JCB Hydromax sets a new hydrogen land speed record at 406.320 mph

A pair of hydrogen-powered engines developed for construction machinery has just been pushed into territory normally reserved for purpose-built speed machines. JCB’s Hydromax has reached an astonishing 406.320 mph (653.6 km/h) at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats, becoming the fastest hydrogen-powered vehicle of any kind and setting a new world land speed record for a hydrogen internal-combustion car.

The 32-foot-long streamliner is powered by two production-based JCB hydrogen combustion engines, each tuned to produce 800 horsepower for a combined 1,600 bhp. Rather than using hydrogen in a fuel cell to generate electricity, Hydromax burns hydrogen directly in its internal-combustion engines. The engines are manufactured at JCB’s factory in Foston, Derbyshire, and are based on the same production engines powering JCB machines in the UK.

Its record-setting run was completed under FIA rules, requiring two passes in opposite directions within an hour. Driven by Wing Commander Andy Green OBE, Hydromax recorded 400.623 mph on its first run and 412.135 mph on the return, producing the official average of 406.320 mph. The result comfortably surpassed the previous FIA-officiated hydrogen internal-combustion record of 185.5 mph, set by the BMW H2R in 2004. It also moved beyond the 303 mph hydrogen fuel-cell record, making Hydromax the fastest hydrogen-powered vehicle in history. The record remains subject to formal FIA ratification.

According to project lead, JCB Engineering Director Ryan Ballard, “This record belongs to the engineering team which took a hydrogen digger engine and made it the fastest of its kind on earth. This has been an amazing challenge from the outset, with it being set in February last year. We came here fully prepared, and the car delivered.”

The achievement follows an earlier milestone at the 2026 Bonneville Speed Week, where Hydromax averaged 368.347 mph over two runs to establish an SCTA record in the Blown Gas Streamliner class. Its first run reached 367.141 mph, followed by 369.554 mph on the return. That result surpassed the previous 348.342 mph class benchmark, while giving JCB an important test of the car before its FIA attempt.

Much of the car’s engineering focuses on making extreme speed controllable. Hydromax drives all four wheels through twin transmissions and clutches, while its body was shaped around aerodynamic efficiency and stability. JCB says the suspension, traction control, aerodynamics and camera placement were all stress- and simulation-tested before the attempt. Prodrive handled the car build, Ricardo worked on engine tuning and Xtrac supplied the transmission expertise.

The record also carries a strong sense of continuity for JCB. Exactly 20 years after Andy Green drove the JCB Dieselmax to a 350.092 mph diesel land speed record at Bonneville, he has returned to the same salt flats to establish an even faster mark using hydrogen. The Hydromax project was conceived in 2025 as a demonstration of JCB’s hydrogen combustion technology, turning engines developed for working machines into a record-breaking powertrain.

Casio upgrades the classic F-91W watch with smart functions, and it’s already sold out in Japan

Without a doubt, the Casio F-91W is a legendary timepiece that is still available to buy for $20. While the digital watch has retained its nostalgic charm all these years, it is indeed a little left behind when it comes to smart functionality. Casio is set to change that now with the F-B100W timepiece, which adapts the modern functions expected in a smart timekeeper. The classic 1980s digital watch in the rectangular silhouette, upgraded with the goodness of step counting – I’ll take that any day!

On the outside, this Casio timepiece looks like the trusted F-91W, but inside it has more to offer, making it a sweet deal. For now, the watch is available in Japan for ¥8,800 (around $55), and it’s not surprising it has already been sold out, at least for now. That’s almost double the price tag of the original, which is still up for $22, but you’ll also have to factor in the generational leap in smart features this new model touts.

Most of the F-B100W’s functions are fairly straightforward, and the specifications are also very close to the original, measuring 41.9 × 38.1 × 8.8 mm and weighing 26 grams. The timepiece retains features including an amber LED backlight with adjustable glow, water resistance, an hourly time signal, and five daily alarm options. For improved comfort during long hours, the bio-based plastic strap now has improved ventilation slits. Major changes come in the form of a watch battery (as opposed to a rechargeable cell), which lasts for almost two years.

What’s making this Casio timepiece a big buzz already is the inclusion of Bluetooth, which automatically syncs time or toggles the alarms or dual time display. In the mix is the phone finder feature, which can be a really useful addition without all the unwanted nuances. What I’m most excited about is the addition of the step counter and lap split time function, which can be directly synced to your phone with the companion app. You can set goals, record up to 200 laps, and monitor the progress on the watch screen as well. For times when you get too engrossed in work, the F-B100W also sends an inactivity alert via a beep and on-screen prompt. Of course, that is an optional feature that can be turned off as well.

It doesn’t have any other smartwatch features like a heart rate monitor, sleep diagnosis, or even BP monitoring, but that’s the point. The retro-modern Casio watch has all the timekeeping functions, and the most essential smart features without making the wearer too finicky about the vitals. F-B100W comes in three color variants: 1AJF, 1BJF, and 3AJF, which have a black case with a positive LCD and retro blue, red, and yellow dial accents, and all black with a negative display and gray text, respectively.

The new Timex Retroware Digital Watch Just Rekindled My Childhood Memory

When I was growing up in the 1990s, there was a Timex I would kill for. If you remember the Timex Men’s Ironman Triathlon, you’d know what I mean. Not only was it the first to introduce the Indiglo backlight, but it was also the dominant sports watch, slayed with its rugged resin case. I owned one briefly before my brother, who had more muscle than me back then, coerced it out of my wrist to his advantage one day.

I had, in the last three decades, almost forgotten about it, but the moment the new Timex Retroware Digital showed up on my screen this morning, some memories were definitely rekindled. Thriving on the old digital sports watch charm of the ‘90s, the Retroware Digital is nowhere close to the Ironman for me, but it has its own retro vibe, which will find takers. Me… maybe, maybe not!

