish look. Itauba is also known for its water resistance, and strength, making it a good fit for the louvers.

“Louvres create subtle seclusion within the urban setting with a soft ambiance, often seen in traditional townhouses in Kyoto,” Ashizawa said. “They serve both as a privacy screen and light filter.”

As you enter the home, you notice the exposed concrete structure, which is amped with a bunch of different finishes – ribbed ceilings, and washed and blasted walls. The concrete beautifully contrasts with the insulated exterior. The various finishes in the home create an interesting palette, with the ribbed textures delivering acoustic enhancement in the living room. The first and third floors include the bedroom, while the living and dining rooms are placed on the second floor. The different stories are connected via a winding wooden staircase, which perfectly pairs up with the wooden furniture to create an organic and warm ambience.

The home also includes space for the clients’ art collection, perfectly placed against neutral walls. It also features a skylight to offer access to natural light throughout the day, softly illuminating the home.

This All-Black Tiny Home Perfectly Accommodates A Family Of Four With A Space-Saving Interior Layout

3 septembre 2024 à 22:30

Designed by Ridgeline Tiny Homes, the Hartley tiny house is bigger than the firm’s Sun Valley tiny home, featuring a length of 27.6 ft. The home is pretty compact, but the extra space has allowed the designer to create a space-saving layout that perfectly accommodates a family of four. Based on a double-axle trailer, the Hartley home features a black metal cladding, amped with generous glazing, allowing sunlight to stream in throughout the day. The home is powered by a standard RV-style hookup.

Designer: Ridgeline Tiny Homes

You can enter the home via double glass doors, wherein you are welcomed by a 290 sq ft floorspace. The interior is finished in plywood, with the entrance leading you to the kitchen. The kitchen is well-stocked, and well-designed, equipped with an oven with a four-burner-propane-powered stove, sink, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, custom cabinetry, and a pull-out pantry. The kitchen also includes a two-person breakfast bar. The kitchen and the living room are connected. The living room includes a sofa, a small deck, as well as a storage-integrated staircase.

The opposite end of the home includes the bathroom. The bathroom is pretty spacious and roomy for a tiny home, and it is equipped with a shower, flushing toilet, vanity sink, and loads of custom cabinetry. The Hartley includes two bedrooms – both are loft-style spaces that you typically find in tiny homes. The bedrooms have low ceilings and double beds. The main bedroom can be reached through the storage-integrated staircase, while the secondary bedroom can be accessed via a removable ladder. The double bed in the second bedroom can be switched to two single beds if needed.

Currently, we are unaware of the price of the Hartley tiny home. We do know that there are plenty of options available for the Hartley including color, materials, and cabinetry choices.

3 septembre 2024 à 19:15

Architects Oualalou + Choi and stadium experts Populous teamed up to design a truly mindblowing new stadium that will resemble a massive tent. Dubbed the Grand Stade Hassan II, the extraordinary stadium will be built near Casablanca, Morocco, and will be deemed the largest stadium in the world! The Grand Stade Hassan II is being constructed since Morocco will be share hosting the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup with Portugal and Spain. The stadium is inspired by a traditional Moroccan gathering called Moussem.

Designer: Oualalou + Choi and Populous

The stadium will be able to hold 115,000 people, proudly making it the largest capacity soccer stadium in the world. It will be larger than the capacity of the current largest sports stadium in the US, which can hold around 107,601 sports fans. The stadium will feature a tent-like form, amped by an aluminum lattice exterior which will offer shade to the visitors, and facilitate ventilation. The landscaping will be highly focused upon, and it will include a ring of 32 stairways functioning as gateways with greenery on the raised platforms. “The Grand Stade Hassan II is deeply rooted in Moroccan culture, with its traditions and contemporary expressions,” said Tarik Oualalou, Design Principal and founding partner at Oualalou + Choi and Lead Architect for the project. “It is rooted in ancient and primordial figures: the Moussem, the tent, and the garden, as well as the topography and landscapes of Morocco. It’s a generous space, open to the world and respectful to the nature it protects. The Grand Stade Hassan II de Casablanca is the embodiment of the great tradition of Moroccan hospitality.”