Taking nothing away from the new Timex sports watch, let me walk you through what’s changed in approach for the company and how this one, with retro looks, has a way forward to chime with Gen Z. It starts right at the bold and oversized display featuring huge, curved numerals that occupy the larger part of the dial. And this display we are talking about is not small by any means. It’s set in a 46 mm lightweight resin case. The size gives the watch a strong wrist presence, while the curved numerals remain arguably easy to read.

The Retroware Digital watch has a large case, but it’s not very thick, even for not-so-big wrists. It measures only 11 mm high and the 46 mm case ensures the distance from lug-to-lug is a large 50 mm. So, you definitely have a great Timex you’re dealing with. That said, it’s packed with features you’d appreciate whether you’re an ‘80s kid or a young athlete setting pace on a 400-meter track.

The watch is equipped with a chronograph and has a timer to make sure you’re never late for practice. The retro charm on the dial is rekindled by the Indiglo backlight. For the unaware, INDIGLO (how it’s stylized) was developed by Timex in 1992 for the, yes, Ironman Triathlon. It is an electroluminescent blue-green night light onboard that allows a wearer to tell the time in low light conditions with the push of a button.

The large display of the Timex Retroware perpetually ticks with the power of a quartz digital movement inside, which is driven by a CR2025 battery under the hood. The watch is 50-meter water-resistant, so you can definitely take it for a light swim in the pool or to shower later. Don’t go deep diving with it or try and set the stopwatch underwater. If you’re interested, Timex offers the Retroware Digital watch in two colors, blue and green-gray, with matching resin straps for $149.

Storyteller’s new GXV Wild is built for luxury off-grid camping without compromise

Storyteller Overland added Global Expedition Vehicles (GXV) under its umbrella in 2022. The tale for the two adventure camper and overland rig manufacturers, respectively, has been around about on the same lines. Continuing in a combined form factor now, the new 2027 GXV Wild is introduced to upscale the idea of overland living from Storyteller’s lens.

The adventure truck is based on the Ram 3500 single-cab chassis. That leaves the Wild catering to only a couple on the road. It can, we will learn later how, accommodate up to four people at camp. But what’s actually fascinating about the truck, beyond the overlanding compatibility and off-grid preparedness, is how the interior is designed to permit a congenial harmony between the inside and outside.

Built on the Ram chassis, which draws power from a 6.4L HEMI V8 engine delivering 375 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, you already have a capable machine. To keep it performing at its best, Storyteller has kept it lightweight but tweaked it to add an AEV suspension kit with a 3-in lift and forged-aluminum wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. The camper part is made using laminated insulated fiberglass walls and floor. The roof uses insulated panels, and windows feature dual panes (again for better insulation), ensuring year-round operability.

With the modifications to the chassis, the rig – measuring 23 feet long and 11.3 feet high – has a payload capacity of 1,000 lbs and a 14,000-lb GVWR. The Stroyteller GXV Wild can also tow up to 10,000 lb. if you have additional cargo to cargo, in the FlipOut Deck. Some of the truck campers this size we have seen compromise with bathroom space, but that’s the difference with the Wild. It has a dedicated bathroom, next to the alcove. It features a cassette toilet, sink, and a shower that gets water from the 189 L fresh tank and also has a 76 L gray water tank onboard.

Opposite the bathroom, you have the kitchen with a portable induction cooker, a stainless steel sink, and a flip-up counter space extension. 116-L Vitrifrigo fridge/freezer, microwave and other appliances are aligned next to the convertible four-seat dinette with leather seating. When you want a little more space, the FlipOut Deck drops down and opens up your camp. On the far side is the main bed in the cabover loft. Together with the convertible dinette bed, you can have a sleeping space for four people in the Wild.

GXV Wild maintains off-grid convenience with the 400W of solar panels (expandable up to 800W), 12-kWh electrical system, and a 4,500W inverter. For all-season convenience, the insulated interior is furnished with a 13.5K-BTU rooftop air conditioner and a 14K-BTU hydronic heating system. Storyteller Overland is planning to sell the 2027 GXV Wild starting at $299,898. What do you think?

This One-Wheel robot could patrol your property while you stay away

Most security robots are designed like small autonomous cars, with a bulky body and enough room for all the fancy tech. 1ROLLO, however, adapts a radically different approach. Developed by Estonian startup Rollo Robotics, this autonomous security robot balances on a single large wheel, turning an unusual piece of robotics into a practical patrol machine for large properties.

The 1ROLLO is built around a vertically oriented spinning flywheel housed inside its main wheel. Gyroscopic forces help the bot remain upright while moving, while the internal mechanism allows it to lean and change direction. The result is a remarkably narrow robot that can move independently through spaces that might be less accessible to larger wheeled security platforms.

Despite its unconventional appearance, the 1ROLLO surveillance robot is designed for serious security work. Its autonomous navigation system combines 360-degree computer vision with RTK GNSS positioning, allowing the robot to follow mapped patrol routes while navigating around obstacles. It can detect movement and objects, record video, recognize license plates, and monitor for potentially dangerous gases, including carbon monoxide. The idea is to shift routine security patrols from people to machines without completely removing human oversight. This is estimated to save up to 80 percent of the cost that would otherwise be incurred using manual methods.

When the robot detects something unusual, it can alert a remote operator over 4G, 5G, or Wi-Fi. The operator can then access a live video feed, speak to people near the robot using its microphone and speaker, or dispatch a human guard if the situation requires intervention. A cloud-based management platform is intended to make the system scalable, allowing one operator to monitor multiple robots simultaneously. That could make the 1ROLLO particularly useful for expansive sites where continuously patrolling every corner would require significant manpower.

The robot measures approximately 60 x 60 x 140 centimeters and weighs around 35 kilograms according to the company’s specifications, while more recent reporting has described a 45-kilogram version with a higher top speed of up to 30 km/h. The company has also stated a battery runtime of up to eight hours, after which the robot can autonomously return to a charging station. Its IP65-rated enclosure protects against dust and water jets, supporting outdoor operation.

Rollo Robotics sees potential applications across airports, data centers, industrial facilities, corporate campuses, manufacturing sites, hospitals, hotels, and critical infrastructure. The robot could also find a role in environments such as mining operations, construction sites, oil and gas facilities, and gated communities, where autonomous monitoring could complement existing security teams.

Rollo Robotics plans to offer the surveillance robot through a Robotics-as-a-Service model. Customers would pay for access to the system while receiving maintenance, software updates, support, and future hardware upgrades as part of the service. The 1ROLLO is still evolving, with the company working to improve its performance in challenging weather and busy environments. Commercial availability is expected in 2027, but its single-wheel architecture already makes it an intriguing alternative to the increasingly familiar fleet of four-wheeled security robots.

Explorer camping trailer is designed with comfort, convenience, and adventure in mind

We all have different adventure needs. If your lifestyle requires you to go beyond the paved roads and into the wild, you need a capable setup that’s designed with comfort and convenience to go where you want it to. A new entrant among the likes of Adventure Pro Mini 2.0 or the Polydrops P21X is the Fortress Explorer camping trailer that is built for genuine off-grid comfort.

The explorer gains off-grid capabilities without having to compromise on its comfort or the capability at any point. New Zealand-based Fortress Trailers says their trailers are “designed for Kiwi tradies who need a setup that works as hard as they do.” But this one is different; it’s designed to be tough and secure, always configurable to be more than a utility trailer: an adventure trailer!

Over the years, Fortress has been developing very secure and rugged utility trailers. To be the mobile workstation you have always wanted, for the first time, the company has developed an outdoor trailer. The Explorer is built using aluminum panels and finished in scratch-resistant paint, as opposed to a steel body that other Fortress trailers are built with. The camping trailer, however, retains the hot-dipped galvanized steel chassis.

Measuring about 13.5 feet long, the Explorer makes for 6.9-foot headroom inside, and it rides comfortably on 15-inch wheels, ready to go just about anywhere. A great combination of convenience, adventure, and comfort, the Fortress Explorer camping trailer features a spacious rooftop tent to increase the sleeping capacity and offers a fully equipped slide-out kitchen with a 90L fridge, bench space, and storage for cooking essentials.

Packed with all the amenities that you need to be in the great outdoors, whether for a short weekend or for a slightly longer stay. It comes with a 270-degree awning to extend the living space beyond the interior, comprising a spacious queen-size memory foam bed. To take care of your living comfort like at home – away from home and far away from the grid – the Explorer features a 120W solar charging setup paired with a 100Ah battery, and a 1000W inverter.

The trailer with a 100L water tank features a DC-DC charger for powering 12V lighting and USB ports via the tow vehicle. Priced at NZ $42,990 (approximately $25,000), the trailer has a huge slide-out drawer for easy organization of camping gear and storage under stairs leading to the rooftop tent. The fuel is stored in a 9kg gas bottle and a pair of jerry cans. For that price, you also get, along with the Explorer, a shower tent for privacy and convenience.

Fortress Trailers, we learn, added the Explorer to its tradesman utility trailer lineup a few months ago. It is available now for the adventurers in New Zealand, but we have yet to hear whether the Explorer camping trailer will make it to North America or not.

Anbernic RG 55G1 is a Switch Lite inspired handheld powered by the Snapdragon SoC

Anbernic has slowly clawed its way into the Android handheld market with stellar offerings that have excellent build, quality, a nostalgic design language, and powerful guts that can play AAA games without breaking a sweat. The shell options and the freedom to choose from a variety of form factors, right from tiny pocket devices to Nintendo-inspired designs, make their handheld gaming consoles special.

Now the Guangdong-based gaming accessories maker has just revealed the RG 55G1 handheld, which has more of the Nintendo-style layout. There were rumors in the air that the company was working on a couple of handhelds based on the discontinued Nintendo devices, but for now, the maker has announced just one of them. This is the Anbernic RG 55G1 handheld, which gives off the Nintendo Switch Lite vibes. If I compare it to the existing models, the new handheld does look pretty similar to the Retroid Pocket 6.

While on the superficial level, the handheld is inspired by the Switch Lite, on a closer look, it has some key differences. The device has “double shot” face buttons teased in the video trailer. While I don’t exactly have an idea what that means, it could be the buttons being made out of dual layers of molded plastic – one for the button functionality and the other for text function. Glass on the handheld is gently curved at the edge, and Anbernic calls it the 2.5D glass design. Predictably, the handheld gets the Hall-Effect joysticks and triggers, along with the USB-C port and SD card slot to complete the functionality set.

The horizontal orientation handheld is speculated to have a 5.5-inch display and could most likely be powered by the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 SoC. If the latter is true, this will be the first time an Anbernic handheld will have a Qualcomm processor, as opposed to the MediaTek or RockChip processors in previous versions. These two speculations stem from the fact that the naming convention usually gives away the device’s specifications, as with the previously released versions. If the handheld has this hardware, playing PlayStation 2 games should be a breeze on this retro-futuristic device.

For now, there is no revelation about the other hardware specs, nor is there any hint of the release date or the pricing. The only thing conclusive is the color options that the RG 55G1 will be released in – Indigo, Retro Gray, and Black. This is the second handheld announcement this week, along with the AYANEO Pocket Micro 2 powered by a Snapdragon chip, on which we’ll have more in the coming days.