The construction prep has started on a 100-hectare site in El Mansouria, near Casablanca. We are unsure when the stadium will be completed, but it should be done by 2030.

This Wasp-Inspired 3D-Printer Is Making Homes To Tackle The Housing Deficit Problem In Colombia

3 septembre 2024 à 17:20

Dubbed the CRANE WASP, this 3D printer is also known as “the infinity 3D printer”. The impressive printer utilizes locally sourced clay, mud, or cement to 3D-print affordable homes. The printer even uses agricultural waste as aggregate to build homes. Currently, this system is being employed to construct some much-needed housing in Colombia.

Designer: United Nations Development Program (UNDP)

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) recently purchased a Crane WASP to build affordable and effective homes in Colombia. The homes are built using local soil and resources. The printer is priced at around US$180,000, which is no small amount. Currently, more than a quarter of Columbian households are suffering from a lack of decent housing – an estimated 3.7 million. Two of three families who do have homes aren’t in great condition either, since the dwellings are subpar and need structural improvements. By utilizing locally sourced soil, the UN won’t need to bring in expensive materials from other lands. This tactic is bringing down costs significantly.

The Crane WASP ( World’s Advanced Saving Project) draws inspiration from the Mason Wasp – a little yet hard-working insect that uses mud to make its own nests. The UNDP intends to install the printers in challenging terrains, where it is difficult to set up expensive and conventional equipment. This equipment would have limited access as well. The Crane WASP is complemented by the local soil, and both work excellently to build homes for the impoverished or homeless.

This WWII Bunker In Hamburg Was Converted Into Hotel & Restaurant Space With A Rooftop Park

2 septembre 2024 à 23:30

Named the St. Pauli Bunker, this mammoth building was constructed during WWII to protect the Hamburg residents from the Allied bombing raids. The imposing structure was once a representation of the Nazi ideology, but it has now been transformed into a unique-looking green hotel and restaurant space, and a big park and “mountain path”.

Designer: Matzen Immobilien KG

The St. Pauli Bunker was originally called the Flakturm IV and was constructed by forced laborers in 1942. The building had an official capacity of 18,000 people, but it protected and offered shelter to almost 25,0000 Hamburg residents. When the war ended, the Allies wanted to blow up the building but didn’t because it was unsafe on account of the bunker’s thick walls and central location. In the postwar years, the building was used as an art and cultural hub, and a music venue and events center. In addition, a massive extension has now been included which weighs as much as 60 AirBus A380s and is offered support by 16  steel pillars. This extension consists of five floors and elevates the bunker’s height from 35 m to 58 m above ground. The new extension includes a hotel, restaurant, cafe, and social spaces.

“The public recreational space combines a number of ecological, cultural, and historical aspects,” said the press release. “This is because, in addition to the spectacular urban garden, there are spaces for district culture, exhibition areas, urban gardening facilities, accommodation for scholarship holders and artists, a modern three-field hall for school sports and cultural events, and a hotel. In addition, the historic site has for the first time a memorial and information center: in the former control center and at other locations in the existing building, an initiative commemorating the victims of the Nazi regime and World War II.”

The interior includes almost 23,000 trees and plants, forming a lovely rooftop park that measures around 1 hectare. The park can be entered free-of-charge for visitors, although to reach it you need to climb 335 steps or walk on a 560-m “mountain path” around the exterior, which allows visitors to enjoy the views of the city.

The World’s New Tallest Timber Skyscraper With 55 Floors Is Set To Be Constructed In The US

29 août 2024 à 23:30

Designed by Micheal Green Architecture (MGA) has unveiled plans for an aspiring and ambitious construction in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The project is intended to be the world’s tallest timber skyscraper once it is completed! The founder of MGA is a trailblazing pioneer of modern timber construction and has worked fervently to popular large wooden structures in Northern America. This unnamed skyscraper is their next upcoming project, and it is sure to break some boundaries in the arena of timber-based architecture.

Designer: Micheal Green Architecture (MGA)

Currently, we are unaware of the exact height of the structure, but the firm has proclaimed that it will include around 55 floors. Presently, the world’s tallest timber building is also in Milwaukee, but it only features 25 floors, so the upcoming skyscraper will be much taller. The building will include ample greenery and multiple terrace areas.