LUV1 modular bike replaces your car for daily errands with 120L storage and swappable batteries

Most electric motorcycles still behave like motorcycles first and utility machines second. They chase performance numbers, oversized displays, or aggressive styling while ignoring a simple reality: most urban riders just want something practical enough to replace short car trips. The ANY LUV1 approaches the problem differently. Instead of behaving like a sportbike with batteries attached, it feels more like a compact urban tool designed around everyday life.

Created by Belgian startup ANY Mobility, LUV1 is sandwiched somewhere between an electric scooter, cargo bike, and lightweight motorcycle. The company calls it a “Life Utility Vehicle,” and the name makes sense once you look beyond the styling. Nearly every part of the vehicle revolves around usability, whether that means carrying groceries, office gear, camera equipment, or handling the kind of short-distance errands people usually default to using a car for.

That practicality starts with its packaging. The integrated cargo compartment offers 120 liters of storage, which is significantly more useful than the tiny under-seat compartments found on most scooters. It is large enough to carry shopping bags, delivery equipment, or a backpack and helmet without forcing riders to strap everything externally. Front and rear cargo racks expand that flexibility further, while configurable dividers allow owners to organize storage depending on the task at hand.

The modular approach is where the concept becomes genuinely interesting. Instead of locking owners into one fixed setup, the LUV1 can be customized with interchangeable body panels, seating layouts, storage accessories, and optional weather protection. One configuration can prioritize cargo hauling during the week while another leans toward casual commuting on weekends. It follows the same logic that made modular furniture and adaptable workspaces appealing: people increasingly want products that evolve with their routines rather than forcing routines around the product.

Visually, the bike avoids the exaggerated “future mobility” look many startups lean on. The clean bodywork and restrained surfacing come from Granstudio, the Italian design firm led by former Pininfarina design director Lowie Vermeersch. That design pedigree shows in the proportions and detailing. Even functional components like the storage compartments and structural frame feel integrated into the design rather than added as an afterthought.

Underneath the bodywork sits a modular aluminum chassis produced using high-pressure die-casting, a manufacturing method more commonly associated with larger automotive companies. The setup helps reduce complexity while providing the platform with enough flexibility to support various accessories and future configurations. Power comes from an 11 kW rear hub motor paired with dual swappable lithium-ion battery packs totaling 6.5 kWh. ANY Mobility claims a range of 68 to 87 miles, depending on use, while the top speed is rated at 62 mph, making the bike suitable for both dense city streets and suburban commuting. Charging the batteries through a standard 220V outlet reportedly takes under four hours.

The LUV1 also keeps accessibility in mind. It weighs around 352 pounds and features a relatively approachable 30.9-inch seat height, making low-speed maneuvering less intimidating for newer riders and shorter commuters alike. According to reports, the company expects pricing to fall between €7,000 and €10,000 (approximately $8,150 – $11,600) depending on configuration, and reservations have already opened ahead of production plans.

What makes the ANY LUV1 stand out is not raw performance or futuristic gimmicks, but how realistically it understands modern urban mobility. Most people are not looking for an electric motorcycle to replace weekend entertainment. They are looking for something convenient enough to replace unnecessary car usage, and the LUV1 feels designed precisely around that idea.

This pocket-sized cyberdesk built inside Altoids Tin is a portable workstation for geeks

What do you do with your Altoids tins after devouring the mints? Maybe for keeping your coins, hand it over to your mom for storing the sewing accessories, for keeping handy a first aid, or perhaps keep the watercolor paint for your little niece. DIYer “Exercising Ingenuity,” however, has a very unique use for the aluminium container.

The inventive YouTuber wanted to build a fully functional Cyberdesk inside of the Altoids tin. Sounds bizarre? Surely it is, given the size of the thing. In his video, he asked himself, “That looks like a tiny computer?” It was clear from the outset that the assembly would require the utmost level of detail and sourcing all the hardware inside the tiny housing. While it might not be the most powerful machine you can own, it surely is ultra-portable and quite nice nonetheless.

Designer: Exercising Ingenuity

Normally, Cyberdesks are built inside ammo cans, rugged Pelican cases, or anything that has a boxy form factor. The machines piqued in popularity during the 1980s after the science fiction novel Neuromancer. Altoid tins have all these attributes, just the smaller size makes them a very odd proposition in the Cyberdesk world. That said, he set out anyway on putting together the hardware. For the CPU, he used the Raspberry Pi Zero W he had lying around, and a 2-inch LCD from another unfinished project. The power comes from a 750mAh lithium-ion polymer battery.

The real challenge was to find the tiny mechanical keyboard and fit it inside the small space. According to him, this was the most enjoyable part of the project, even though the video suggests it was a difficult one. It required learning how to construct the diode matrix for configuring the input, along with the assembling and soldering methodology of each of the keys. The final step here involved painting the keys with a white ink pen. Once this bit was taken care of, the DIY headed into the moderate level difficulty (at least for us). The next step was to create a 3D-printed frame to keep all the components inside the tin in place.

Wiring had to be kept to a minimum, and soldering of other components had to be done efficiently, as space was a premium. As a last step to make more room for components like the UPS HAT board and the display, the original hinge was extended with another Altoids tin hinge for a makeshift, slightly bigger replacement. Once all the hardware components were secured properly inside the tin, it was just a matter of running the system using the software. To make the thing look and feel like a vintage desktop computer, the DIYer painted the front panel beige.

A provided awning is one of the major highlights of the Dashaway ECT series. It is part of the trailer and delivers an additional outer space that can be used for a portable toilet. Of course, it is optional, but with awning rolled up on the front of the trailer when riding, you have the option of expanding the living space. It can unfurl easily and attach to the roof and two side poles to create a sizable space. Besides the awning, the trailer is otherwise similar to the other options on the market, measuring 12.5 feet long and about 5.3 feet wide, but it differentiates itself in the convenience campers can have inside.

When in drive mode, the Dashaway ECTS one berth and the ECT 2 two berth pack down to a height of 3.8 feet. At the camp, both models can pop up to the height of 6 feet. Setting up the trailers is as easy as it can get. No additional tools or any specific training is necessary. The process takes a few minutes. First, using a motorized mover the trailer can be positioned using a remote control, without even the tow vehicle. When in place, the stabilizer legs are lowered and the roof can be lifted up using a gas strut-assisted crank and the fabric side-walled camp is ready to live.

However, before you start living, you can access the camper via single rear entry and layout the furniture and furnishing inside (which folds down when the camper is packed for the road). The interior has the kitchen setup at the entrance complete with an induction hob, kettle, air fryer, and microwave, and then is the seating lounge facing outward, toward the camp entry. The seat also accommodates a 12L fridge underneath. The lounge – depending on the berth configuration you have picked – is either one seat or two. the seats flatten down into a single or double bed at night. The sides are provided with large windows covered with mesh, which light up the interior.

Wheelhome provides the ECT series with ample storage cabinets and compartments under the seat(s). The trailer features a 3-kWh lithium battery, 200-watt rooftop solar panel connected to a 3,000 W inverter. Dashaway ECTS is available for a starting price of £19,750 (roughly $26,000), and the ECT2 is priced at £26,225 (about $35,000).

James Bond-inspired Scubacraft SC3 turns your underwater adventure fantasy into reality

What you actually see here is a one-off submersible that is equally capable above the surface as it is underwater. For anyone who remembers the futuristic watercraft showcased in the James Bond film Spectre, there is now a rare opportunity to own one of the strangest and most ambitious vehicles ever built. Called the Scubacraft SC3, the experimental vessel was developed during the late 2000s as a functioning prototype that blurred the line between speedboat and personal submarine.

Unlike many fictional gadgets seen in Bond movies, the SC3 was not a movie prop designed solely for visual appeal. It was engineered as a real-world concept capable of operating both on the water’s surface and beneath it. The project reportedly attracted interest from the UK Special Boat Service and even DARPA because of its unconventional capabilities and military-style versatility before eventually making its way into the Bond universe. In Spectre, the matte-black machine appeared in Q’s workshop alongside the iconic Aston Martin DB10, instantly becoming one of the more memorable background vehicles in the film.

Now heading to auction through Bonhams, the SC3 remains the only prototype ever produced, making it less of a practical recreational craft and more of a collectible piece of engineering history. Its rarity is amplified by the fact that no production version ever followed, despite the concept demonstrating genuine functionality both above and below the waterline.

On the surface, the SC3 behaves much like a high-performance jet boat. It is powered by a Kawasaki 1,498cc inline four-cylinder engine connected to a jet-drive propulsion system, allowing it to skim across the water at impressive speeds. The real transformation begins once the craft enters deeper waters. With the underwater mode activated, electrically powered thrusters take over while hydrodynamic control surfaces guide the vessel beneath the surface at speeds of around three knots.

Unlike traditional submarines, however, the SC3 does not feature a sealed or pressurized cabin. Occupants are exposed directly to the surrounding water and must wear full diving gear before submersion. This open-water diving approach significantly reduces complexity and weight while creating an experience closer to underwater flight than conventional submarine travel. The setup accommodates three people, including the driver and two passengers, all seated in exposed racing-style seats integrated into the craft’s lightweight body.

Visually, the SC3 still looks every bit like a futuristic Bond vehicle. The original composite plastic bodywork remains intact, paired with carbon-fiber construction elements and upholstered leather racing seats that reinforce its cinematic personality. Its aggressive low-slung silhouette, combined with stealth-inspired matte-black paintwork, gives it an appearance that still feels ahead of its time more than a decade after it was built.

Vehicles attempting to combine marine and underwater transportation are exceptionally rare because of the engineering compromises involved. The SC3 stands out precisely because it became a fully operational prototype rather than a concept sketch or film mock-up. That achievement alone makes it one of the most unusual experimental watercraft ever created and an undeniably fascinating piece of Bond-related automotive history.

AI-powered earbuds with built-in camera expand your capabilities in the real world

Headphones and earbuds have, over the last couple of years, become staples of this fast-paced world for good reason. The little audio gear essentials can do a multitude of tasks with just the push of a tactile button or pinch gesture. They can trigger smart assistant support for a smarter you, and if this concept were to be imagined, they can give you a pair of smart eyes, too.

The idea of a pair of earbuds with integrated cameras is not new, as Emil Lukas imagined, and now another concept reinforces the merit in having a pair of lenses on earbuds. Dubbed Lightwear, the earbuds look something straight out of a sci-fi flick, but underneath, they are a pair of smart assistant earphones that enhance your environmental perception in real time.

Touted as the world’s first AI-powered earphones, Lightwear comes with a set of HD camera lenses to expand the sense perception as a vision module to interpret the surroundings and deliver the desired result. One can detail them via voice command about any information required in real time, and the buds respond with a detailed set of instructions or navigation guidance. Having gesture control support, the buds can control the connected home devices remotely using just gesture commands. All the data fed into the smart data system is end-to-end encrypted and stored locally. For enhanced privacy and protection, the sensitive data is automatically cleared on a scheduled cycle.