“The proposed development represents a significant investment of over US$700 million, encompassing multiple mixed-use buildings,” said MGA. “The project, planned in several phases, could include up to 750 residential units, 190,000 square feet [roughly 17,600 sq m] of office space, 40,000 square feet [3,700 sq m] of retail space, 300 hotel rooms, parking spaces, and vibrant public plazas and walkways. MGA, renowned for its leadership in mass timber architecture, will spearhead the design efforts, supported by an experienced team including HGA, Gehl People, C.D. Smith, and Thornton Tomasetti.”

We aren’t sure if the skyscraper will include any concrete in its construction, but considering its height, we do believe some concrete would be included. People may have concerns that a wooden skyscraper could easily catch fire like a tinderbox, but unlike traditional lumber, modern mass timber is a pretty strong and sturdy wooden beam that can withstand fire even better than steel, on account of the way it chars, doesn’t fully burn.

The Levitae House In Mexico Has An Unusual Form That Seems To Cantilever Above The Mountain

19 août 2024 à 23:30

Designed by Alejandro Vazquez, the Levitae House is perched on a mountain, and creates the impression of levitation through its large and imposing volumes. The home is made using contemporary materials, and it exhibits an impressive level of complexity and detailing. The house seems to float in the air, while simultaneously tapering into slim columns that seem to harmoniously integrate with the natural topography.

Designer: Alejandro Vazquez

The Levitae House is located on the southern slope of La Paz, Mexico, and it faces the north, which allows sunlight to stream in throughout the day while ensuring it doesn’t get too hot either. The design of the home ensures there is constant access to the lovely views of the city, while certain spaces have been oriented to ensure more panoramic views. As you look at the external structure of the home, you will be quite impressed, as it showcases a certain uniqueness and complexity of character that we do not easily witness in modern architecture.

The architectural style of the home is called Neo Deconstructivist, and it is highlighted by an innovative structural system, and a detailed morphology. The Levitae House is built for a couple with cats, and it is equipped with a garden, music studio, barbecue area, parking space for two vehicles, and green spaces both inside and outside the home. It is also integrated with double and triple-height spaces, which offer an air of openness and spaciousness to the home.

The Levitae House occupies around 340 square meters, and building the home was no easy task. Local engineers in La Paz didn’t have much experience with inclined columns and massive cantilevers, and the standard labor construction practices also deepened the issues. Hence, the designers needed to be thoroughly present during the construction process to ensure the proper steps and care were taken. The complex nature of the materials and the structural components of the project needed proper attention.

This Is The Tiniest Tiny Home We’ve Seen With A Clever Space-Saving Layout & Loads Of Storage

18 août 2024 à 23:30

Designed by France’s Baluchon, the Nano Suisse is really one of the tiniest tiny homes we’ve ever seen. It may be super small, but it is still functional and practical enough to live in. It measures 3.5 m in length, and features a clever space-saving layout that can accommodate two people, and also house a home office. Typical Baluchon homes are twice the size of Nano Suisse, so it is quite small, although it is described as the “big sister” to Baluchon’s Nano home. However, the size difference isn’t much at all, since the Nano Suisse features an increased length of 7.8 inches. However, Suisse’s interior is pretty different and has plenty of storage options.

Designer: Baluchon

Founded on a double-axle trailer, the Nano Suisse features red cedar cladding amped with aluminum accenting. As you enter the home, you are welcomed by a home office area, which also serves as a dining area. It contains seating for two people, a big porthole-style window, and plenty of storage. The storage is pretty commendable when you consider the size of the tiny house. The space also includes a sofa bed, which can be used in the main living space and bedroom. This section includes more storage as well.

Although, you must take into consideration that the kitchen is quite small. It is basic – equipped with a fridge, sink and some storage. It also contains a portable stove, but besides that, it doesnt have any other amenities. This could be considered bare for some people, so the home is only suitable for short stays, or for people who are okay with a very simple life.

The bathroom is the only separate room in the tiny home, and you can access it via a sliding door from the kitchen. The bathroom is integrated with a shower and toilet, but there isn’t any sink, since there isn’t much space, to be honest. A small storage loft has been placed above the bathroom.