Compared to Emil’s version, these earbuds have a very downplayed camera presence, which I prefer. They look and feel just like any normal earbud, but have a function that makes them stand out from most pairs of earbuds that have the predictable features. Unlike other AI-powered earbuds, these stand true to their name as they come with the added visual apparatus to put forth better results. The use of AI functions is not limited to the earbuds, since the charging case does the same. This removes the use-case scenario to just when the earbuds are being worn. Loaded with highly sensitive microphones, the AI features can be triggered anytime the user wants. Privacy is also taken care of, as the user can opt to activate the fingerprint unlock module to prevent any unauthorized use.

These have an over-the-ear design, reminiscent of the way IEMs sit flush on the ears. The battery resides in those lobes, and although the designers don’t specifically talk about the usage time, these should last longer than TWS earbuds. Nor is there a specific word about the sound quality, ANC levels, or the app features. But then it’s just a concept centred on the form factor and usability.

Pictures of iPhone Fold appear online, just before Apple’s supposed foldable hits engineering challenges

Apple’s first foldable phone, the Apple’s first foldable phone, iPhone Fold (if that’s how it will be called) is one of the most anticipated smartphones in recent memory. While Apple remains tight-lipped about anything concerning the awaited device, rumors, leaks, and concepts have flooded our memories over the years with what the iPhone Fold is and what it will be like.

2026 is suggestively the magical year when Apple is expected to launch the foldable iPhone. It has been an unperturbed timeline in almost all the reports we have seen. In the same loop – but without a timeline – a recognized Apple leaker, Majin Bu has shown “actual design of the iPhone Fold” in the latest leaked pictures.

It’s “more beautiful than the previous one,” Bu notes in his update on X, stating that he believes this is “the final design of the future iPhone Fold.” How much context there is in the claim, only time will tell, but Bu has had some correct Apple-related predictions in the past, which suggests he could have some substance to back his claim.

From the leaked pictures, one can visually notice that the camera bump on the back of the foldable device is significantly smaller than that seen in previously rumored designs. The images appear more than renders and supposedly of a prototype, showing the iPhone in a book-style foldable form factor. Appearing to open horizontally to reveal a tablet-like display on the inside.

If the 2026 timeline is to go by – it’s Apple’s golden jubilee year as well – the iPhone Fold should ship alongside the iPhone 18 Pro slated for release in fall this year. But according to a new report from Nikkei Asia, the launch could be delayed. Nikkei reports that Apple has encountered a major setback in the engineering test phase of the foldable iPhone. There have been previously report concerning the foldable display’s crease, but this time, the report notes that the Cupertino giant is facing “more complex engineering challenges than anticipated.” If the issues persist, they could, “in a worst-case scenario,” delay the iPhone Fold launch schedule by some months. It could even mean a postponement until 2027.

Earlier this year, it was rumored that Apple had entered into the manufacturing phase of its first foldable device at Foxconn. New revelations, however, suggest Apple is “notifying” its component suppliers about the possibility of a delay in the “component production schedule for the new foldable iPhone.”

Despite the reports and unauthorized leaks, one thing is definite now. Foldable iPhone – by whatever moniker it comes – is clearly on the horizon. Apple will soon have a competitor for the Samsung Fold and other foldable smartphones on the market. If it is anything like the iPhones that rocked the smartphone world in the late 2000s, the iPhone Fold could repeat that in the late 2020s.

Tank Pad Ultra is a rugged tablet that doubles as a short throw projector

8849tech introduced the Tank Pad last year, leaving the tech world in awe. With the ability to double as a projector, the rugged tablet leapt beyond the already highlighted multitasking capabilities of a normal tablet. Now the beast is back in an improved version to polish out the kinks of the OG version, adding more capabilities for users who demand that little extra.

The Tank Pad Ultra has the same promise of all-weather performance, reliability, and durability as its predecessor. If you’re hoping to buy a sleek, lightweight tablet, this one, weighing 1,345 grams and measuring 170.3×268.3×23.6 mm, is not for you. The device is targeted towards professionals and power users who are constantly exposed to challenging environments. Slated to launch two days from now, the rugged tablet is designed for a niche audience with a specific set of needs.

Specifications are the key here as the tab boasts a 10.95-inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display, which is better than the previous version. Powering the gut is a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 processor, which is a tad slower than the Tank Pad, which has a Dimensity 8300 processor. To support multiple open apps, the 16GB RAM and storage capacity of 512GB (expandable via a microSD card) make things easy for users. Coming onto the integrated DLP projector, it has a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. 260 lumens of brightness and auto-focus support. These numbers are technically better than the Tank Pad, which has a 854 x 480 pixel resolution and 100 lumens maximum brightness.

The battery also gets a bump up to 23,400 mAh from the previous 21,000 mAh in the original model. However, both have support for 66W charging, which should be enough to juice up the device for short bursts or power usage in case charging options are limited out in the wild. The Tank Pad Ultra comes with a USB 2.0 Type-C port and the ability to reverse charge your other gadgets. For people who are all-in for a wired multimedia experience, the 3.5mm audio jack is a welcome addition. Since the tablet is going to be used out in unknown environments, it comes loaded with a gyroscope, accelerometer, compass, ambient light sensor, and distance sensor. It also comes with an independent camping light built in to explore in the dark hours.

Of course, a mobile device needs to have shooting capabilities, so the Tank Pad Ultra has a 50MP primary camera (with Sony IMX766 sensor) for daylight shooting and a 64MP night vision camera (OV64B) for more awareness of the environment in the dark hours. In the mix is a 32MP front-facing camera (IMX616 sensor), which is potent enough to take video calls in high quality. 8849 has included dual nano SIM card slots with support for 5G NR and 4G LTE networks, which is essential in inhospitable conditions. For a more laid-back connectivity when you arrive back home, the tab has WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC support.

There’s no word yet on the pricing of this rugged tablet, but going by the price of the previous model, it should be around $550. That information should present itself in a couple of days when the tablet is finally launched.

100-Meter A100 concept yacht redefines luxury sailing with massive interior volume

Modern sailing superyachts often struggle to balance two competing priorities: the elegance and efficiency of wind-powered travel and the expansive living spaces typically associated with large motor yachts. The A100 sailing yacht concept approaches this challenge with a bold rethink of traditional yacht architecture. Developed through a collaboration between Van Geest Design and Rob Doyle Design, the 100-meter vessel proposes a layout that delivers the interior volume of a motor yacht while maintaining the identity and performance of a sailing superyacht.

At the core of the concept is a design strategy that maximizes usable space. Traditional sailing yachts require wide side decks for crew movement and sail handling, which limits interior width. The A100 concept reduces the width of these side decks, allowing the main deck to stretch nearly the full beam of the yacht. This architectural shift creates significantly larger interior spaces than typically found on sailing yachts of comparable size.

The main deck is designed as the primary social and living area. Here, the owner’s suite occupies a substantial portion of the deck, offering a level of space rarely seen on sailing yachts. Adjacent to the suite is a central lounge and formal dining area intended for gatherings and entertaining. An additional space can function as a library or a private cinema, adding flexibility to the interior layout. Large sections of glass surround these living areas, filling the interior with natural light and offering uninterrupted views of the ocean.

Below deck, the yacht accommodates guest cabins along with a variety of leisure-focused facilities. This level also houses a dedicated diving room and storage for water toys such as jet skis and e-foils, allowing guests to transition between onboard relaxation and water activities easily. The layout is designed to maintain a strong visual connection with the surrounding seascape while ensuring privacy and comfort for those on board.

Outdoor areas play an equally important role in this larger-than-life superyacht design. The upper deck includes the navigation and steering stations, along with flexible lounge spaces for relaxation or wellness activities. At the stern, a large beach club spans the full width of the yacht, creating a welcoming space for guests to gather close to the water. Toward the bow, storage areas accommodate tenders and recreational equipment without disrupting the clean lines of the deck.

The sailing system is based on two free-standing DynaRig masts, a modern configuration used on some of the world’s largest sailing yachts. The system employs curved yards that support multiple sails, all of which can be deployed and adjusted electronically at the push of a button. The rotating masts simplify sail handling while maintaining efficient propulsion for a vessel of this scale.

Beyond its layout and sailing system, the A100 concept also reflects growing interest in more sustainable superyacht designs. By relying heavily on wind propulsion supported by advanced onboard energy systems, the concept explores ways to reduce reliance on conventional engine power. If brought to life, the A100 would stand among the largest sailing yachts ever built!

Ari 458 Pro is Germany’s smallest electric camper and we love its approach

It’s rare to come across a capable mobile living unit built onto the back of a Midsize Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV). The versatile delivery truck platform has the power and capacity to carry a living unit, but it’s not a preferred conversion choice for obvious reasons: It wouldn’t go beyond the convenient city and semi-urban paths.

If you’re someone who is content with camping in designated sites and parks at accessible distances over a weekend; the Ari 458 Pro electric camper van is tailored for your ‘compact, efficient and consistently sustainable’ lifestyle. For those who prefer the rugged wilderness, look over for other options.

Created in Germany by Ari Motors, the Ari 458 Pro doesn’t have the rugged appearance: It’s not meant to be a mean adventure rig. The docile appearance may not be German, but the quality of what you get onboard the motorhome – space-saving design with maximum flexibility for living and traveling – is definitely German, if you know what I mean.

Designed to be Germany’s smallest electric camper van out there, Ari 458 Pro is created keeping in mind adventurers and family campers interested in short vacations. The mini-camper with 30 square feet of living space has a top speed of 70 km/h (44 mph) and about 230 kilometers (143 miles) range. It draws power from a solitary 23.5kWh electric motor, which produces up to 20 horsepower.  A choice of 15kWh battery is also available. It will perhaps reduce the range from 143 to roughly 112 miles.

It comes based on a resilient chassis with an integrated power supply, solar and water systems, while the interior is left out as a blank canvas for the individual to customize to their different requirement. Users can choose to customize the 12.5 feet long, 4.9 feet wide, and 6 feet high (headroom) camper interior from a minimalist solution for sleeping to a fully-equipped home with kitchenette, storage, couch, bed and other necessities.

Created small and compact, the Ari 458 Pro camper van can park conveniently in any parking space, and as the company says, ‘fit narrow roads where larger motorhomes cannot go.’ Its cockpit is interestingly furnished with two seats, a digital display, and a reversing camera to ensure safety. The camper van is currently available in Germany and is priced at €30,381 ($35,100). We do not have a word on the Air 458 Pro’s international availability, but for the interested, the Ari 458 Pro is available in the country in over 30 different variants: food truck, box van, flatbed, tipper, or even a compact garbage truck. These configurations start at €15,790 ($18,200).

GAMEMT E5 MODX handheld’s detachable control module can be connected to Magsafe phones

The craze for handhelds over the last 24 months has driven a surge in portable gaming consoles. We’ve seen it all, right from retro handheld devices to modern consoles that can handle AAA titles without breaking a sweat. GAMEMT has been in the thick of things with a Android handheld released last month and a unique portable console with a dial knob.

Now the Chinese manufacturer has revealed yet another handheld, which is an eye turner for sure. This is the E5 MODX console based on the original E5 released in 2024. The console has a removable modular display that can be connected to your MagSafe-compatible smartphone. It would be safe to say that the handheld draws inspiration from the MCON controller, but we haven’t seen a detachable-display handheld yet. Now, that’s downright cool.

In its native form, the handheld looks and feels just like any other 3:4 display device. However, when you detach the 5.5″ screen (1024 x 768) and connect its controller module magnetically to a mobile phone, it turns into an altogether different beast. The gaming machine comes with the MTK6771 Helio P60 chipset, which is not that highly rated in the tech circles, given its inconsistent performance. Still, it’ll be interesting to see what GAMEMT has managed to achieve with this microchip in terms of hardware and software compatibility in the E5 MODX. The chipset is paired with a 3GB RAM for optimized performance, and 32 GB internal memory is more than enough to store the suite of AA games.

You can expect to emulate PS1 games, or the option to pair with the Dreamcast/N64/PS2 and GameCube emulation. Clearly, you would better explore the retro arcade game library with this one, to be honest. The real magic happens when you connect the device to your flagship smartphone, and the fun of playing AAA games is again real. For now, it is unclear whether the magnetically detachable accessory pairs via Bluetooth or works with the physical connection, and also for low latency.

According to GAMEMT, the first 3D prototype of the E5 Modx is in the works, and there is no word yet on when the handheld will be released. For now, the idea sounds very interesting, given the landscape of handheld consoles that gamers now can choose from.

Evercade Nexus upgrades retro gaming with widescreen play and refreshed modern controls

For retro gaming enthusiasts, few platforms have embraced nostalgia with the same dedication as the Evercade lineup. Developed by Blaze Entertainment, the Evercade ecosystem has steadily carved out a niche by doing something many modern gaming platforms have abandoned, delivering classic games through collectible physical cartridges.

Since the original Evercade gaming handheld console arrived in 2020, the brand has built a reputation for preserving classic titles while presenting them in a curated, officially licensed format. Now the company is taking a more ambitious step forward with the Evercade Nexus, a device designed to modernize the handheld experience without losing the retro soul that defines the platform.

The Nexus is a significant leap in hardware compared to earlier Evercade devices. One of the most noticeable changes is the 5.89-inch IPS screen (with 840×512 resolution) having a wider 16:9 aspect ratio. Previous Evercade systems focused primarily on the classic 4:3 format used by older consoles, but the wider screen allows the Nexus to better support enhanced versions of classic games as well as titles that benefit from a broader viewing area. The larger display also improves overall comfort for handheld play, giving retro games more space while maintaining the pixel clarity enthusiasts expect.

Controls have also received a major update. For the first time in the Evercade lineup, the Nexus includes dual analog sticks alongside the traditional D-pad and face buttons. While retro gaming is often associated with simpler control layouts, the addition of analog sticks expands the handheld’s compatibility with early 3D titles and games that demand more precise movement. The system also introduces TATE mode, allowing the console to be rotated vertically. This feature is particularly useful for classic arcade shooters originally designed for upright cabinets, recreating their intended orientation on a handheld device.

Under the hood, the Evercade Nexus runs on a quad-core processor clocked at around 1.5GHz. Power comes from a 5,000mAh battery that provides roughly five hours of gameplay on a single charge, while modern conveniences such as wireless headphone support bring the device closer to contemporary handheld expectations without sacrificing portability. Another notable addition is EverSync, a wireless multiplayer feature that allows two Nexus systems to connect locally. With EverSync, players can temporarily share a game from a single cartridge so both devices can participate, offering a simple way to enjoy multiplayer titles without requiring multiple copies.

Like every Evercade device, the Nexus remains fully compatible with the platform’s growing library of physical cartridges. The ecosystem now includes more than 700 officially licensed retro games spread across dozens of curated collections from classic publishers and arcade developers. Instead of relying on digital downloads, the Evercade philosophy continues to center on physical ownership and preservation. At launch, the Evercade Nexus will include a special cartridge featuring enhanced versions of classic titles such as Banjo‑Kazooie and Banjo‑Tooie, optimized for the handheld’s widescreen display.

Evercade Nexus handheld is up for preorder at $199.99 with release set for October 2026, which is a long time away if you are already curious. You can also go for the $229.99 Nexus 64 Edition, which boasts an exclusive Hard Shell EVA Case themed with the Evercade Nexus 64 Edition style, screen protectors, and of course, the certificate of authenticity. It is going to be limited to 2,000 units with pre-order availability on Funstock.

Formula Pro simulator with ultra-realistic controls emulates F1 racing fun in your living room

In the world of Formula-1 world championships are won by the slender margin of milliseconds that turn into big margins after every passing lap. The level of engineering in the pinnacle of Motorsports is unparalleled, and the drivers competing for the top podium step do every little thing that gives them a strategic advantage over their rivals.

Personal training is a part of the drill to stay in top shape, but the real deal is to polish the skills and gain telemetry data in the racing sims that very closely mimic the nuances of each track on the season calendar. With the hybrid era, the need for simulating the real track conditions has become even more important, given the metamorphosis this sport is undergoing.  A good simulator plays a vital role in giving the F1 and F2 drivers a fair idea of areas to improve, or develop strategic maneuvers that can be finally implemented on the track.

With over two decades of motorsport experience and trusted by over 250 professional racers, Cool Performance now brings its most advanced F1 sim racer for professionals and motorsports fans. Current F1 drivers who train their driving skills on the Formula Pro Simulator include Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz, Sebastian Vettel and Alex Albon. Founder Oliver Norris has designed the simulator from the ground up with tons of experience in his own Motorsports journey and his brother Lando’s last couple of successful F1 seasons.

The professional-grade simulator has a precision-designed cockpit and race seat to recreate the realism of FPV in the single-seater racer. To simulate the nuances of a Formula -1 car riding the tarmac, the simulator has a high-torque force feedback steering and a Leo Bodnar SimSteering 2 base.
